So the top three Democrats have released their "plans" for higher education. And guess what their plans are? Raise taxes and just send more money into the system so colleges can increase their tuitions and college professors can line their pockets, ala Elizabeth Warren and her husband.

    "
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden wants to make community and technical college free and federal college loan programs more generous as he shifts leftward but not as far as his 2020 rivals.

The former vice president’s $750 billion higher education plan represents a major expansion of the federal government’s role in educating Americans beyond high school. But Biden’s pitch Tuesday is not as sweeping as proposals from his more progressive rivals Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, both of whom offer plans exceeding the $1 trillion mark."

Note how they love to toss around the word "free" in order to distract and fool the voters. It will not be free it will be government, TAXPAYER paid.

"Jill Biden, the candidate’s wife and a longtime community college professor, explained her husband’s approach."
Yea an approach so his wife will be paid more, maybe she should try a Ukraine school!

"Sanders and Warren propose universal, free access to all undergraduate public colleges and universities."
It's not free, the colleges do not teach for free. The taxpayers will be paying for it.

And Biden wants to expand it and Pell grants and cost the taxpayers even more.

Plus expand how much they can borrow and then make it easier not to pay it back. Who picks up that tab? The TAXPAYER.

Of course these tax increases on the taxpayers are already going to pay for "free" healthcare and "free" Social Security, and "free" housing and "free" minimum incomes and on and on...

But nothing about CUTTING COLLEGE COST. And THAT is the problem, government injection of money leads one way, higher tuitions and then more government injection of money and even higher premiums.

If you can bear to watch it tonight just watch during the debate all the "we need free this and the rich will pay for it all" bromides and platitudes. But hey maybe if the moderators have any guts will actually force Warren to admit she is going to have to raise taxes on the middle class.

Don't worry about Biden's plan. Biden's never going to be the nominee.

    The Greatest State of California
has a great system of "city colleges"
where not only can one earn transferable
credits for the first 2 years of a 4 year College/University
but also "trade school" education such as
    airline jet engine mechanic.

    That goes way back.
How is the current proposal different.
I did notice when I lived in Milwaukee
city college = trade school, only
Not the first 2 years of college.

And another thing regarding free college, that does not mean universal acceptance. you score 800 on your SAT your not going to get in. They are not saying that they are going to build another 12 million desks. But that if you get in, you can go for free. Some Posters seem to think that free college means that the kid in the bottom 20% of his grad class is all of a sudden going to go to state U.

Nothing about the root cause of the problem - that is the absurdly high cost of college/university tuition ??

Yes, that’s just a blank check written by Congress to the corrupt US higher education complex paid for by the US taxpayers. The colleges will charge as much as they can and the Congress will “rubber stamp” the investment in goodness.

A lot of collges are Universities see boston college and a lot of univerisites are consited of colleges, such as At Brown the college of medicine, etc. Universities are instiutions that grant terminal degrees and also have a research component to them. As a Univeristy grad, and father of two university grads, one Ivy league and the other Umass as myself why would you think I did not know the diff.

The problem with free community college is that community college doesn't prepare you for the jobs of the future. I'd rather see free technical schools and boot camps, and online job training.

Community colleges that have associate degree programs in medical/nursing, law enforcement do not prepare anyone for a job? Have you ever been to a community college?

I have an AA degree. Community college AA degrees mostly give you prerequisite courses which aren't related to your major. These courses are meant to make you well-rounded. Community colleges are a more advanced version of high school.

The problem with free community college is getting the teachers to teach for free and administrators administrate for free else it ain't free.

Obviously when they mean free, they mean free of direct payment and not free of taxes. Lets actually debate the actual proposal at hand.
