I find it strange that while Hebrews themselves are not allowed to do slave raiding, they are allowed to obtain slaves either from military conquest, or buying them from foreign flesh merchants who obtained them from slave raiding.

Relevant in that the words of the ancient tome did not bring me to tears and on my knees shouting "Hallelujah!"

Well we certainly know a lot more than an ancient tome asserted to be from an all knowing deity.

Then why do you want to sit in pews and hear a man in funny robes read you instructions not meant for you?

Is it just if I make a person clean my toilet at gunpoint?

So why is the instructions on treating slaves relevant other than from a historic perspective of how far we've gone. There is ZERO instructions here on how to obtain salvation!

If you don't do what you are told (including cleaning your master's toilet without pay), you are killed. Indefensible.

I'm going to keep coming back to the 'cleaning another person's toilet without pay' thing. That is the most degrading task I can think of short of sex slavery (which the Bible doesn't necessarily condone, but allows God's chosen to do).

These days somebody can get paid to clean a hotel toilet and a nursing home toilet and can even walk away if they chose to. You could not say the same for people in the Bible (well, I suppose they didn't have toilets then, but with the omission, there would be nothing wrong with forcing somebody to perform that task).

I wouldn't even make my own daughter clean my toilet as a household chore. I do it myself.

Economic reasons? I'd rather have the freedom to walk away and struggle and fail to survive in the wilderness than subject myself to work without the hope to earn a house and a plot of land and then subject any children I may or may not have to that life.

Also in Bible times life was much more difficult. By today's standards we can hardly imagine. It was arguably better to become a slave to a wealthy master than to forge ahead on your own. Remember, we are talking about arid regions and hostile nations. Not that easy to live off the land as here in America. One might also have better protection to throw in with a wealthy master. A different culture a different economy. Slavery had a different connotation. Slaves often even prospered. The New Testament even put slavery on a pedestal. Apostle Paul claimed to be a slave to Christ and to all. Jesus washed His disciples feet a job often consigned to slaves.

It is beyond any comprehension to try and compare New Testament slavery to American slavery based on devaluing a race to subdue and control.

In the Bible, only Jews were considered men (Humans). Gentiles were considered animals (beasts, and called dogs and swine).

Just remember, in Isaiah 14:1-2, Gentiles will become slaves to the Jews in Israel. In the the Talmud each Jew will get 2,800 Gentile slaves. I hope you will enjoy your eternal servitude.

So why did God send Jonah to preach repentance to a gentile nation, Ninevah? Scroll down the link and you'll see 10 other verses on God's concern for gentiles in the OT. You must just make this stuff up.

Don't you know that the biblical God character was simply the series of emperors and chief priests who ruled the dominant Middle Eastern empires? The God character bit the dust with the collapse of the Babylonian Empire and the death of its emperor around 530 BC. That is why he hasn't been heard from since and he is never, ever, going to come back. You need to stop believing in ancient ethnocentric Middle Eastern Jewish religious fairy tales.

No, I don't know any of that. Funny how you're so obsessed with a bunch of ancient non-entities.

I've been thinking about doing calculus problems as a hobby but I like to "tweet" on the forums.
