I forgot to add "ducks and hides" after my comments that I don't think the laws you posted were out of line, i'm pretty hardcore in favor of 2A but I don't think background checks or a 1 gun limit per month is ridiculous in any way shape or form. But when I say that It tends to tick off those that are more hardcore than I will ever be.

As far as sanctuary status, (ducks and hides again) I'm ok with that as well to be honest, I'm not a fan in general of counties ignoring or overriding state or federal laws, but this was a trend that was started some time ago over the immigration sanctuary crap so for me its kind of a tit for tat type situation, if left leaning counties can legally (not sure how but whatever) get around laws by declaring sanctuary for whatever issue they pick off the list then I guess its only fair that right leaning counties can do the same. I think both examples are ridiculous but if its legal then I don't see how that can be overcome except through the courts.

FWIW saying i'm ok doesn't mean I agree, just means that i'm not losing sleep over it.

What would be the point of a recall amendment when it would be impossible to get enough votes to due so. Most recalls require 60%-67% of the electorate to vote in favor.

Although I think simply requiring a 2/3 majority in both houses or passage by enough counties to make up 2/3 of the population and at least 50% of the counties.

Charlottesville, it's always the one and only story the left can come up with. You want to associate gun rights activists with 1 person from 3 years ago that everyone disassociates with and try to tie him to the right when we never wanted him. How come the left doesn't use BLM or Antifa as justification?

The left will be citing Charlottesville long after we're all dead and buried - just like they do with slavery.

Just being nitpicky here but I disagree, First I'll state I do not like that friggen nazi's are marching through the streets but there would have been zero issues in charlottesville if the dam counter protesters weren't there to stir the pot, IIRC that march has been going on for many years without any incident until the opposition showed up to stir up trouble. With that said, I refuse blame a group, even if they are a bunch of pricks, simply because one individual did something terrible in a moment of rage.

For me its an isolated incident by one deranged individual and it should be treated as such. There are other examples where the left has agreed with me on this (dallas police sniper, scalese shooting for starters), so cherry picking when and where to blame the group vs the individual simply doesn't work for me.

The governor of VA sadly underestimated what would happen when he promised Michael Bloomberg that if he could help flip the VA legislature he would sign any Bloomberg wet dream anti gun bills. Apparently the legislators are getting the message that a couple of cities close to the swamp that is DC does not represent the majority of counties in VA. Already a couple of new laws on that list have been removed.
Sorry for your fear of firearms. Take a course and educate yourselves. Our range has converted hundreds of women like you and they now enjoy training and carrying on a daily basis.

You wanna know why the violence in Charlottesville happened?

Because Governor McAuliffe and Mayor Singer refused to take the measures necessary to prevent violence before, during and after the rallies. In my opinion their gross negligence was criminal, because their dereliction of their most important duty - maintaining public safety and order - enabled a neo-Nazi nut job to kill a young woman and protesters on both sides to turn downtown Charlottesville into a war zone. ALL of that could have and should have been prevented. I've been to demonstrations in DC that were much larger and spread over a much greater area and there was none of the violence people saw in C'ville.

agree 100% in principal, but with that said, I don't think the limitations discussed earlier are over the top.

I've said this before, the issues with gun violence could be reduced dramatically by addressing the core issues and none of VA's ideas are even considering the core issues. We don't have many shooting in my county, and even less in my city, but when we do have a shooting you can be pretty safe putting money on two specific zip codes being where it happened, better odds on that than you'll ever get in vegas even if your sitting on a 20 with the dealer showing a 6.

The Democratic legislature doesn’t seem to be very popular.

If I recall correctly, they only require a simple majority, but I could be wrong.

Needless to say, it's not in our politicians' own interests to pass a recall measure, and I certainly don't see the current GA passing one.

    That legislature might change.

For political junkies reading the tea leaves, these gun control measures are bringing a lot of people off of the political sidelines in Virginia and they're being actively encouraged to make their voices heard in the next elections. The incompetent and clueless boobs in the Virginia GOP surely must be thanking Democrats for this gift, because they have resuscitated their moribund party.

I'm also interested to see if and how this impacts national politics and whether or not it will produce a ripple effect across the country...

that's more info than I previously read.

not in agreement with the list, but parts are fine, when I'm not on my phone I can elaborate why. but its obvious which ones I'd have a quarrel with.

    • Requiring background checks on all gun sales and transactions: The bill would mandate anyone who sells, rents, trades or transfers a firearm must do a background check on the receiver of the gun before the sale or transfer is complete. As it stands, gun shops and federally licensed dealers selling at gun shows must perform such checks, but sales that take between two citizens — at a gun show or elsewhere — are exempt.
yes, but transfer for plinking or hunting no.
    • Banning “dangerous” weapons and accessories: That includes what gun control advocates call assault weapons, along with high-capacity magazines, bump stocks and silencers, like the one used in the Virginia Beach mass shooting. Northam hasn’t defined what “dangerous” or “assault” weapons he wants to ban.
    hell no, pending list.
    • Limiting handgun sales to one a month: A similar law was on the books from 1993 to 2012. Buying more than one handgun in 30 days would come with up to a 12-month jail sentence and a maximum fine of $2,500. Those wanting to buy more than one in a month would have to apply for it through the State Police and undergo an enhanced background check.
    sure
    • Requiring lost or stolen firearms to be reported to police within 24 hours: The punishment for not reporting, according to Sen. Jennifer McClellan’s bill, would be up to a $250 fine.
    seems trivial, ok.
    • Allowing Extreme Risk Protection Orders (“red flag” law): The bill would allow law enforcement and the courts to temporarily take someone’s firearms if they are deemed a threat to themselves or others. Several states have passed varying versions of red flag laws.
no major issue but fear overreach
    • Barring people under final protective orders from having guns: Right now, the law only says people who are under final protective orders of family abuse cannot have firearms.
    sure
    • Making it illegal to ”recklessly” leave loaded, unsecured firearms around children under 18: The bill would raise the age from 14 to 18 and raise the punishment from a Class 3 misdemeanor, which comes with a $500 maximum fine, to a Class 6 felony, which comes with a punishment of 1-5 years in jail and a maxim $2,500 fine, for adults who “recklessly” allow kids to be around loaded, unsecured guns in such a way that might endanger the child’s life.
questionable but ok, depends on wording. I get it, dont be leaving no guns on the coffee table, done.
    • Letting localities regulate whether guns are allowed in government buildings: Virginia has a law that says cities and counties can’t make their own rules when it comes to allowing guns in government buildings. One Republican lawmaker filed a bill this year that would allow localities to ban firearms if they had security provisions in place, such as security guards or metal detectors. Del. Cia Price, D-Newport News, filed a bill that says localities may regulate guns.
    sure.

I'm good with the last measure but I'm reserving judgment on the rest. As you correctly pointed out there's a lot of vague language being thrown around and we don't know what precisely is going to emerge from the General Assembly and Coonman's desk.

And then the court challenges will begin...

Typical post. Wallace has nothing to do with this discussion. But since you brought him up, I have to mention that Wallace was a Dem.
