We need a woman president, and Tulsi fits the bill, she is young, well educated, she loves America

It doesn't matter her views, what matters is she cares about America and can unite us.

    I am a conservative-moderate independent.

Because the Dems are going to nominate Warren or Biden, I will vote for Trump in 2020. I hope he wins. But I realize that the pendulum swings, and the Dems are going to win the presidency sooner or later, very likely in 2024. When that happens, I hope the winner is Tulsi Gabbard. She is the best of the Democrats by a long shot.

If the Democrats lose in 2020, I will just shake my head at them because they passed up a quality person who I personally think could beat Trump.

Over and over, I read posts supporting Gabbard initiated by Republicans. Why is that?

I think conservatives like her for a number of reasons, even though they would disagree with her on policies. And remember, conservatives are split on foreign policy. Some support a militarily aggressive foreign policy, and some don't. And so it follows that you would see a lot of conservatives supporting Tulsi's foreign policy. It is actually similar to Trump's policy.

I can't put my finger on it, but I find Tulsi deeply disturbing.

I used to support Gabbard but not anyone. She is way too anti war.

Actually, it DOES matter her views. As an independent, I will vote for her if the corrupt duopoly will offer her as a candidate.

My only hesitation about her views is how she views AIPAC and Israel.

Agreed. And, likewise, I can't point to anything specific. But I think her performances at the debates have been decidedly lack lustre.

Yes, heaven forbid that a candidate be opposed to perpetual war brought under fraud and deception. Heaven forbid that a candidate be opposed to her brothers and sisters being killed in bullshit regime change wars.

At least Gabbard seems to be in possession of her own faculties and rationality about most issues. That alone puts her above all the others. I can respect Gabbard, but none of the others deserve anything more than defeat. There has never been such a herd of losers running for president as exists today in the democratic race. Still- to endorse Gabbard while the pack of rabid dogs controlling the party and holding congressional offices remain in position would be a high-risk choice. Just as Pelosi has had her long held authority and power usurped and hijacked by radicals, I suspect an elected Gabbard would be in the same position. The radical invasion of the democratic party has lead to "the tail wagging the dog"- and until the democratic voters purge their leadership of the extremists, they will not be able to elect an effective president, regardless of the person's qualities. That is the achilles heel for Gabbard; if she won, both she and the American people would still lose. IF the radicals felt she turned against them, and she would have to- they would turn against her- because blackmail and intimidation is how they think and operate, and nobody is out of bounds.

Democratic voters need to make it clear that honor, constitutional respect and common sense must return to the party as a whole, and tolerate nothing less- or it will continue on a path that can only result in self-destruction.

The party was fairly well destroyed in the last election cycle by Clinton and Wasserman-Schultz. Tulsi did the honorable thing then by resigning from the DNC.

The Russiagate fiasco and this current Ukraine fiasco have sealed the deal.

Sadly, the Repubs are in essentially the same boat. There are no real leaders in our duopoly. The American people have been craving real leadership for many years. The political system is barren of real leaders, and over-crowded with scam artists.

I think the current state of our society is much less mature than those of 50-60 years ago- much less practical, far more ideological. It's nice to envision great things, another to attempt to do something that is not possible. Kind of like feeling absolutely sure that if you just flap your arms hard enough, you can fly- so you jump off a cliff trying to prove it. We're long on old children today- but short on mature, responsible adults.

Here are a number of reasons why some conservatives like her. That doesn't mean they'd vote for her. Some would, some wouldn't. But they like her for these reasons.

    - She is a member of our armed services, and she is a war veteran. She started out as an enlisted person, got her degree, became an officer, and is now holds the rank of Major in the Hawaii National Guard. She did all that and ran for Congress, being elected to represent her district in the House. That is a lot of accomplishment for a person of her age.
    - She is opposed to regime change wars like Iraq, Libya and Syria, but she is not necessarily a dove. She identifies Al Qaeda as our enemy which must be confronted.
    - She is patriotic. On her campaign website, she recites the Pledge of Allegiance.
    - She is independent and doesn't follow the dictates of her party, much like Trump.
    - She continually gives a message of unity of the American people, saying that she respects all Americans, including "the other side". That is a message that is sorely lacking in the present atmosphere.
    - She is intelligent and articulate.
    - And she's likeable, even if you disagree with her.

So given that the Democrats are going to win the White House sooner or later, I think a lot of Republicans think she is the Democrat they would most like. They would oppose her on policies, but, believe me, we could do a lot worse than Tulsi Gabbard.

I disagree with most of her positions but find her to be very genuine, but she has zero chance in 2020.

too early in the thread to post up the bikini pic?

I'm not sure Americans who are fond of Liberty take Harris seriously. She's on record as wanting people she disagrees with to be denied free speech. She'd be Obama on steroids if she was allowed to control the IRS and intelligence agencies.

Her attack on Tulsi brought back memories from the dust bin of history:
"Everything in the state (party), nothing outside the state (party), nothing against the state (party)."

I can't believe the Democratic Party even entertains the likes of Harris. as a nominee.

I think Tulsi has the qualities that would leave the majority of Democrats in Congress with no choice but to go along with her. Not all of them, but most. I also think she would try not to completely alienate the Republicans, showing respect for their points of view. I think she would try very hard to find points of agreement and collaboration with them. Clearly there would be some irreconcilable points of contention, but I think she would foster an atmosphere of respect and compromise between the two sides, much more so than what we see today. What we are seeing today is scorched earth politics, and I don't think she would want to be a part of that.

Thank you for that list. I assume they respect her more than the recent displays of 'respect' shown to decorated members of the military during the hearings?

In post #21 I mentioned the "scorched earth" politics of our present day. I am hoping that one day our nation returns to an atmosphere of respect for one another, even if we disagree on things.

I tend to agree- but I don't think she would have a choice. Imagine a democratic Trump, I think she would face a nasty opposition within her party- and I don't have confidence in mainstream democrats preventing that. Wish that were a probability, but that takes rationality and responsible people. Not happening now.
