Viscous indeed. I didn't mention those, thought I'd scared him enough. Of course. drop bears hate vegemite, so provided people who are new to Australia consume plenty of vegemite they should be OK. :D

Also, magpies are seriously dangerous. One actually killed a bloke here last week. No foolin'. Unlike our higher profile nasties, the chances of being swooped by a magpie are pretty decent for folks who live near trees.

Yep, and I wonder how many car accidents have been caused by huntsmen spiders the size of tea plates dropping into someones lap while their out on the road.

That happened to me... sorta.. one the size of my hand ran across my windscreen on the inside while I was doing 100km/h. I managed to safely pull over and finish him with my shoe.

    Ooooh .. sour!

I loathe Melbourne. It's the least liveable city in the country, IMO. Police shoot folk at random, street gangs are growing bolder, and if you even look like thinking differently to the mob, you'll be regarded as a pariah. Biggest wealth divide in the nation, while its premier (a Progressive, naturally) is paid more than any of his equals. It's full of Guardian readers and White Supremacists (aka, Progressives), and people talk funny.

You couldn't pay me to live in that rapidly sinking ship. London, LA, San Francisco, and Melbourne. The first four cities lost to Progressivism. The bell whethers.

Would migrate there without hesitation. But only to South Island .. much better climate.

Oh yeah .. cause I'm such a redneck, right?

Anyone who doesn't like Melbourne must be. Probably evil, too :p

Saying the same about immigration to America would get the left calling you a racist or zenophobe. Just a fact.

Our visa requirements are pretty strict

You have a better chance if you choose a rural or remote location and have a skill required. If you are a health professional and willing to work in the country you won’t have an issue getting a visa

If she is thinking of an Aussie capital city with a “mighty river” running through it she has to be thinking of Brisbane :p

    When it is flooded maybe?

Do any of our capital city rivers count as 'mighty? Not sure the Derwent, Torrens, Swan, Yarra or Brisbane rivers really qualify.

So where is paradise as far as your concerned? I only ask because I hear the Falkland Islands are quite nice this time of year. And we'd all be happy to help you pack.

No, an opinion. Some people get those things confused. I suspect a lot of those people also don't know how to spell xenophobe. Best stick to shorter words....and subjects you actually know something about. Australian immigration policies clearly aren't in that rather small category of topics.

I also grew up in a small rural town in the Hunter Valley NSW. As I matured into my late teens I saw the real "country hospitality". Oh they act friendly enough but they are extremely narrow minded and closed to anything slightly different.
I now live within a mile of Central Station in Sydney and find the people much more friendly, open and accepting.

One day I can take my grandchildren hiking in the bush. Within the Sydney area we have some of the most magnificent National Parks. The next day I can take them to a selection of some of the world's best beaches. The following day we travel across Sydney Harbour to Taronga Park Zoo, arguably one of the most beautiful zoos on the planet. We have some great museums and art galleries covering every imaginable area of the arts.
The other day I took my grandson to the Rugby League and was amazed at how multicultural the spectators were.
Sydney is one of the world's most beautiful vibrant colourful safe and friendly cities in the world.

Yep, country towns can be closed to new ideas. The old women who monitor the moral health of the community can be cruel and unfeeling.
God help you if you are gay!

1 . We have divisive politics alright. It's natural to feel the grass is greener on the other side, but no nation is without division. As an example, we've had 5 PMs in 5 years.

    2. Medicare is a pretty small aspect of your life, let's be honest. Nevertheless, I like that we have a moderate system which preserves private cover. We are not the UK. I like that.

    3. Don't be fooled, you are giving up a lot to live here. We don't have strong freedom of speech protectionw, it is illegal to utter speech which is reasonably likely to offend. You are fined for not voting. Every country has its issues freedom wide, but check out our downsides to see if you can tolerate them. Are you an airsoft pro? Airsoft is illegal here, etc.

    4. Are you destitute, a criminal, or of poor character? We don't want you. Australia is not a charity. Are you hard working, driven, and willing to assimilate? You won't find a more welcoming place on planet Earth.

    5. If you want to check it out, PM me. I own a property in the South of Western Australia overlooking sand dunes, the Southern Ocean, and have known the land since I was 6 months old. I'd be happy to have you if you're considering becoming an Australian!

To some degree it doesn't matter what government you have if there is nobody within the horizon. Australia does this better than anywhere else.

Well, you guys don't have a stupid far left party like we do here in the U.S. that is one good thing about you all. Also, do you all accuse others who don't agree with your opinions "racist"? Do you all get obsessed over a foreign country "interfering" with your elections even though the opposition was a bad candidate and called half of Americans "deplorables"? If you all have common sense like that, please get me out of here.

    There’s a downside.
We do have a PM who wanted to take his pastor to the US with him.

Both our major parties are obsessed over China interfering in our political parties. The left are obsessed with the right and visa versa.
Yes and people on both sides use the racist card although more often than not they are talking about bigotry
