I hate to be a pedant but that is tidal not wave power.
I sailed across the bay of Biscay once, it took 4 days because of a lack of wind and the sea was as flat as a pond.

I just wish that they would spend the money on this that they are prepared to spend on wars to protect the oil supply. Looks as if they're about to spend a fortune backing the Saudis to prop up the US oil companies heavily invested there.

Government and military spending are inconsequential in this for the most part as it is going to be corporate and private industry doing the heavy lifts. Solyndra syndrome is mostly propaganda.

When all the world's ice melts, seas will have risen some two hundred and odd feet.

Also, a meter measures usage such as an electric meter, gas meter. A metre is a metric unit of measurement.

Exactly.... which is why Mr. Carl Cantrell's idea is so attractive to me.......
If his theory is correct that turning down the heat that is going into the atmosphere from the world's deserts is
possible..... then instead of the earth heating up by several degrees...... Theoretically... it may be possible to
keep the temperature of the earth relatively stable...............

I got into that in my 2008 campaign..... post #3....

"Bjorn Lomborg argues that many of the elaborate and expensive actions now being considered to stop global warming will cost hundreds of billions of dollars, are often based on emotional rather than strictly scientific assumptions, and may very well have little impact on the world's temperature for hundreds of years." (lomborg.com/coolit/)

Two effective methods to combat global warming and simultaneously fight rising ocean levels have been proposed by New Mexico biologist Carl Cantrell.
Another promising method to green the deserts is to use hydrogen fuel cell technology to power vehicles in the hottest and driest regions of the earth. Imagine millions of vehicles across the Sahara, the Middle East, near the US Mojave desert and in the outback of Australia all spewing harmless water vapor as exhaust! Rest assured humidity and rainfall will increase in those areas and vegetation will grow.

Last week I wrote a lengthy e-mail to Green Party Leader Elizabeth May. "Ms. May, if you owned a large apartment building and your tenants complained that the rooms were too warm would you listen to the advice of the contractor who was telling you to rip all the insulation out of the walls of this structure?"

"I don't think that you would because your article indicates that you have a phenomenal intellect and listening to this probably self-interested contractor would be incredibly unwise!"

"Combating global warming by first getting rid of CO2 is comparable to tearing the insulation out of this hypothetical building. CO2 is not a pollutant. Plants love this compound and some people even seem to feel that the recent greening in some parts of the Sahara Desert is partly attributable to increased levels of CO2. I tend to strongly agree with them in this assertion."

"Several days ago Mr. Charles Moore informed me that Canada produces roughly only 2.5 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Our nation could invest billions of dollars into reducing our carbon footprint and yet all this would have essentially zero effect on the global environment if China and India did not take similar measures.... besides....CO2 IS NOT A POLLUTANT... PLANTS LIVE ON IT AND RISING WORLD OCEAN LEVELS ARE ALMOST CERTAINLY THE GREATEST MOST IMMEDIATE THREAT POSED BY GLOBAL WARMING TO EVERY COASTAL COMMUNITY!!!!!!!!! (E-mail, September 11, 2008)

Ms. May deserves credit for encouraging Canadian political leaders to take environmental issues more seriously but at this time I feel that she has far too much confidence in the proposals put forward at Kyoto. The skepticism that Prime Minister Harper had for this accord seems to have been based on sound reasoning. Liberal Leader Stephane Dion was wise to hope for more time to further study this complex subject before an election.

You would be astonished how many of our political leaders do not understand the tremendous benefits of historical Canadian monetary policy.

The Bank of Canada Must Finance our Country, Debt-Free Say Three Economists

    .......

We have been told that we are almost helpless before these massive problems but what did the author of Genesis say about human capability for either evil or good if we unite on a common goal:

"And the LORD said, Behold, the people [is] one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do."Genesis 11)

Can we visualize extensively using hydrogen fuel cell cars in California, Nevada, New Mexico, Israel, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Australia and Kuwait?
"And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water." (Isaiah 35)

Please also take a look at my campaign writings from 2004 and 2006:

If you elect me as your Municipal Councillor on October 18 I will try my best to promote effective solutions to our greatest problems to all who will listen.

Thank you for your considering of this information and for your support.

    Kind regards.

How do you plan to desalinate so much water? What power source will you use?

It's irrelevant anyway. You're never going to be able to de-salinate enough to keep up with the vast amounts of ice melting and if you use it on the land for agriculture it's going to find it's way back to the sea anyway, either through run off or evaporation and precipitation.
Improved rainwater collection would have far more useful results and the energy for that is provided by nuclear fusion in the big yellow ball in the sky.

But we could try and two thousand replicas of Sorek..... could sure produce a lot of desalinated water in one day.....

    http://www.politicalforum.com/index...illion-dollar-problem.525406/#post-1068713597

And IF Carl Cantrell's theory is correct.......
there is a point at which the deserts will stop putting quite so much heat into the atmosphere.....
which could slow down the melting on Greenland, the West Antarctic Ice Sheet and the world's glaciers......

Couple of things, water vapour in the atmosphere has a powerful greenhouse effect. More than CO2 in fact. Plus that water will eventually come back down again in the form of rain and end up back in the sea anyway.
Looks like crack pot science to me. Could you post the link please so we can see who is responsible for it. I can think of several better uses for a trillion dollars tbh. Tidal or wave power are both under utilised and hydro-electric both collects water and generates electricity from it.
Painting everyone's roof white probably has as much effect for a fraction of the cost.

I can't even imagine the amounts of energy needed just to pump that amount of water onto a dessert never mind the desalination process.
That figure is ten times the amount of ice melted on Greenland in a record breaking day this summer (12 billion tonnes). It can't be true.

True. I just had to raise two small houses I have build over tidewater. At super high tides in wind from a particular direction, sea water was beginning to lap at the floorboards. Both have real fireplaces.

    Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is very interesting indeed to know that the top three largest desalination facilities at this time are in Islamic nations!

    Thank you for this Margot2.

    Oh, PLEASE!!!

Let's note that the ME has a need for fresh water that is significant enough that desalinization is a cost effective solution in some places.

Let's get off this idea that everything that happens in the ME is because of Islam or by Islam.

This may help you to understand:

Muslims Jews Christians Hindus mutual respect group

Can Muslims, Christians, Hindu's and Jews all unite around the fulfillment of an ancient Islamic prediction for the Last Hour?

This obviously reminds me of Isaiah chapter 35 and..... .of an alternative theory on stabilization of the climate put forward by a New Mexico biologist and coach:

An ancient Islamic prediction is being acted on.....
and.... Isaiah chapter thirty five is beginning to come to pass as well....... to my thinking this is quite significant.

The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

    [IMG] Isa 35:6

Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

Now notice post #21 here..... MONEY is also being made abundant:

You said, "That is very interesting indeed to know that the top three largest desalination facilities at this time are in Islamic nations!"

    Islamic???

Are you aware that the ENTIRE ME has only 17% of Islam? Are you aware that no ME nation has as many people as Islamic majority countries outside the ME?

The reason people build water resources is that they NEED WATER! Furthermore, capitalism indicates that doing so in a cost effective manner is important!

We NEED to be rational about issues that occur in other parts of the world. And, getting hung up on religion when religion has NOTHING to do with it is a serious problem when it comes to us making rational assessments.
