There is nothing wrong with that cinematic transition technique.

If socialism is so bad why does the US function with it in operation?

Not sure if real socialism requires that there not be any private property or not. I guess it's a matter of extent if not. And would we be much better off without Social Security?

If anyone does want to use the term "socialism" as a universal opprobrium, then one must either 1) provide a definition of "socialism" that includes things like universal access to health care and free college but excludes things like universal access to roads and free high school; or 2) admit that one is against roads and high schools too and is not so much of a capitalist as an anarchist.

If one does want to say that "socialism" is the same thing as, or inherently leads to, "communism," then one must delete the Facebook account, take three upper division philosophy courses, read a history of economics book (Robert L. Heilbroner's "The Worldly Philosophers" would be a good start), and stop trying to have adult conversations until one does have at least some minimal idea of what is socialism.

I tried getting people to share their definitions. IMO, it's become one of those catch-all hate words. I noticed how certain news media sites are really pushing the term.

Is a national unearned income tax advisable? Single Payer Health Coverage? Nationalize University? Guaranteed housing? How far is this going? What will people be working for if everything is "free"?

I think some misunderstand the concept of 'free' in our society and government.

Is the complaint some get more on a cost-benefit analysis?

Sure, and the rich are not complaining about it, are they?

You are saying no capitalistic economies have police and fireman and parks? How absurd. And BTW those aren matters for local communities not the Federal Government except for national parks.

Our system is a regulated democratic socialism that provides these service, Medieval Man, and it is absured to suggest off the top of your head that only the local community should be involved.

Hint: we don't live in the 19th century, and we are not going back to it.

Just HILARIOUS to see how obsessed righties are over a rookie Dem Congresswoman.

Almost as bizarre as watching, say, Tom Brady obsessing over some local high school quarterback.

Anyway, never heard of this republican heng woman, but it's certainly no surprise to see that she got SLAUGHTERED by the Dem when she ran for Congress last year.

The classless republican loser clearly has no political future in my great Golden State... :democrat:

If the GND is implemented we will be going back to the 10th century. I think it might be a good idea, actually.

Real socialism is a ponzi scheme. It's history of failure is the proof.

Are you paying the same tax rates as those who earn more than you? If not, you have nothing to say

Our system is not socialist democratic or otherwise

As always leftists have to invent false definitions of what socialism is in order to defend socialism

There is no "socialism for the wealthy". Socialism only takes from the wealthy. What you and Jake are talking about isn't socialism.

    socialism
    noun
    so·cial·ism | \ ˈsō-shə-ˌli-zəm \
    Definition of socialism

1: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods
2a: a system of society or group living in which there is no private property
b: a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state
3: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

Notice how there's nothing in the definition about having public roads, fire departments, etc. A police force, for instance, is not a "means of production".

You don't get to redefine socialism for everybody. What you desperately want to NOT be the definition of socialism is, in fact, the actual definition of socialism, and no amount of arrogant bluster is going to change that.

Nope, nothing in there about high schools or roads. So, should I trust the actual dictionary, or some internet rando? I think I'll go with the former. Simply put, socialism doesn't exist just because there is some sort of a public sector; rather, it exists when there is no private sector. The US has never been in such a state, and God willing, never will be.
