So we don't have to give up eating prime beef? Can we shut up the leftist who want to ban meat. I'm type 2 diabetic, meat protein and meat fat is important to our diets. And a good steak taste sooooo good. My mamma's roast beef recipe is soooooo good. It's the food chain and we are at the top.

"Good news — researchers have debunked the cattle and climate change myth! Check out the latest findings and share this blog post far and wide!

    ...
Simply stated, beef production isn’t just sustainable; it’s regenerative. And despite what the naysayers claim, cattle grazing and consuming by-products of crop production play a critical role in our ecosystem.

Our consumers should be able to enjoy beef without guilt because it’s good for them and the planet. Period."

As far as the AGW hypothesis goes, people forget vast herds of buffalo once roamed America farting and belching to their hearts content. Cattle have merely filled that void.
As far as environmental issues go there is a case to be made against cattle production. The water consumed by them in an era of running low on that resource in the arid west would be one and the fact that it takes eight pounds of grain per pound of beef would be yet another. Also there's the refrigeration and freezers required to store meat once it's dead that is a high energy user. Then there is the change to ecosystems in areas where cows graze that have made species like sage grouse an endangered species or close to it. Far more efficient to eat the grain ourselves instead of feeding cows with it but grain doesn't BBQ up real nice. Eating cows is the definition of the American culture and it's not going away anytime soon.

Grain has a lot of carbs, bad. And processing grain into edible food we want to eat every day has it's own energy cost.

The carbs verses proten diets are an interesting subject and seem to swing back and forth as to which is better for you. One thing to remember is rice is a staple of many countries and any meat at all is considered a luxury for the wealthy. Those countries also have very low cancer and heart disease rates compared to meat eating America but I'm sure other factors also come into play like our addiction to high fructose corn syrup, junk food and lethargic life styles.
As for the environment it's just fact that it takes an average of eight pounds of grain per pound of meat so on that level meat is not an efficient food source unless you eat wild game which can be extremely efficient. One bullet for a hundred pounds of meat on the average whitetail is an excellent use of resources but not everyone can or wants to hunt so industrial meat is here to stay.
Personally I don't like the crap anymore. It's full of hormones and antibiotics and is tasteless to me. I prefer wild game and an occasional beef steak from a local outfit that grass feeds with no finishing grain or antibiotics etc. Kind of expensive but delicious to eat now and then.

Or they eat grass and the carb count in the grain is exponentially higher and the protein about half.

    That being said

Q: How much feed does it take to produce a pound of beef? A: Depends on how you calculate it!

If you stop to think about it, a 2.5 or 3:1 ratio of grain to flesh is pretty amazing. We humans are much better off eating one pound of beef compared to what the cows are eating. Feed for cattle includes corn, wheat, soybean hulls, cottonseed meal, corn and soy oils. That looks a lot like the ingredients on many of the highly processed boxes of junk food flooding our grocery store shelves. One pound of beef, which is the most digestible protein, the most bioavailable source of iron, and a fantastic source of B12 (iron and B12 deficiencies are among the leading nutrition issues around the world) is clearly nutritionally superior to this cattle feed.

Not to get bogged down in the meat to grain debate, both have their place in the food chain and for the individual. And recent studies have shown that animal fat is not so much bad thing we used to think and in fact people like me with type 2D benefit as it helps against insulin resistence a leading factor in type 2D.

So good to know that beef is not the environmental destroyer too.

Estimates of pounds of grain to pound of beef vary widely with sources and it's true many cattle are fed cast off grain residue from other products, even beer brewing. That's efficient but I think it's why industrial meat has no flavor these days. I used to raise a pig every year and it was eight pounds of good pig feed grain per pound of meat and those things were absolutely melt in your mouth delicious!
As for high protein verses carb diets I went a couple decades on what basically was the Atkins diet and felt great and was very lean despite high calorie intake. Unfortunately as I got older I began having high BP so I switched to low meat high carb and my BP came down so I no longer need medication for it. Every body is different and different ages may also require different diets. No one size fits all here.
As for the environment in general I don't think there is any getting around the fact that it would be better off without industrial meat industries but having said that it's a very minor player in the scheme of things and I wouldn't get real excited about that. I am a bit biased though do to my witnessing the sharp decline in game birds over my lifetime due to overgrazing on arid BLM land in the west. It's definitely effected the bird hunting around here.

The real "poison", generally speaking, is fructose (and high fructose corn syrup). That **** ain't good for people, and is largely what is causing our health problems in America, as opposed to other countries which don't use the stuff. As you said, other countries do fine on "rice" based diets. Personally, I eat a high protein diet and do try to reduce my carb intake a bit, but I by no means eat a "low carb" diet (I do like me some pizza). I basically all but eliminate sugar intake unless it is coming from a source where I am also getting fiber with it, and even then, I don't intake much sugar.

This is the correct answer. We are all individuals, and our realities all differ. There is no universal "correct diet". Different foods affect us differently.

if one is not insulin resistant, or have a fatty liver from too much fructose or alcohol or have diabetes, they can probably handle more carbs just fine

in fact, it's possible some people's ancestors evolved where there was much fruit year round and may have evolved to better handle it, but from the looks of the results of the last 40 years, over half of Americans are not able to handle a high carb diet

most people if they just cut out the simple sugars and heavily processed seed oils form their diet would fare much better - those two are the biggest bang for the buck

Dont tell the Canadian cows that still have fart tubes shoved in their asses. The only thing worse than living with a fart tube shoved in your ass is knowing that it isn't serving any purpose there (I would imagine...).

His basic argument is that forests and grassland would create as much methane as cattle, but he doesn't back up the claim with anything.

It was written by a paid shill of the meat industry and the fossil fuel industry. So, it looks like a propaganda piece.

And it's not a peer-reviewed paper. It's published on a "we publish anything" internet library site. That's why nobody in actual science has looked at it.

However, it has fooled those who want to be fooled, and that was why he was paid to write it.
