I have not lived in Somalia, thank God. And I assume you have not either. So we are both dependent on the reporting of others. Let's see what they have to say about the place. I'll start with an excerpt from Wikipedia. I don't grant Wikipedia automatic authority, but what they have to say about Somalia concurs with everything else I have read:

A pretty horrible place, wouldn't you agree? You can see why people would be desperate to get out of there, to come to white racist imperialist America. The problem is, what attitudes towards society and the state do they bring with them? Are they likely to assimilate to become Americans in anything but the dry technical legal sense? Or will they continue to see the world as a dog-eat-dog, victory-to-the-strongest, everything-is-a-lie place? (Well, why shouldn't they, since that is what the increasingly-powerful Left in the US believe about their own country?)

I think this is a legitimate question. I don't have a definitive answer to it -- there are plenty of examples on YouTube of Somalis in various Western countries acting in ways that make anyone with a sense of self-preservation very negative about the idea of bringing in more. But these may be very small examples, since it's possible to show horrific examples of people from any group whatsoever acting badly. But if you think the very question is illegitimate, then ... you're asking your society to destroy its immune system.

Thanks, that was very informative. I notice some similarities with Progressive thinking: the evil of conservatives and the immanent apocalypse of global warning. I am not the first to notice this, of course. What do you see with regard to these "mind control" techniques and the American left?

Absolutely - I just dealt with the use of sophisticated mind control techniques in a religious context. There is a whole other realm outside this context.

Just look at the "demonization of the Other" that goes on with the PC crowd. The demonization of men is just one example. We had "me too" activists going on major networks and stating outright - The woman must be believed - as if women never lie - as justification for "guilty until proven innocent" with respect to sexual assault accusations.

In the army - you have to use mind control techniques. Humans have in innate reflex against killing - they will hesitate before pulling the trigger. This is a problem in war - you have to be trained to follow orders without question. When the commander says shoot - you shoot.

Edward Bernays is the father of modern "Propaganda" - you can find his book of this title online - a few quotes can be found below.

    https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/275170.Edward_L_Bernays

The name of this science was changed from "Propaganda" - which got a bad rap due to Hitler - to "Public Relations". This is a multi multi billion dollar industry (outside of Advertising - which in of itself is a much larger pie - but also uses the same techniques).

Most folks are not aware of the forces trying to get them to think a certain way. It starts from the time a child enters kindergarten. The children these days are raised on a steady diet of "Utilitarianism" - Law Justified on the basis of "what is will increase happiness for the collective" I can't tell you how many times I have had conversations with young adults who express this ideology without having a clue what this ideology is - and how it is an anathema to individual liberty.

These folks did not come to this way of thinking on their own - it was implanted into them.

Reading the comments in this thread, and in others on this forum, leaves me with one overwhelming impression: what an intelligent and well-informed bunch of people, Left, Right, and Neither, almost all of whom are people of good will, even if some of them are (from my point of view) mistaken on this issue or that.

How is it that the nations of the world are run by a different sort of person? Is it that the intelligent and decent people don't want to dirty their hands with practical politics? It hasn't always been so -- we had Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Churchill, Ghandi, Mandela ... ... the world is now, because of globalization and technical progress, a much more dangerous place. We desperately need people with intelligence, compassion, practical good sense. Instead ....

As far as the army goes, you get trained and conditioned to follow orders as team work is necessary for survival, and not to overcome ones hesitancy to pull a trigger. *unless things have changed since '70, Once someone shoots at you, you respond in kind out of self preservation.

And children are indoctrinated to be able to function in a society with rules and standards of behavior not to the detriment of individual freedom as adults. I went to school in the 50s and 60s, I find the opposite, I see educators and society not teaching children to function as part of a group, but to value individual needs before the needs of the group.

And the purpose of the me too movement was to "force" credence on a woman's report of sexual violence, even if it happened years ago, not to paint the accused as guilty, just that the woman would have credence. Being a white baby boomer male, I always cast doubt on any report that did not get a police report. I now am much more hesitant to dismiss complaints out of hand. I think the only thing that it was detrimental to was office "romance".

I am still not clear about what you are trying to say. If you are saying that if we had to choose between giving our population a 7%, or 14% increase, or to maintain our 0.7% population increase, then the answer is a no brainer for obvious reasons. If you are saying that given the perceived choice between an extreme number(25M) of bad poor dumb African Blacks, or good wealthy smart European Whites, then the choice is also a no-brainer. So, despite the obvious pandering, and emboldening White Nationalists/Supremist fears, this is not how our State and Immigration Departments work. Our country does not need any more divisiveness, and fear-mongering rhetoric. Especially, since your thought experiment is so simplistic, unrealistic, and impossible.

It doesn't matter where a person comes from. They will always carry the emotional and social baggage of their homeland, as well as their own language and culture. Immigrants, and naturalized citizens will either fit in(assimilate), or be deported. Even naturalized citizens can have their citizenship revoked within 5 years. Or, under other special circumstances after 5 years. Immigrants can wait upwards up to 30 years for citizenship, and can be deported for any proven infractions. All US Citizens(including Naturalized), Permanent Residents, and non-immigrant workers, are eligible for a social security card. This means, that all the others are simply working in the US for zero benefits, and for the privilege of living here. The ITEP estimates that the States take in around 12 Billion dollars a year, off the backs of these undocumented immigrants(Agriculture and Hospitality alone).

Your scenario makes the false assumption that immigrants from any impoverished and violent country, will somehow manifest this poverty and violence towards our country. You then imply that being an immigrant from an impoverished country, will in itself justify our sense of self-preservation. I totally disagree with any excuses to justify any racial and bigoted ideology. The practicalities of immigration, has nothing to do with race or the social condition of the country. It is hard to justify having equal opportunity, in a country that practices discrimination in its immigration policies. Even Australia learned from its White Australian Policy in 1966. Unless you don't care about global isolationism, our national reputation and respect, our world trade, the environment, or our own citizens, then lets send out the message that the US promotes only for the welfare of its White Americans.

Maybe you can provide some real examples of the threat, that specifically shows the threat to this country, by those people from impoverished countries? Or, are we just inferring the conclusion, from a lot of false assumptions, not from the evidence? I certainly DON'T characterize my country as a, "..white racist imperialist America". I admit that there are many White citizens that have adopted Nationalist Supremist Ideology. But they don't represent the beliefs of the majority of Americans. If it did, we would still be having civil wars. Going backwards, is not always the best way to move forward.

Bold- is exactly what I stated - and part of this training is to overcome the innate hesitancy in humans to pull a trigger. That existed in the 70's and it exists now. When the commander says shoot - you do not hesitate, question, and so on - you shoot - that is your training - and as you say - this is necessary for survival.

You missed the point. Utilitarianism as justification for law - is an anathema to the founding principles. This does not mean we should not act as a group ... and that such things are not valuable - such as observance of rules and standards of behavior. The question being addressed, is where does the legitimate authority of Gov't begin and end.

The above is irrelevant to my comments. I am all for bringing to light injustices in our system - and some of those injustices involved that lax attitude by Police with respect to sexual violence.

Where I take issue is when Nazi Fembots - try to use these movements not for justice and equality, but to promote injustice and inequality.

The limits of the power of government is expressed in the bill of rights. Until the Patriot act, I never had a problem with the governments role in my life. Even when I was going to get drafted which is the greatest assault on The American individual freedom ever perpetuated. We allowed a draft of people who did not want to go to the military, and people complain about what in comparison.

I don't know how the me too movement is anything about injustice and inequality. Both parties have the same platform.

Agree. There is an innate hesitancy to pull the trigger, because all Primates have an instinctive revulsion against death, suffering, and dying. The act of killing(even suicide) is so repugnant in Primates, that it has become an instinctive trait. Our survival instinct must be tricked, dulled, drugged, sedated, or coerced, before it can be quashed. In many cases, no amount of training can override our natural survival instincts. There are many cases where soldiers froze-up, ran the other way, or even turned the gun to themselves. I have seen this first hand, and no one blames them. So, soldiers are not robots, they are humans under the most extreme conditions. They must also process watching their friends die as well. War is the worse of all human conditions. It strips away every semblance of youth and innocence. One day you are playing video games with friends, the next day, you are knee-deep in blood, fear, and death.

Today, war is becoming more sanitized and impersonal, by using drone technology, and strategic air strikes. Thousands of men, women, and children are now being killed in this way. We can now kill without a consciousness. We no longer have to witness the destruction and suffering that we cause up close and personal.

Do we even question why American soldiers are illegally occupying the sovereign land of other countries? Do we even question why we are sanctioning countries, in the first place? Do we even question the blatant stealing of another country's resources? Do we even question the wanton provocations, war mongering, and threats we make on countries we want to provoke war with? When Bush couldn't sell his lie that Iraq had WMD, he simply told us that Saddam Hussein was simply a bad guy killing his people, and we bought that. Because of this even worse lie, over a million people were injured, or lost their lives. Our military needs to be trained to protect and defend OUR nation and allies, from any clear and direct threat by any country. There should never be any doubt, when lives are at stake. All wars since WWII have been doubtful, or fabricated. Our soldiers are the prostitutes. The Military Industrial Complex, Military Government Think Tanks, and all the War Profiteers, are the Pimps. And, our government tells us, only what their Pimps tell them to say.

We really need Tulsi to stop this blatant Imperialist direction of our foreign policy. Eventually, Russia, N. Korea, Iran, and China, will have no choice but to step in, to protect their own interests. This would be a war where everybody loses. It takes no innate hesitation to push a button, than to pull the trigger. It also takes no innate hesitation to get others to pull the trigger for you. Our government is a pack of war mongering cowards, that care more about fattening their own purse and image, than the death of even one soldier. We need a real human being with real social empathy, who will serve only in the best interests of the people. Not a self-serving, ego-centric, pandering politician, who will serve only in the best interests of his corporate masters. There is only one person that clearly stands out above the pack. It is amazing to me, how any rational person, could vote for anyone as their leader, who displays none of the 7 character traits.

We are on the same page - I will get back to this post - in short - The propaganda machine is running full tilt - now trying desperately to censor the internet which is changing how people perceive the world at a rate that snuk up on the Establishment.

MSM is straight up Establishment sponsored narrative - owned by the big money Establishment interests - the National Enquirer of so called "news" .. editorial dressed up as news - or some frankenstein mixture of the two.

"Trump was appointed by Putin" no Putin has power - but not that much. Our leaders are selected - not elected - and our Ruskie friend does not have much say in the issue.

The people who appointed Trump - were the same folks who bailed him out of bankruptcy. The dude who represented the consortium that bailed Trump out was a man by the name of "Wilbur Ross" - dude Trump appointed to commerce secretary. Quit quo pro ? Not that any in the MSM will bring up ...

The idea that "Heir Putinski" .. has the clout of the Rothschild/Rockefeller consortium in our selection process is laughable nonsense on steroids :)

Putin does not own any of the Fed or major banks in the US ... the above club owns most of them - Mellon, Morgan, Chase, .. and so on.

That is the club that owns the military industrial complex - the Energy Sector - Food,- Chemicals - Media - Healthcare and Insurance Oligopolies ...

If you want to talk influence (meddling) by foreign actors in our electoral process (nevermind internal influence but it is all connected) .. The Russian Facebook ads by comparison - is like comparing a rain drop to a hurricane.

Other than in Russia , it's "Comrade Putinsky", I agree. It has always amazed me, just how gullible and controllable the collective minds can be, compared with the individual mind. We have a multi-decorated combat Major in the Army National Guard, with two tours of combat duty overseas. We have a 7 year 4 term sitting member of Congress, who has sacrificed everything for her principles of service above self, on many occasions. A person with almost palpable honesty, integrity, leadership, gravitas, and dignity, every time she opens her mouth. Do we call this person a patriot, a hero, a combat veteran, brave and courageous, or a person who loves her country and its people? No, of course not. We call this person a traitor, a dictator lover, an Assad toady sycophant, a Hindu/Modi nationalists, a Putin puppet, a Russian asset, a useful idiot, a Hindu cultists, a socialist, a liar and an anti-Constitutionalist, and someone who is not to be trusted. Her detractors can only make up vague, meaningless, and irrelevant reasons why they don't like her. It is never about any of her specific policies(other than out of ignorance). We have become so conditioned to the lies and theatrics that have consumed us all, that when the truth is in our face, our cognitive dissonance can only see the truth as lies. I believe if you put human s**t on the menu, and package it nicely, there will always be someone to order it. The more you say anything, the more it will be believed as being true. Why let good evidence, get in the way of a good lie? People just don't want to hear the truth, when lies always sound so much better.

But a person who has lifted all sanctions on Russian Oligarchs and banks, had verifiable business ties and financial dealings with Russia(https://themoscowproject.org/collusion-chapter/chapter-1/), is supported by Russian allies in the Ukraine, ignores his own intelligence agencies regarding Russian election interference, abandoned the Kurds to allow Russia and Turkey to have control over parts of Syria, ignore the assassination attempts on 2 Russian/British agents by Russia, and is openly welcomed back to Russia if he is impeached, is NOT considered an asset or Russian sympathizer? In fact we call him Mr. President. Are people really this dumb? All Russia, China, or N. Korea have to do to interfere into our elections, is simply say that they like the candidate and his/her policies. That's it, and then just let blind irrational mindless xenophobic tribalism take over. We are all better than this.

Like Tulsi says, "It doesn't have to be this way". Paper ballots, and no more foreign election interference. KISS. Stop killing people all over the world. Stop wasting trillions of dollars. Get money out of politics. Stop stealing resources from sovereign countries. The only people that will disagree, are the cowardly war mongers and war profiteers. Stop starting coups, financing terrorists, or changing the regimes of other countries. Finally, let everyone have healthcare coverage, regardless of their income or insurance levels. I think that most humans, let alone countries, would agree with any of these policies.

When are we going to realize, that MSM, or any of the corporate news outlets all belong to the same club? Why do you think that the stories all sound alike? These are highly paid actors, whose job is to convince you of whatever their corporate masters tell them to say. They might not even believe in the opinion that they are pontificating. All mainstream news outlets(Fox, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CNN, CBS, Washington Post, National Radio, NY Times, BBC, Newsweek, NPR, Bloomberg, etc.), belong to the same club of Oligarchs and Plutocrats. Their agenda is very simple. Keep the public happy, ignorant, entertained, and distracted enough, to relieve them of as much money as possible, with the least amount of suffering. For their services, they offer you hopes and promises, to placate your fears, angers, and hostilities. This is the danger of capitalism. It produces inequality, and an unfair distribution of wealth and power. It is Capitalism that leads to slavery, colonialism, and imperialism. Can anyone explain the relationship between the "Black Death" and the birth of Capitalism in the 16th Century? We need to control its influences in our lives, or start thinking of a dystopian "Mad Max" reality. Tulsi is the only candidate, that will begin putting us all on the road to recovery. She is the only candidate with the right priorities, in the right order. Or, are people more addicted to their pains, than to the solution to their pains?

On a lighter note. or by Josh Tatofi I love this version. This is what true nationalism should be. In our hearts, not only in our mind. As long as people like those above exist, I am proud to be an American.

Do you even know what socialism is? We have been living in a Socialist Democracy for the last 70 years. Without socialism there would be no public transportation, no social security, no aged pensions, no food stamp programs, no Medicare benefits, no public libraries, no disability payments, etc. It is only the rich can benefit WITHOUT socialism. But, for the rest of us, socialism is a GOOD thing. Of course, you can choose NOT to accept any pension, medical, or disability entitlements, and simply drop dead on the job if you want to. So before throwing out socialism as a dirty word, remember most industrialized nations have some form of socialism in their government. There is no such thing as a pure Democracy anywhere. It is only the rich, the selfish, and the ignorant that don't like Socialism. Just think what the US would look like without it.

So, only the rich can provide for themselves? Guess you'll forever paint the rest as "victims". That is the only path to get government control over all commerce.
Of course a pure Democracy does not exist anywhere. That would be like two wolves and a lamb voting on....."what's for dinner?"
We have never even considered a pure Democracy in America. Only Socialist minded Professors imply that we have! We are 1st and foremost a "Republic", a Nation of Laws, governed by the consent of the People I don't think you really understand what that is. In this land, we have an absolute right to own and maintain property. Our property is not up for grabs for redistribution by a "socialist elite" who seems to think they know best how to spend it!

The rich can provide for themselves, whether any socialistic policies exist or not. Their amassed wealth is not directly effected by any Government social programs, or policies. It is the poor, and those living in abject poverty, who are the victims, of the inevitable consequences of a Capitalistic Free Market System(the top 10% own 87% of all wealth). It is because of Government oversight, that those whose voices need to be heard the most, can be heard. You don't seem to understand, that the Government only steps in when abuses reach a level that can no longer be ignored. That is, when civil rights and corporate abuses affect the guaranteed rights of others directly. Lynching citizens and sending their photos throughout the media, will get attention. Systemic violations of any citizens Constitutional rights, will get attention. Small businesses being taken over by large corporations, or people losing their entire savings because of unregulated banking practices, will certainly get attention from the Government. Also, people dying from tobacco and food related illnesses will also get government attention. It is because of these government sponsored socialistic programs, that gives the other 85% a greater chance of not becoming a victim. The only responsibility of the Government, is to protect the rights of its people. Do you think that the Tobacco Industry cares if its consumers die from lung cancer, gangrene, or chronic emphysema? Can you imagine what the Meat, Drug, Pharmaceutical, and Food Industries would produce, if there were no Government oversight? Or, do you think that dying, should be included only as a market variable? Maybe we should end consumer affairs, or any other socialist protection agency of the government? Maybe, we should end all pensions and social entitlements, because they are socialist programs of the government? But first, learn exactly what a Democratic Socialism really is. https://www.dsausa.org/about-us/what-is-democratic-socialism/ It is somewhat ironic, that because we live in a Republic, that any of our Rights can be taken away from us, through "due process".

I doubt if a lamb would ever be considered as an equal to the wolves, but I think I see the point you are trying to make. This is not an example of a pure/true Democracy in practice. Regarding property ownership, did you know that only 50 people own 72% of all land in America(that's only 0.000000001% of our population)? https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/realestate/50-landowners-who-own-most-of-america/ss-BBW21s9#image=1 You are correct, America is not a true Democracy. It is a Representative Democracy, with socialist programs, for 50 State Republics. Did you know that the word "Democracy", does not appear in the Constitution, or the Declaration of Independence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmY6svzI2mw

I will comment on the Debate later. But Michael Tracy is pretty spot-on, in his analysis.

Tulsi was great as always but it was painful to listen to the stupid questions and vapid answers by most of the other candidates.

I do believe that would be a great start. We are entitled to keep the money we earn. If a company wants to set up a private pension...that is for them to decide. Just because certain elitists think Americans aren;t smart enough to manage their own life does not entitle them to make redistributions according to their own thinking.

Do you think all the Marijuana dispensaries the government has endorsed and taxes give a hoot about those items?....such hypocrisy. If you want to make government your Nanny, you better 1st find an honest politician. Not going to happen.

Pure misinformed, ignorance, and blatant cynicism. We certainly can find at least ONE honest politician, once we are able to remove the self-imposed subjective filters of our presuppositional tribal biases, and our top-down logic. Maybe you are unaware, that by voting into office the same, insincere, disingenuous, lying and pandering politicians, that your own irrational cynicism becomes artificially self-fulfilling. You voted for your elected representatives to represent you. You did not vote for you to represent them. If they do not serve your interests, then vote them out. Eventually you will get one the will represent your interests. Tulsi, is that candidate. Her policies are so practical, that they are terrifying to the elitists establishment and Corporate America. What rational person can argue that pimping out our soldier's lives for profit, is not a good thing? That the bribing of our elected officials, by special interest groups and corporations, is not a good thing? That the sanctioning of sovereign countries, until they bend to our will, is not a good thing? That any regime-change war is not a good thing? That sending American troops to fight any drug war on foreign soil, is not a good thing? The only thing worse than these selfish practices, are the people defending them. Tulsi is trying to wake up those people who are still asleep. Some people will always take the "blue pill", to maintain the illusion of corporate happiness.

Marijuana is a schedule 1 drug, as classified by the Federal Government. This means that it is highly addictive, and have no relevant medicinal value. This also means that it is more dangerous than Meth and Cocaine, which are schedule 2 drugs. Tulsi wants to make Marijuana a schedule 2 pain relieving drug, as a much safer alternative to the powerful and addictive opioids, that is issued to all veterans for their emotional and physical pain by the VA. Maybe you can compare and contrast the pain relief properties of smoking cigarettes, with the smoking of marijuana? Maybe then you can show a direct link between the diseases I mentioned, and the smoking of Marijuana. The Government's purpose is to protect our privacy and our other individual rights. So, yes it must care, and protect us against the harm it, and corporations can cause. Corporations couldn't care less about the harm it can cause. History is evidence of this. Corporations are only concerned with increasing its profits to maximize payments to its shareholders.

I have never heard anyone say that we should do away with disability, old age, or unemployment benefits, on principle alone. Without Government intervention, it is called Anarchy. Is this what you are advocating? You DO realize that the money you save for retirement, will be worth a lot less, than when you started saving it? I don't think anyone would want to live in a real Darwinian Society, with Laisse faire Capitalism. Only those with little or no understanding of political and social ideologies, would ever make such a claim. So what is your alternative solution? Screw em? Not your problem? Their own fault? I got mine, open your own doors? I doubt if anyone is this callous, or lack this level of empathy. Maybe you can also demonstrate how the Government is redistributing the wealth. Or, is this just more fears, that you assume is true?

There is tar and other substances in marijuana that are definitely not good to be putting into the lungs. Your living a fantasy if you think bong hits from smoking the stuff are less than healthy. Smoked in my early years. Didn't smoke tobacco. I know the effects aside from the fact it is mentally stunting. BUT government gets money from it so it must be o.k. Anything to keep the bureaucrats going.
You don't need a demonstration. You just need eyes to see. Those on the Democrat debate stage want to give healthcare now even to illegal invaders of our borders.

If I had all the money the government has confiscated from me over the past several decades for entitlements (to which others are entitled) I can guarantee you I would have done much better for myself as well as my giving to others had it been left to my own discretion. I don't spend money on lottery tickets, drugs or tattoos (you don't but bumper stickers on a Lambrigini) Though my money goes to those that do. I invest in projects that create a living for me. Government takes about 70% off the top to redistribute wealth for "administrative purposes". That is how lifetime politicians get rich on their upper middle class salaries. I can do a lot better than that if I was permitted to look after the needs of my own family, others and myself by keeping the property I have earned.

Yeah, she's rattling the cage ..... so much so that the New York Times has an entire article devoted to her white pants suit!!!

Who knew a pants suit could be so evil!! LOL

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ny...ard-democratic-debate-white-pantsuit.amp.html

Her white suits are not the white suits of Ms. Clinton, nor even the white of Ms. Williamson, whose early appearances in the shade often seemed tied to her wellness gospel and ideas of renewal and rebirth. Rather, they are the white of avenging angels and flaming swords, of somewhat combative righteousness (also cult leaders). And that kind of association, though it can be weirdly compelling, is also not really community building. It sets someone apart, rather than joining others together. It has connotations of the fringe, rather than the center.
