If you haven't been attacked by a foreign country on your own soil, but have itchy feet to march into some damn conflict, but don't intend to win, and don't intend to get benefits for your people at the expense of the enemy's people (you should spoil them and take their gold and art), just don't put troops in harm's way.

    WRONG on multiple counts!

Since WW2 the USA successfully saved South Korea from Communism and won both the Cold War and the Gulf War.

Still waiting for a logical answer why the US should be the worlds police force when it gets young American men killed.

Notice how fast the Gulf War was won when it didnt have "rules of engagement" coming from Washington?

Because a measure of order around the world benefits the United States and its allies both security wise and economically. And no other nation on Earth is going to do it in a way that works to the advantage of the U.S.

It was fast. But no benefit from the effort remains.

I don't disagree and I've been married nearly 22 years. But times change and new benefits can emerge over time.

We did not win the Korean war it ended in a truce. A republican won the cold war Reagan, and a Republican won the Gulf war.

I think most people nowadays consider the Korean War ultimately to be a win because we stopped the communists and South Korean became a thriving capitalist economy and eventually a vibrant democracy.

No you're not. You might be waiting for your Viagra, or you might be waiting for the Rapture, or you might be waiting for Godot; but I know damn well you're not waiting for a logical answer, because at least two posters have previously provided one, me included.

The only reason I agree with you on this is because the Koreans were sorely hurt because of how WW2 ended up. They weren't part of WW2, but we made a deal with Russia to split the peninsula up because the Japanese had taken over the place.

In a just world, we would have told Russia that they'll just have to do without Korea. They weren't involved in the conflict, except to be enslaved by the Japanese. Roosevelt didn't and so I add NK as well as the many lives lost during the korean war to another stupid mistake made by the democrats.

Thank you for establishing that the BOGUS allegation was WRONG.

PRETENDING that Republicans ALONE won those wars is asinine!

I think any war the US participates in should result in loosing country transferring 2/3 of their reserves to us and American companies having exclusive rights to extract and sell that nations natural resources for at least 20 years, and those companies should pay extra tax for no competition. Those funds should recapture the cost of war.
    Call it a Liberation Fee.
    Otherwise we should not bother.

The logical answer is that Ike's warning went unheeded, and having perpetual war is good for war profiteers.

When you intend to take territory and force the enemy surrender, but then you lose the territory you had and the enemy forces you to the table -- that's what's called a gd loss.

But for the cunning and supreme tactical ability of MacArthur it would have been a whole lot worse for the US.

There's also the fact that the USA didn't trust the south korean government, since it also wanted to reunite the two korea by force and the USA didn't want to. So the USA removed all heavy weapons under the control of the south, thus rendering it totally inneficient in case of an NK attack. This is why the NK were able to move so quickly and take over about 80 to 90% of the country before the USA and UN stepped in. Hard to stop tanks with rifles...
