I'm not aware of any elaborate abuses of our asylum system over the past decade. That system is highly complex, detailed & demanding from those entering it. It has multiple layers of security cross-checks, background checks, & double checks, for every applicant, & the process takes years to complete. Trump was & is completely unaware of this, & assumes or simply makes up lies to create fear within his base, to keep them stirred up. Trump is punishing innocent asylum seekers in real need, based on his ignorance regarding the system & how it functions.

On the contrary, I know families who migrated to America over the past century yet still speak the mother tongue at home ... even the great grandchildren (ie, the fourth gen). They will undoubtedly continue this tradition if they marry within their own ethnicity. Guaranteed. As an example, in my own Western nation, I know and have known many Greek families who've been here for generations and everyone still speaks Greek at home - as long as they keep marrying within the community.

You either aren't familiar with certain cultural groups, or have only been exposed to situations where the parents don't share a language (ie, mixed marriages).

Either way, what possible difference does it make where the person migrates to? If you're a migrant, you have to learn the new language period.

Utter crap. Sorry, but you're just wrong. Go meet some Chinese American families who've been in the country for generations. As long as they are not intermarrying with non-Chinese, I guarantee most are still speaking the mother tongue. Do the same with Korean Americans, and Greek Americans.

More importantly, what makes America any different? Does it have magical powers to erase culture?

I've never once mentioned Europe, and none of what I'm talking about is in Europe. You keep failing.

If you're not lying, you are making false assumptions based on whatever European country you live in (and are afraid to name). In any case, you are incorrect.

What country or countries are you talking about then? Your claims are simply untrue as pertains to the United States.

Your textbooks are no replacement for thousands of years of Chinese culture, apparently. The Chinese have been travelling out into the world (all over it, in fact) for centuries .. and STILL speak the language. Everyone who's ever had anything to do with Chinese communities in the West knows this - yet here you are, allegedly some kind of expert, yet you don't know. Clearly, your expertise is built upon 'theory'. In practice your ideas are demonstrably wrong.

The English speaking Western world, Asian nations, Africa, etc etc. Europe is a blip on the map when it comes to the Greek, Italian, Chinese, Arab, etc diaspora.

And no, they are not untrue of America. I have friends who visit regularly, and speak the damned mother tongue with citizens who were born there. Ditto in Canada. They have no problem at all finding people who speak their language.

You can stop right there. In addition to the textbooks you want to burn, I have worked around the world, and closely with immigrants to the US from every corner of the globe for 25 years. You are wrong, no matter how badly you want to be right.

You don't seem to ever have had anything to do with Chinese communities in the United States (yes, it is different than other countries). Young Chinese immigrants to the US often avoid ABC because they most often cannot fluently communicate in Mandarin (and are so culturally distinct, having been born in the US rather than China).

Speaking with friends while visiting. That is proof of primary language use in the home on a daily basis, of course

    You're not doing well.

Which, of course, has next to nothing to do with what language a family uses as their primary means of communication on a daily basis in the home.

American culture differs from most others in its tendency to assimilate new peoples and cultures. Assimilation does not mean "erasing culture."

No ... speaking with merchants, business people, health professionals, students, etc etc etc. They have no friends there.

I'm reminding you of the cold hard fact that the Chinese diaspora (all over the world .. except for Special America, apparently) retain language for centuries. LOOK IT UP. But go ahead and pretend that's a win for you, if it makes you feel better.
