I guess Boris Johnson is serious, after all.
    Interesting what happens next.

Well there is the other thread where it has been mentioned but possibly at the moment people are in too much shock to know how this will develop. Just like Hitler did in Germany, Johnson has suspended the UK Parliament. Craig Murray has something to say. A 'coup' is how some people are describing it.

and he speaks particularly about Scotland

    https://www.craigmurray.org.uk/

The leader of the Scottish Tories is expected to resign tomorrow. There are apparently 5 days where Parliament will sit next week where they possibly could change it though they are saying it is too short. There could I hear still be a General Election but I have also heard Johnson has plans to avoid that as well. Basically Democracy in the UK has never been on more thin ice and that is the very basics of democracy one person one vote without even thinking of democratic values. Along with Democracy being on the ropes so is the amount of unity required for stability in a country and of course a party who for one reasons suspends Parliament will have no trouble doing it the next time it wants to do it for longer. Very dark times for the UK.

Hogwash. The Queen has approved a temporary suspension to present new legislation and the plans for future parliamentary sessions. Remainers have had 3 years to debate Brexit and prevent democracy, it’s over, they failed.

How about the democracy where majority voted to leave? Or that democracy doesn’t count?

He is very serious and it’s high time Britain had a leader with guts. I would suggest an awful lot of the electorate prefer Johnson’s tactics to slimy Corbyn’s strategy to bring down the government and install himself as emperor. I would take a no deal Brexit under Johnson than a Corbyn government every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

The headline on the new channel I’m watching is ‘CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS’. It’s rather amusing how people get in a tizzy over nothing. Her Majesty approved government shut downs are perfectly normal and far from a crisis.

Some people describe it as ensuring the results of the vote are enacted.

    Very Hitler-esque.

It was a non binding vote. There is a reason why most important decisions require more than a simple majority. There should be more of a referendum on making a lasting decision like BREXIT.

Also, that vote didn't say they were going to leave without a deal.

If he couldn't make a deal, why did they get rid of the other lady? Her deal has to be better than no deal, right?

It’s a lesson learned for the future, incredibly divisive.

This vote however, was portrayed by all MPs as a binding vote, the victor takes the spoils. In a legal sense it’s not binding but I posted somewhere else long ago all of the times the then Prime Minister, David Cameron, promised to obey the result.

I am not going to get on to blaming the queen as she is too old but this is not an elected Government and it is not a Government with a majority in Parliament. Her job if anything ought to have been to ask him to call a general election. That being said it also discloses the total failure of the British supposed Democracy with its so called unwritten constitution where people can make up that it is all right to act as Hitler and suspend democracy.

That is not what this is a bout. This is about Parliament. We are a representative Democracy. No one by the way voted for No Deal.

Yeah, especially when they voted for it.

    So undemocratic.

    White-supremacy lite.

Some people think that his intent is to allow no time for Parliament to discuss and stop them doing what they intended to do to stop him and then at the last moment give them the opportunity to vote for May's deal in preference to No Deal. They just cannot believe his intent would be to do the damage to the UK that No Deal would do...but there again Boris is funded by Hedge funders wanting No Deal.

    Dealer's choice I guess.

Really the problem is that the 'Centrists' in the UK would rather see a far right authoritarian Government than let the country vote Corbyn in. They support neo liberalism much more than democracy.

It wasn't what the voters voted for so has no place in any argument that that was what they voted for.

Just so everybody knows, her Majesty didn't chose to support the suspension of Parliament. She has no choice, her constitutional duty is to do what her PM asks her to do.

Yes that is so but I was listening to some people discuss it tonight and given that this government was not elected and does not have a majority, they thought that in this instance her first thought should be that and she should suggest an election was required. That being said no one is blaming the queen in this instance.

Edit: They mentioned another country, I think it was Italy which had a similar situation and the President whose power is much the same as the queen's sorted it out by demanding another election.

    Of course it is.

They voted to leave the EU.

How they were to leave was never on the ballot.

So now they're leaving the EU. Democracy protected.

LOL, suspended for a Queen's speech that she agreed to. Happened many times before. Gives Parliament time. The anti-Brexit crowd are crying like you are.

They did not vote to leave on a No Deal. They did not vote to have Democracy suspended. As was said earlier this referendum was non binding. We are not a direct Democracy we are a Representative one.
