An impeachment inquiry gives them certain powers that they do not otherwise have in their normal legislative duties. The ability to circumvent executive privilege for example. The Dems have stated that they are in the midst of impeachment proceedings by doing an impeachment inquiry. Pelosi herself said it when she announced the impeachment inquiry "under that umbrella". If they are "under that umbrella" then they need to vote on it per the Constitution and precedent. They are supposed to act as a whole, not independently. Otherwise Trump is quite free to use executive privilege as that is a part of his power. Whether you, or the Dems in Congress, like it or not.

Because it's a *******ned HOUSE impeachment inquiry. The Constitution doesn't give ANY impeachment authority, subpeonas or otherwise for a DEMOCRAT impeachment inquiry. It's not a HOUSE inquiry until the HOUSE votes and approves one. And until it does, the Democrats don't even have authority to wipe Trump's ass. Impeachment is NOT oversight.

Is that why Trump keeps telling the people that are working or have worked for him at the White House to not testify, because he wants the process to go quickly.

Its always been my experience that the courts are out there to rule who’s right and who’s left.

This thing is heading to the SCOTUS. How do you think it’ll rule? :juggle:

First, @Steve N , why did you like this post?

Second, yes, there is an odd perversion of logic. "Hurry up and vote on impeachment," they say and then what would happen? Is trump going to suddenly reverse course and start to permit access to the documents and witnesses requested? Probably not.

And the folks busy demanding an official impeachment inquiry vote now, would they condemn that flip flop in logic? Hell no.

    Understandable.

It is quite damning that we are shocked to learn that a 1/4th of the Republican party would dare to come close to accusing trump of doing something worth investigating.

Some democrats wanted to impeach Trump before he even moved into the WH, other democrats wanted to impeach him before they even took office. They show a clear hatred and bias and are ethically obligated to recuse themselves from voting. But we know they won't because the have no ethics.

Because impeachment is a political process and support from constituents has a large role to play in whether individual congressmen and congresswomen are willing to go forward. The recess is an opportunity for members to speak with their constituents while the investigation can further unfold.

But to your other implied point, trump is accused of abusing his power here. Not necessarily being such a national security threat that demands an immediate removal.

    Kangaroo court
    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A kangaroo court is a court that ignores recognized standards of law or justice, and often carries little or no official standing in the territory within which it resides.[1] The term may also apply to a court held by a legitimate judicial authority who intentionally disregards the court's legal or ethical obligations. The defendants in such courts are often denied access to legal representation and in some cases, proper defence and the right of appeal.

Prejudicial bias of the decision-maker or from political decree are among the most publicized causes of kangaroo courts.[citation needed] Such proceedings are often held to give the appearance of a fair and just trial, even though the verdict was already decided before the trial actually began.

A kangaroo court could also develop when the structure and operation of the forum result in an inferior brand of adjudication. A common example of this is when institutional disputants ("repeat players") have excessive and unfair structural advantages over individual disputants

Absolutely not. There is zero connection between this inquiry vote and access to documents until a court finds differently. Considering both the House and the Senate subpoena documents and witness testimony all the time without any 'inquiry' votes validating their need, and the courts are reticent to interfere with House rules, I think this challenge may face difficult sledding. .Should the House recommend this inquiry via vote, then the administration will work overtime find other grounds to deny access, all the while demanding fast and incomplete action in the House.

Pelosi should do exactly what pleases her caucus, and do what develops a full public record on events preceding and pertinent to those documented in committee as a foundation of articles of impeachment. This entire process should be thorough, well researched and airtight regardless of outcome.

So if they voted, or a court ruled they didn’t have to, you’d demand trump comply?

    1. Who is acting like a king?
    2. Regarding rules, have you been remotely following what the democrats have been doing with their impeachment fiasco?
