What part of "From my cold dead hands" do the democrats not understand? Our Civil War was fought by states against states. Confiscating guns would be a war of people against people in each and every state. Funny thing is one side would not be armed. Oh wait, they would use guns to take away guns. I get it. Well, maybe it's a lot of hot air spewed by politicians who know they are speaking to fools.

Didn't we ban automatic weapons without special permits or licenses? Did we have a civil war over that? Banning weapons designed to do nothing but kill lots of people very quickly is the same logic. No one wants your rabbit gun. And you don't need a AK47 for home defense.

If you need a 30 round magazine to hunt deer, then you should take up darts or painting instead.

And you will be fighting attack helicopters, not liberals.

The tired old "needs" argument. We dont "need" to justify our rights.

My rabbit gun is rather benign in appearance but has the same rate of fire and capacity as any scary looking "assault" weapon" but is not banned. In fact the military has made a statement that the AR15 does not qualify as a weapon of war but the hand wringers have deemed it as such. This ban is all based on non gun owners piss poor understanding of firearms and their baseless feelings about sports rifles which is what the AR15 is. All guns even weekend plinkers like the AR15 are dangerous in the wrong hands. That's the only real problem and it seem's that nobody has the political will to do something about that. All of the rest is bullshit.

    I’m a gun owner too.
Having said that - having a rifle that looks like a military weapon isn’t really necessary for defense or hunting. I’m not sure how a law could be formulated to ban such weapons, but I wouldn’t put “assault weapon” definition in it.
Another thing I consider to be excessive - large capacity magazines. My S&W 9mm came with 2 17-round capacity magazines. That enables me to shoot 35 times in a short period of time. Why do you need a magazine that holds 30-50 rounds? I think up to 20 is enough.

So, I wouldn’t mind laws that limit two of the above.

The bigger issue, seems to be the need to enforce current gun laws, and make punishments for repeat offenders even more severe - if you own a gun when you should not own a gun (felon, psychological issues) then the punishment for owning them should carry mandatory time in prison. Those who lose more than one gun that ended up being used in a crime should be prohibited from buying more guns, as it’s obvious they buy to resell on black market. Same thing for people whose guns were stolen more than 2 times.

So, there got to be some laws and better enforcement.

'We' banned marijuana by precisely the same methods as automatic weapons.

It started with catch-22 'regulations' in the 30s whereby you had to get a tax stamp to own it, but you had to present ownership to get the tax stamp, and upon presentation to get the tax stamp, owners were arrested for owning without a tax stamp.

A decade of this reduced popularity (of both) enough that there wasn't enough substantial resistance to codifying additional regulation (of both) into judicial law.

I love it when uninformed lefties tell us what we don't need. Any minute now someone from the Australian peanut gallery will come in and echo the same tripe.
I have hunted rabbits with an AR15 and an AK47 is a very effective low cost, reliable deer rifle. For general range work I prefer a five or ten round mag as it is less cumbersome.
As for home defense, an AR15 with 30 round mag loaded with Federal or Winchester 55gr sp's to be an ideal home protection firearm as it penetrates far less through drywall.

One of hundreds of examples to be found but seldom if evr reported on,
Homeowner’s son kills three would-be burglars with AR-15

I fear no gun. I fear human predators who use many means to murder, ie, knives, pressure cookers, poison, vehicles, fires, hammers, their hands, etc. I will defend my Second Amendment right, "From my cold dead hands". Don't tell me what kind of gun I can have. I'm a law abiding citizen.

I guess you don't really understand the 2nd Amendment do you? As a member of the "unorganized militia" you as a Citizen are obliged to maintain the ability to form or join an organized militia should the need arise. That requires the possession of at least one armament which is military grade.

I meant the poster saying "no one needs an Ar"
We dont have to justify our rights based on 'needs'.

If you were not genuinely supportive of disarming all Americans of all modern firearms, you would not have to add your alleged gun ownership as a revealing afterthought.

My 9mm handgun has more killing power than half of the rifles in the US.
In many countries cops are using 9mm guns.
Just because it doesn’t look like a military rifle doesn’t mean it won’t kill you.

A nice .40 cal semi auto is great for home defense. For women I recommend a 9mm. Using a AR platform or an AK or it's Chinese cousins at close quarters is bonehead territory. You will most likely shoot your accros the street neighbor.

Unless one personally know another member what compels someone to claim that another member does not own a gun? Oh, I get it the accuser disagrees with the person politically so the accuser decides to accuse that person of not owning guns instead of debating.

It's vapid hype. Everyone understands that.
    Afterwards, Heston developed Alzheimer's disease.

Sensible regulation of firearms is supported by the vast majority of Americans, gun owners included. Despite the paranoia, they oppose confiscation of firearms - unless justified by "red flag" laws.
