No it wasn’t supposed to be rhat The ACA was the concession to the republicans What you need is UHC but there are too many corporate interests with their trotters in the healthcare trough
Whatever it is, we can play the blame game till the cows come home. Bottom line, the system is broken and needs to be fixed, no matter which side does it. Democrats passed it and doubt many read the bill, as Pelosi so famously said "We have to pass it to find out whats in it" Not a single Republican, voted in favor. It was rammed down our throats by the left.
I think the number is closer to 30 million. What is really sad is it's not the system that has the problem, it is people. As was mentioned, many choose not to have insurance. It is not the poor who don't have insurance but working class people. While many may be lower working class, they are working and many could have insurance if they would give up some of their vices. I know people who own boats or all-terrain vehicles, they will go out on weekends and spend their hard earned money on beer, and burgers and gas but they won't buy insurance for their families. While I don't agree with the Medicare for All concept I do think everyone should be required to carry basic health insurance just like they required to have insurance for their vehicle.
well said I know that have had several unexpected health issues One difficult issue is age related cost variation In terms of tru cost, young people should be more healthy and have cheaper insurance OTOH, few people plan their retirement allowing for higher cost health insurance This can be somewhat balanced by charging youngsters more But that plan will be objected to because of higher cost
Well, I'm 39 and asides from this, I am about as healthy as any 39 yo. It's a pickle, no doubt but I guess they must share the cost of pre existing, across the board. And younger folks, rarely have need of the insurance. Charging them more is a sure way to cause them not to seek coverage. I sure cant afford the ACA, even the minimum plan.
most people feel this way, until they don’t. I needed an emergency heart valve with no warning despite having regular doctor exams as i said I do not know your situation. There are lower rates for lower income level btw, you will find your insurance rates go up as you get older. 39 is not old. But you will be surprised how quickly that comes. Do you have plan for that!
Here are average costs I this what you were looking at? https://news.ehealthinsurance.com/news/how-much-does-obamacare-cost
Yes, that is for catastrophic coverage.... cancer, heart attack, etc. although if you ever have a significant problem, you will be astonished how quickly the bills add up. I recently had an issue requiring an ambulance ride of 9 miles The retail price before insurance was more than 2,000 I am not familiar with your plan, but as far as I am aware, the only restriction on specialists except that you need a referral by your primary care doc. I am not familiar with billing for the catastrophic care plan, but all the others pa a percentage of the bill until. Depending upon your plan. The deductible works like this... suppose you have 10,000 in bills for the year. Your payment percentage might be 50%. So your out of pocket would be 5000. But I the bills for the year were 100,000 and you had a 5000 deductible, you would still be out of pocket the 5000 deductible... and after that, 100% covered Yeah, that is sort of like having car insurance with a 1000 deductible.... if you get into a 900 accident, I guess your insurance WAS worse than useless if you got a higher level of Obama care,... you might have paid more premium... but the insurance would have covered 60-90% so let’s say you get a bronze plan and get 60% coverage Then you would have saved 1200. But you might have paid 100 per month extra in premiums.( 1200 ). generally, in my experience if you will likely need medical care... the more expensive plans do not cost more. OTOH, if you are 20 years old, maybe all you need is catastrophic. Coverage but, the reality is that almost all medical problems are unexpected.... so you will almost certainly have unexpected medical problems. And, beyond that, I have found that when you do not have coverage, you are less likely to pay out of pocket to see the doctor.,., which can ultimately be a sensible as saving money by not seeing a dentist be patient... more problems will almost certainly arise. And the first few times you will consider it a non normal surprise. Then, at some point you will realize that you are getting old and stuff happens
Other than Obama, what serious person has argued that the ACA would be cheaper than 2% of your income?
Most people don't plan for medical costs in retirement because, meh...Medicare, but standard Medicare is an 80/20 split. A twenty percent deductible can add up if you have serious health issues.
Yes, and since we know this to be true, some people think that a system could be devised .... like Medicare, or what ever they use in other developed countries as I see it, the alternative is to stand on the MOST IMPORTANT principal... that people should have the choice as to whether or not they will prepare for old age... knowing that in most cases this will not happen Yeah, but it can add up a whole lot faster with a 0/100% split. If I understand the 80/20:structure, the idea is that people should have skin in the game or they will be more likely to waste resources?
I was mistaken, It's a short term medical plan from Aspen. A bronze ACA plan would cost me 496$ a month, right from Healthcare.gov website. Probably should not have said I smoke but lying can come back on you. Since I'm considered single (Fl does not recognize common law) and filed no taxes, I dont qualify for any kind of break.
I was responding to your comment that even a 20 per scent share can add up... by saying I it is mush better than nothing?.. and in any case there is the cap. So your bill will never be more than xx.
I Would not assume that you do not qualify for a break. At least when Obama was president... they wanted people in the plan and were pretty flexible.
I went to the official website and entered my info, that's the price I got. I'm a live in caretaker for my other half who is older and had a stroke in summer of 2017, I have to help, anytime she needs to use a toilet, etc. Without me, she would be in a home, you'd think I could qualify for something.
I would talk to someone in the phone.... although I will admit it can be very discouraging trying to get though to them.... but just keep trying, and keep trying... and keep trying .... you gotta actually talk to someone
