Sounds like the call of the defeated adherent who - when comes across information that conflicts with religious dogma goes into thought avoidance mode. Do you realize that this is a typical reaction of those under the influence of sophisticated mind control ? As Trevor points out in his post - you are talking gibberish. What God ? and which followers of that God ? The founders would beg to differ on your claim that the Bible serving western culture so well. Sure there are some good parts - but there is a while lot of bad as well. Millions of innocent men, women, and children, since the introduction of Christianity, have been burnt, tortured, fined, and imprisoned; yet we have not advanced one inch toward uniformity. What has been the effect of coercion? To make one-half the world fools and the other half hypocrites. To support roguery and error all over the earth. -- Thomas Jefferson, Notes on the State of Virginia, 1781-82 As I understand the Christian religion, it was, and is, a revelation. But how has it happened that millions of fables, tales, legends, have been blended with both Jewish and Christian revelation that have made them the most bloody religion that ever existed?-- John Adams, letter to FA Van der Kamp, December 27, 1816 I get it Todd - you hate the founders, the principles on which this nation was founded and you hate America.
No.. you don't get it.. this is to be a discussion of the Wisdom and the Verses in the Bible... what you want is "Christian Apologetics" , you may start that thread.. it's not my forte, this is, and having Christian haters as part of it not part of the discussion.. it's taking it off topic. Nobody is forcing you to come here, I'm not out in the street in front of your house, so it's really easy to ignore our tho'ts and discussions on .. verses and wisdom in the Bible, otherwise, you are off topic.
Usfan messaged Moi that he did not plan to open a Bible II thread and invited Moi to do so. Here it is. "This is a thread to examine the most controversial, polemical, translated, printed, sold, loved and hated book, in the history of mankind. We can examine its origins, content, influence, themes, and significance in the human condition. . . ." , @usfan. Shall we Bible further? Moi YOU WERE SAYING?
What's the point? You know very little of what you are talking about. The Bible is a mystery to you. Sure there's some wisdom in the Bible, but there's wisdom in other religious books. Ecclesiastes 1:8-11. Ever read Khalil Gibran? Don't need an answer to that.
Yes... I read one of his books over two decades ago..... .Brilliant guy! He sounded like a near death experiencer to me!
Jesus believed in animal sacrifices. If churches believe in Jesus they should have animal sacrifices as well.
I'll bet the Jesus character would love to toss you into the lake of fire. Matthew 8:1-4 (RSVCE) = When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him; 2 and behold, a leper came to him and knelt before him, saying, “Lord, if you will, you can make me clean.” 3 And he stretched out his hand and touched him, saying, “I will; be clean.” And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.[a] 4 And Jesus said to him, “See that you say nothing to any one; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a proof to the people.” Have you forgotten the co-payment required for curing leprosy? Review Leviticus chapter 14 = https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus+14&version=TLB
A lot has happened since Jesus cured that leper. Two very significant things precisely. Two things that occurred 3 days a part.. Two things that show the ignorance of your above statement.
About sacrifice. Hear the word of the LORD, you rulers of Sodom; listen to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah! 11“What is your multitude of sacrificesto Me?” says the LORD. “I am full from the burnt offerings of rams and the fatof well-fed cattle; I take no delight in the blood of bulls, of lambs and goats.12When you come to appear before Me, who has required this of you—this trampling of My courts?… 1 Samuel 15:22 But Samuel declared: "Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, obedience is better than sacrifice, and attentiveness is better than the fat of rams. Proverbs 15:8 The sacrifice of the wicked is detestable to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is His delight. Proverbs 21:3 To do righteousness and justice is more desirable to the LORD than sacrifice. Hosea 6:6 For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings. Romans 3 25-26 25God presented Him as the atoning sacrificeh through faith in His blood, in order to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had passed over the sins committed beforehand. 26He did this to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and to justify the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 5:8 but God demonstrates His love for us in this, that while we were still sinners Christ died for us. Philippians 2 6-8 Who though being in the form of God did not count equality with God something to be grasped but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant , being born in the likeness of man and being found in human form , he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on the cross. Mark 10:45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life a ransom for many Ephesians 5 2 And walk in love as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God John 1 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming towards him and said," Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world." Revelation 1:5 And from Jesus Christ the faithful witness. the firstborn of the dead and the ruler of kings on earth. To Him who loved us and has freed us from our sins by His blood there you go that should give you a pretty good idea of what the bible has to say about sacrifice and the kind of people from whom sacrifice has any meaning. My prayer? to be a person who's sacrifice has any meaning at all.
They were Canaanites, Robert and much of the OT is lifted from the Ugaritic tablets at Ras Shanra on the north coast of Syria.. They did believe in blood sacrifice.
This is very important for serious Bible scholars. http://www.theology.edu/ugarbib.htm The Ugaritic tablets are a wealth of information. http://cojs.org/the_tablets_from_ug...es-_peter_c-_craigie-_bar_9-05-_sep-oct_1983/ The Tablets from Ugarit and Their Importance for Biblical Studies, Peter C. Any discussion of the Bible should begin with a discussion of the creation story. The discovery of DNA, DNA sequencing, radiometric dating, geology, fossils, and observations of the cosmos should have demonstrated to anyone with a (let's say) high school education that the Bible account of creation is absurd. So focusing on (for now) the beginning of the Bible, would any of the Bible proponents care to provide a rational explanation of why anyone should consider the Biblical account of creation to be factual?
A simple answer that defeats all of that. God created Adam as an adult man. There is no reason he could not have created the whole earth in an adult state with deteriorated mountsin ranges and rocks with millions of years of decomposition. Extinct species even oil deposits I am not advocating this position but. It's one of many easy ways to reconcile the bible's creation story and modern science, not that it needs to! At any point science disagrees with God. The science is wrong. Fact is none of us have experienced the creation of earth so we are all guessing, yes even the best of scientists are guessing. It is impossible for someone who didn't witness creation to suggest concrete ideas of how it happened.
Science is not guessing. Have you ever taken a science class at the high school level, let alone a college level science class? What you call a guess and science calls a hypothesis, must be (to be accepted by science) tested and verified. The position religion takes, i.e., claiming we don't know, therefore God did it is IMHO pathetic Ever hear of Occams Razor?
Human observation is subject to fault. Science is nothing more than organized himan observation. In some respects such as non observable past events. The only thing humans can do is guess. They. Can certainly make the best guesses they can. If high school or college science classes are teaching you that we know how the earth was created, well since there is no way they could know that, they are lying to you. You cannot observe an event that occurred before you were born. You can look at the evidence and make your best guess. But that is all it will ever be, a guess. If science is teaching anything else. They are full of crap
You make your absurd claims that science is simply guessing while using a computer and Internet, etc. invented by science. Tomorrow you will likely drive in a car invented by science. When you get sick you will go to a doctor and pursue a cure based on science. If you believe that science is based on guessing then all I can say is you should not even have (and probably don't) a high school degree. Next you will tell me science classes should be removed from high school. Who needs a class in learning how to guess? I keep hoping to have an intelligent discussion on subjects like the Bible but it simply boils down to the fact that Bible thumpers suspend their critical thinking and make all sorts of absurd claims. Your evidence for your Bible creation claims are what exactly?
Can you please read what i wrote without jumping to conclusions about me? The practical science that makes a car go down the road. Is far far different that looking at space and looking at rocks and making theories about how the Earth came to be...
