If your company didn't just grab some Chinese money and move it all to China, yours is one of the few.

The USA has already been gutted and our businessmen pocketed their billions with glee selling out our children!

This "alarm" is about 20 years too late. And Trump continues to sell us out for his family to be able to launder money and sell condos for the last of the value.

No you’re quite wrong I’m afraid. Libertarians are for free trade. Maybe you should know what a group believes before you associate yourself with them. Lol

This is exactly right. Trump wins the election and China submits. There is no Democrat, especially Joe Biden that is going to stand up to China's predatory trade practices, currency manipulation, slave labor market, or their aggressive international moves in the South China Sea, Hong Kong, or Taiwan.

Look. We are all going to take a hit. Wars suck, including trade wars, but sometimes they are the only option. Do we secure the future for our children or roll over and hand the world over to China and Globalists? China IS NOT engaged in Free Market, Open Market, Fair Trade and has not been since..... ever.

Dave... you have some real points here. Do we give up? Or, do we let China suffer and see if we can't cause so much internal strife as their factories shut down and their workers flood their cities looking for food, work, and a living, that they have to start dealing fairly? China's biggest problem is providing for their population and keeping the rural people out of their cities. When they flood in, the strain crushes their infrastructure.

Can you only think past a few years? Have you no idea the deficits we have had with China for decades? Do you think somehow our products are Tariff free in China?

Do you even have even and iota of information on the topic outside of hating Trump?

This silly question proves you don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. Even if China refused to buy any of our goods that does not necessarily mean it would not be beneficial to buy their goods.

Thanks for the real content. Other's on your side could learn from you and this post.

I agree. Trump needs to provide a real plan, the impact, and what we expect to gain. Success needs to be defined, or we can never reach it. If we just goes at this half-baked, then it gets real bad and real negative. He needs to inform so the U.S. Populace and world can get behind us and stop China's predatory practices.

Who is in bigger trouble? The Customer or the Business if the Customer stops engaging the Business? China would be screwed if the U.S. stopped buying from them. Short term it will hurt the U.S. economically and with our cost of living. Long term, it crushes China and we find new suppliers (likely at a higher cost)... or we automate.

If you think we have FREE TRADE with China, then you don't know what FREE TRADE is. You offer virtually nothing to this thread so far. Content would be nice.

You are aware how much our goods are already taxed over there? You are aware how they thumb their noses at all our trade laws and the rampant IP theft that goes completely unpunished. We have no laws that could stop China from buying nearly any US company and using it to undermine security, media, technology, you name it.

Hey I don’t want a trade war, but we’ve been at war with them since Clinton signed normal
Trade relations and helped them enter the WTO. It’s been all downhill for our manufacturing since then since China isn’t really held to any of the agreements they promised Clinton. NAFTA didn’t help either.

Sure we can buy a lot of cheap stuff. We can design amazing goods. But we can’t really MAKE ANYTHING besides weapons of war, that can compete internationally.

Tariffs probably weren’t the right solution. But IGNORING how much we’re taking it up the ass all these years isn’t helping either. At least Trump is forcing people to take notice. Same with illegal Immigration. Everyone kept ignoring it and ignoring it. You can’t keep kicking these cans down the road.

Are you capable of discussing this topic in an informed and mature manner? Cmon man.

Things aren't looking good for the Childlike Emperor in the Orient. Xi won't give him what he wants (so he spits out his binky, throws tantrums and unilaterally imposes new sanctions on China), and his bestest buddy ever, his "Little Rocket Man," whose brutal regime killed Otto Warmbier, is now launching missiles and expressing a willingness to confront the US again.

Oh, won't somebody think of the children!!? Good lord...

You mean, do we let Trump distract us from his failures as a president and as a human being with this whole China thing?

    I say no.

You seem to be a little more on the ball than the other trumpers in this thread.
Anyway, the bottom line is that we can't compete globally without access to the same emerging countries as the rest of the world. Hopefully this is obvious. Full protectionism is also not an option (hopefully obvious as well). So what to do?
I'm not an economist (and neither are you) but it seems the WORST option would be trumps policies. If you want my opinion, I think we need trade agreements with county's that have similar comparative advantage as china. The TPP has it's warts but a better (similar) agreement would solve the china problem quite nicely, no? Of course, we will necessarily run a trade deficit with these new partners. We need people to not be so stupid as to think this is a bad thing.

    Why does china care?

According to anti trump liberals factory jobs are passe

In lib fantasy only knuckle draggers would care where stuff is made

All that matters is that American consumers can buy it cheap

And besides according to libs robots will soon do all the work anyway

Yet china doggedly holds on to the manufacturing bone and refuses to give it up

Whats wrong with the picture that globalists libs are painting?

Never, and we're supposed to pretend that China hasn't been waging economic warfare against our country for years. The only time this trade war is a problem is when WE fight back.

This is an interesting Ted talk:

    https://www.ted.com/talks/augie_pic...ing_jobs_are_disappearing/discussion#t-191782

It is claimed that 87% of manufacturing jobs are lost to automation, not to offshoring. So, addressing the offshoring is important, but only a small piece of the puzzle.

The problem with automation is not that it takes away jobs overall, it may not. The problem is that it takes away LOW SKILLED labor. The question is, what will we do with people who do not have the skill, or be able to develop the skill to work in anything else than manufacturing? Will everybody be able to work a high tech job? I don't think so, at least not without tremendous investments into education.

If democrats were not siding with the enemy the trade war would be easy to win. China and their allies the democrats are working together to beat Trump so trade can go back to "normal" with China.

It needs to go back to "normal". Our companies need to be able to sell their goods on the global market!

Actually, I think it's the opposite. When China needs more workers they bring them in from very inefficient farms and give the farm a tractor. They build whole cities to do this.
