Sad to say, but what just happened with the #TexasShooting proves what I previously proposed.....license and register guns like we do cars. Won't stop such tragedies, but it will greatly limit them.

So absolutely zero licensing required to buy a gun and keep it on private land.

Yeah! I'm sure Criminals and every other Crazy nutjob out there is gonna take their AR-15 that they probably stole down to license and register it with the Government
Why do Democrats always want to go after the Law abiding gun owners first, but completely ignore Criminals and give Illegals a free pass if they fail a background check to buy an AR15, because they fear they'll be reported to and deported by ICE. Democrats! go after the Criminals and Illegals FIRST! and let me know. that you're serious about Gun Control and then I'll be willing to listen to your nonsense, but in the mean time stay the F away from my 2nd Amendment rights to own a AR15, so I can defend my family and property against those Criminals and Illegals you give free passes to and allow them to victimize Law abiding American tax paying citizens.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns -- just like illegal drugs are everywhere except among the law-abiding citizen.

How do you figure that will eliminate mass shootings?

We can take no steps to lessen the number of mass shootings or the amount of damage done by mass shooters because there will continue to be such crimes. Lets extend that logic. We should spend no money on border control because there will always be ways for illegals to get in the country.
Any legal step that will lead to improvement in the situation needs to be considered.

How about a legal law against murdering people? The best way to curtail any human behavior is sever and swift punishment for a specific transgression.

We already license and register guns like we do cars.

Therefore it will have no effect

I agree, but that hasn't solved the problem so we need to continue to look for solutions. One loophole that seems to be ignored is stiff penalties for those who illegally transfer guns to those who should not have them. Serious prison time with a felony conviction and lose the right to have a gun?

Why do we keep talking about guns? I stab you to death we don't talk about knives. I run over you with a car we don't talk about cars. I poison you with anti-freeze we don't talk about anti-freeze. I strangle you with a rope we don't talk about ropes. I beat you to death with a baseball bat we don't talk about baseball bats.
The first step to solving any problem is to be able to identify the cause. Anyone want to take a stab (no pun intended) as to the cause of mass shootings?

Because guns are much more effective in providing large body counts than knives cars or antifreeze. That's why mass shooters choose them.

Why are you opposed to trying to stop the flow of illegal weapons into the hands of people who are denied them by law?

"Why do Democrats always want to go after the Law abiding gun owners first",

Because they are LAW ABIDING. Sometimes being LAW ABIDING can be a bad thing.

If one is law abiding why would one be opposed to uniform background checks or any measure to try to keep guns out of the hands of felons or people with mental illness?

You just described every single semi-automatic and fully automatic firearm that crosses the Southern border carried by a drug guard. Several hundred every month.
And most are sold off at flea markets out of car trunks because the payoffs are so large that it isn't worth the risk trying to take them back across the border.

These same firearms show up in many of the street shootings in Chicago, Baltimore, St. Louis, LA and other Dem run cities. The shootings are mostly related to protecting drug turf.

But the Dems only seem interested in curtailing legal firearm purchases of legal residents.

And the DEMOCRATS have ZERO interest in stopping this illegal firearm flow.

You haven't forgotten 9-11-2001? Remember Tim McVeigh? He was no mass shooter but he quickly killed a group of people.
If it worked I would not oppose it. Bad people can buy guns from other bad people. There will always be bad people and always be guns. I will say it again -- guns are not the problem. I answered your question so now go back and read my question and take a stab at it.

Nothing wrong with universal background checks. HIPPA would have to be modified for mental illness inclusions in records but I'm fine with that also. Felons don't worry about background checks so the impact there is going to be minimal. But I guess that Crip seller could run a check on Blood buyer in theory...

Haven't we had laws against murdering people for a long time? Do such laws prevent murder and other crimes?

    No I haven't forgotten 9-11.
Didn't the country take steps to work on solving that problem like checks in airports, strengthening cabin doors on planes, and putting marshals on planes.etc. Why are we unwilling to explore things that might make it more difficult for domestic terrorists? No one step will stop them all, but wouldn't it be worthwhile if some were stopped or the head count could be reduced?

Does having a license and a registration prevent you from plowing into a group of pedestrians?

    If so, how?

It allows the police to take away a license and then to jail those who continue to be a danger to others.
These arguments are so silly; mass killers choose the most effective tool they can get and that is not a car, or a knife, or a hammer, or a rock. Even though all of those can kill.
Which is likely to kill more innocent people, a car or a semiautomatic weapon. Remember there are many places where crowd gather that the weapon can be taken to and the car cannot.
Remember that a person has a better chance of getting out of the way of a car than a bullet.

Does it stop people from stealing cars?

Does it stop people from driving without insurance?

Does it stop drinking and driving?

Does it stop people who have lost their licenses from driving?

The most effective tool used to commit a terror attack in France to date was a truck. In the UK, explosives on a bus.

The most effective tool used to commit a terror attack in the US was two airplanes.

If you think criminals, who will ignore the requirements for licenses and registration, will bother to get licenses or register firearms, you're not thinking clearly.

Additionally, if a felon is in possession of a firearm, and gets caught with that firearm, they cannot be prosecuted for not registering it. That is self-incrimination.

This proposal is worse than useless.

We are talking about mass shooters that kill innocent people not drunk drivers and car thefts. What is the weapon of choice for a domestic terrorist?
