    https://saraacarter.com/mit-researcher-in-2020-independent-less-likely-to-vote-democrats/

With all of the hype about Trump not having much support outside his base, the research is showing a different picture.

    Are Independents enthralled with Trump?
Probably not on the basis of spirit, morale or loyalty which represent the primary triad of Clausewitz.

But are they motivated to keep the prosperity flowing? Yep...

And are they probably scared of the radical ideology (AKA baby eating and 10 years to live hysteria) that the Dems are pushing? Absolutely!

This guy from MIT is probably wrong.... and Warren won't end up as the second coming of another Massachusetts version of Dukakis. Hee Hee

<---- This is one Independent who will for 99.9% certain be voting for Trump again in 2020.

I've gone from voting for Obama in 2008, to half-heartedly voting for Trump in 2016, to wholeheartedly supporting Trump for 2020.

That's kind of a big swing. Democrats need to get their sh*t together.

This polling was all done before the White House announced that they are not beholden to the oversight of the Legislative branch yesterday. A few weeks of that nonsense and opinions are going to change. Folks always talked about Obama as if he thought himself a king. Lets see what they do now that Trump and his administration have actually started acting like he is.

Could you please explain "radical ideology (AKA baby eating and 10 years to live hysteria)"? I've not heard those terms before.

And this is one independent who wouldn't vote for Trump if he were the only candidate in the race.

Once upon a time, when the Republican Party welcomed actual conservatives, I would vote for a Republican now and then. I didn't care about the letter next to the name and I've never registered with any political party (been voting since they lowered the age in advance of the 1972 race).

But the GOP has sold its soul to Donald Trump, and the old style conservatives, the logical and reasonable conservatives with whom one could have a spirited but polite debate now and then, are gone or have gone silent. After saddling a majority of we the people with Trump, who cares only about his own ego and cares nothing about the people or our Constitution and system of justice, no Republican will ever get my vote again. Not ever, no matter who is running against them.

I would rather vote for Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck.

Of course. The Democratic party has gone full communist. What sane person would vote for a Democrat?

Dems have written off the American people, preferring to cater to illegals and trying to block Trump in the most petty ways possible.

2020 is going to sting for dems.

It won't make a bit of difference to his base. They believe everything he says and would probably welcome Trump as "president for life." They claim to love their country, but for Trump they would be willing to trash the constitution and destroy the system of checks and balances that our founders took such care to devise. Currently, they see Trump as the victim, which is exactly what he wants according to his many false narratives in the last few weeks.

If the OP had bothered to actually read the "study" he would have discovered that results were WITHIN the Margin of Error!

IOW's it was about as accurate as throwing darts at a blank wall without a target on it.

This far from an election the Independents will still be in wait and see mode.

Cherry picking extremist comments could have had the opposite result had the study used some of the extremist lies that the BLOTUS spouts.

Whomever is the ultimate Dem candidate is NOT going to be pushing an agenda of "eating babies" so to use that bovine excrement just discredits the study itself.

This early on the most that anyone can expect from Independents is that they are open to all possibilities and will decide once they know what their options are.

I was curious why you used Saracarter.com instead of the NY Times article that she references.

Now I see it is because the research published by the NY Times is based on a study where they try to evaluate how Independents would respond if presented with a specific version of the policies that might be offered by the eventual Democratic nominee. Given the fact that Democrats have not selected their nominee, let alone the fact that the theoretical nominee has not finalized their policy offerings, this study is only interesting to the extent that it could help persuade Democrats to alter their political messaging and policy decisions.

Also, your baby eating line comes from a Trump supporter.

That's so true. I had meant to say that my statement was more about the undecideds and moderates but forgot to actually include that. His hardcore supporters will give him their votes no matter what he does or how he acts. This forum is evidence of that.

It's an interesting conclusion, coming from someone who defends the Bidens Ukrainian and Chinese family racket, who voted for utterly corrupt Hillary, who couldn't care less about Warren steeling her career from a deserving minority, who has no problem with antisemitism festering in the Democrat party, with idiot squad members de-facto running it, with intelligence services politicized by Obama/Biden...

But you think we should vote for this scum over Trump who has been investigated by dozens of utterly biased prosecutors that still failed to find even an unpaid parking ticket, whom the dems are terrified to impeach because they have no case and who is MAGA.

Jeez, unreal, the libs are confused why Democrat party slander, lies and smear don't work. Lol

I didn't vote for Trump in the last election, but I will this time.

Not because I like Trump, but because I absolutely hate what the democrats stand for and the direction they want to take the country.

I consider myself a conservative libertarian. I don't align with the Republican social issues.

"With all of the hype about Trump not having much support outside his base, the research is showing a different picture."

As a moderate Democrat, I'm not too concerned by six percentage points. especially since (IMHO) none of the "radical ideology" will be around on election day

    Probably most of em.....

Remember that Trump tweeted.."if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits"

Since there IS nothing off limits in TrumpWorld, Turkey has tacit approval to commit genocide...

    Yawn, respond Republicans...

On topic? Ridiculous.... Independents will go the way that's best for the country, and that is NOT 4 more years of this shitshow...

Next week? It's already started. They are already being slaughtered by Trump's buddy, Erdogan. This is one of the worst things our country has ever done, abandoning people who have been fighting and dieing by our side for more than five years. It's making me sick.
