Exactly. That's the point. Decrease the costs of doing crime, and crime will increase. When crime increases those businesses go out of business. Since these businesses are actually just alcohol stores, it's a roundabout way of getting them out of communities.

    That's a really sick idea.

They sell a lot more than just alcohol, and by the way in most of those communities they are the only stores people can buy from, your idea is both dangerous and illegal.

Not sick, just pure rational choice actor theory. Who cares if a few businesses go out of business when it makes the community safer? It's like I'm making an argument against this ban by simply arguing the idea itself is inhumane and relies on treating people as means to an end, rather than an end in of itself. Or maybe I'm just thinking too far ahead.

You're right they do sell more than just alcohol, but that's the problem. They primarily sell alcohol and tacked on food as well to make them "Restaurants". "Think about the reason why bars were so important in the past. They weren't just places to get trashed. They're also there to be meeting places for people to socialize and do business. So by getting rid of these stores, people can't buy alcohol in these communities as easily. When they can't do that, they also take drug trades with them as well. Fewer avenues for drugs to be spread decreases the drug trade. In short, makes perfect sense when the logic is determined.

Clearly a ridiculous proposition. Businesses have the right to protect their employees from America’s gun problem.

Incorrect, they are retail stores not restaurants, try getting your facts straight.

Bull and you cannot supply any facts to back up your specious claims.

Furthermore they are licensed, pay taxes and supply the local community with goods they need.

    It's not a gun problem, it's a criminal problem.

    "
City Councilwoman Cindy Bass' proposal passed Thursday by a vote of 14-3, and Mayor Jim Kenney is expected to sign it into law. Bass' highly controversial bill was introduced in an effort to crack down on nuisance stores selling drug paraphernalia and alcohol in violation of city code.

She said many of these businesses claim to sell hot food in order to obtain liquor licenses, but rarely offer meals, instead perpetuating addictive behaviors and acting as "indoor open-air drug markets masquerading as restaurants.""

"Bass' legislation, which only applies to "large establishment" restaurants with seating for 30 or more, was amended before passage. Under the altered bill, the city's Department of Licenses and Inspections would check for violations in so-called "stop-and-go" stores before 2021."

Unless it's a different bill, this is the stated reason for it.

Right. Criminal access to guns is a problem. But what can you expect when tools for killing outnumber people?

Nothing in the story supports the allegations made, furthermore if they are violating city codes no further laws are needed to shut them down.

The tool is not causing the problem the criminal is what is causing the problem, eliminate the criminal element and the problem is solved.

What do you mean by allegations? I might be missing something.

As for city codes, that would be the issue. They found a loophole by classifying their businesses as restaurants.

Then they are violating the conditions for their licensing and can be shut down.

Allowing the harass those stores which are not restaurants, you really seem to be unable to comprehend what is reported.

Incorrect, if they are operating out the scope of their license that license can be revoked without endangering law abiding store owners.

Your idea still remains dumb and dangerous.

So close to the truth yet you can't see it.

They're not operating out of the scope of their license because they are operating in the scope of their license. They're licensed as something they shouldn't be classified as.

Sorry it cannot be both ways, either they are operating within the scope of their license or they are not.

Right, hence why I'm saying they are operating in the scope of their license. It's just not how they're supposed to be classified based on what they're doing. The license they have, does not accurately reflect the nature of the business.

Then they are operating outside the scope of their license and it can be revoked.

You really don't understand liquor licensing and the requirements to hold one.

I'm literally just quoting the article. This is just the stated reason why. I don't need to know about liquor license when the issue is whether or not they are actually restaurants. If I had to take a guess what laws are being broken, it's probably a time one. Alcohol stores can't sell booze after a certain time, but restaurants can. So classify them as restaurants instead to sell longer. Or who knows? Maybe it's a bar thing. All I have to know is the stated reason why, and trust there's a reason for that.

In other words you have no clue of what you are talking about and are just making things up with no facts to back them up with.

I am literally just quoting an article on this subject about why the law is needed. I don't need to support the argument, I just need to know this is the reason why.

No I didn't. Unless you have another reason for the law was passed, then my quote stands.

Your quote aids and abets criminal activity, endangers law abiding business owners and places lawful business's at risk.

Not a very good or well thought out comment.

Nice deflect. Why was the law passed?
