Perhaps you do, but you have led me to believe you are also in support of same sex unions and call it marriage.
It is purely a Constitutional issue for me. Once several states allowed same sex marriages, then the rights and privileges clause of the 14th Amendment made it imperative that anti same sex marriage laws be struck down. There are hundreds of laws both at the state and Federal level that give married citizens rights and privileges under those laws. Those rights and privileges are not the same for civil unions. Gay people were American citizens first and foremost. Why is that so hard for some people to understand?
Can't speak for Robert, but I would say "stop them from confusing same sex unions with "Marriage". I understand your concept. Same sex unions could have been made to have the same rights as "marriage." Render unto Caesar what is Caesars......those laws are secular and have little to do with faith. Just don't call it marriage. It confuses the children. I'm not into changing laws so much. It's changing the hearts toward good strong solid family units I am concerned with. Redefining marriage and family is not in our interest I believe. I have a right to what I believe. Want to send me to a re education camp like they do in China??
That is not always the case. Many are gay first and foremost. That seems to be their sole identity. All other causes be damned.
Question for all those in favor of redefining the word "MARRIAGE" to include same sex unions. Is it all forseeable that we strike the terms "husbands and wives" from the books as well? We see a move to remove gender related pro nouns from our vocabulary by the elitist educators in our public system. Is that appropriate? Will that confuse the children enough to satisfy them?
Your arguments are the same used by racists when mixed race marriages became a law of the land. Did that in any way change same race marriage? No, it didn't. Remember, less than 20% of Americans were in favor of mixed-race marriages when the Supreme Court decided the Loving case - today, over 80% of Americans approve of mixed-race marriage. When the Supreme Court struck down the anti gay marriage laws, over 60% of Americans approved. In a decade or so, it won't even be topic for conversation because it will be seen as so normal. You're on the wrong side of history, it's a done deal. End of story.
Christianity is most definitely not defined anywhere in the Bible. That’s why there are hundreds of Christian denominations. What you need to realize is what your religious texts say about marriage have no relevance to anyone else other than you. You are free to not marry someone of the same sex. You are precludes by the 14th amendment from banning anyone else from marrying someone of the same sex however.
Your's is the stupid liberal" identity politic "argument. I've explained it before. Never had a single problem with racial intermarriage. It is not in anyway behavior related but you think it gives you some kind of "elitist highroad" to imply I am a racist. Stick to the topic bud if you have any courage. You boast about being married to a "women" for 20 some years but your convictions imply you have nothing against dabbling with the same sex. So.....are you for doing away with the terms "husbands and wives"? You have no problem with redefining marraige. How 'bout gender related pro nouns?
There is one Body of Christ and it transcends denominations. If you read the Bible introspectively you would understand that.
no it doesn’t, as evidenced by the hundreds of denominations. I’m confident I know the Bible better than you do. 12 years of catholic school. The facts remain that what any religious text says about marriage is completely irrelevant. Marriage is a legal institution.
You would have to prove the existence of this god in order to make the claim all marriages are in the eyes of god.
Moronic reply on your part. Nowhere did I said I had any problems with the terms husband and wife. I just don’t have the stick up my butt about the terms husband and husband or wife and wife that you seem to have. That’s not “redefining “ marriage. Still the same legal contract between two parties that’s its always been.
That explains it. There are several recovering Catholics in the Bible study I have attended for 15 years. Have known many recovering Catholics in the non-denominational Churches I have attended over the last 35 years.
I didn't edit a thing. Your fascination with butt sex is apparent in that you have mentioned it twice in two post within 48 hours. It fits hand in glove with the opinions you have presented in this discussion. Anyone can go back and read for themselves. It's all right there.
