So I've been hearing this trope that younger people aren't interested in cars. And I mean this in general but I also mean this is in classic cars. I remember when I was younger I really wanted to get into the hobby, but I just kind of lost interest. So this got me thinking. I'm around younger people a lot and I get to talk to them and I asked them about it they think it's cool but they don't want to get involved with it. And sadly I think the reason is the same reason I lost interest. They have no connection to these things. It's nostalgia for the baby boomer, but it's just Dusty old relics to the younger people. Does anybody else think about this sort of thing or is it just me?
A couple of generations became fascinated with cars. No reason to think it will continue with future generations. I am struck by old movies where people go for a drive as a pastime. I can remember the end of those days when driving was in itself a thing to do. Today, we might go for a scenic drive in a special place, but almost no one drives just to be driving. And before long, no one will know how to drive.
I wasn't talking about driving just to drive I was talking about interest in cars. If people didn't care about cars the prices would be going down not up.
I was talking generally about how interests change over time. We have already seen that the early fascination cars has waned in other regards. You made the claim.
foot manufacturers still build then and people still buy them. The interest in 09 will never go away because of their utility. I don't understand this response.
A huge number of young men got interested in cars over the decades because having a car increased your chance of getting laid significantly. Now having sex is more dependent on the number of "followers" you get on Twitter and Instagram.
Car are still a status thing. But young people aren't interested in classic cars. And I think that has to do with Beach classic cars not meaning anything to them.
it costs more for the tools nowadays, so unless they have the tools already at home, probably not gonna happen
Certain cars you don't need a full set of tools for. And all you really need are hand tools you can get those for less than a hundred bucks at harbor freight.
Having a fancy car has never gotten anyone laid ever. Car companies have spent a lot of money to convince people of this idea. But I've never seen any evidence it's true at all. Having abs and not being an *******s will get you laid. Girls don't care about your car. It just makes you seem like you have a small dick.
I don't know about that one. I think women are more interested in whether or not you have a big wallet vs abs. Having an expensive car indicates you have a big wallet.
of course girls don't care about a car. at least for the reasons most guys think they do. but a guy having a car gives them the ability to put a girl in an isolated location where they are inherently more vulnerable to pressure and coercion. Not to mention the confidence boost it gives to the man.
Maybe classic prices will come back down Torinos for me thanks. Especially 1970 Scj with the drag pak option
I don't think prices coming down will do anything. The problem is there's the missing attachment. Younger people aren't interested in classic cars because they don't mean anything to them. The classic I would like to have if I could have any of them would be an early 70s Ford F-150 because that was the truck my grandfather drove. I think the problem is with the older people not doing anything to make these things mean something in the younger person's life. And what really drives this point home is the classic car museums shutting down. Museums are for Dusty old relics to rot into nothingness. Cars are meant to be driven lived in used and loved.
Maybe more like younger people these days haven't been able to afford cars. Where have you been over the last 12 years? Maybe that will begin to change as entry level wages pick up. Besides economics, the other factor is that many young people these days seem more interested in their iPhones. And with hook up apps, they don't need a car to go around looking for girls.
in the old days they had local drive-in's, today there are few left, but not many, we had one in my town growing up, but it was long ago replaced
yeah it's because even the junk fetches top dollar. The idea of buying something it's heavily worn and get it to roadworthy condition being cheaper then buying something serviceable is a thing of the past. that's because people who are into classic cars don't want to include them. To encourage them to care about it. They just stick them in the museum to rot. And then they wonder why nobody comes to the museum. yeah that's all because of the iPhone I really believe that. "The technology I don't understand it's the reason why the world is changing." Said every relic who is falling into obscurity. Don't blame it on them, it's not their fault.
Well in the older days, 50s-70s, drive in movies was where a substantial number of teenagers and young adults went to have sex. But since then with more single parent homes and in homes with two parents with both of them working, there are not adults at home and teenagers routinely simply have sex in their parents homes.
yes, no longer are many people paid enough to have one parent stay at home, teens often have the home all to themselves, this is true in the beginning two working parents was a bonus, now it's become a requirement for most families
