Sounds suspiciously similar to Mulvaney's "get use to it." The polls show 70% of the public favors additional witnesses and documentation. Ignoring that majority may not sway the trial, but I think it will definitely sway the 2020 election. If the electorate believes the GOP is trying to rush through this trial without witnesses or documentation, then the GOP Senators vote to block such only at their own re-election peril.

Hard core Trumpees aren't enough for him to carry the 2020 election. That 70% of the public poll result on additional witnesses and documentation looms large.

Depends on what specifically they say and if there is other evidence to show perjury.

If the defense is making a claim of immunity (or not willing to testify which is every defendant's Constitutional right and which apples in every criminal justice case, but is not even up for grabs in a congressional investigation) then the prosecution is obligated to address that separately before coming to trial. No prosecutor worth their salt would go tail between its legs and crying a river before the judge.

You're right. He's confusing confusing "in secret," with "closed session." Republican members of the Committee were in attendance and given equal time for questioning the witnesses.

My understanding is that there is no excuse in not responding to a Grand Jury subpoena. Once present, he individual could respond to questions with either the 5th amendment protection and/or executive privilege. There is no pre-appearance, blanket immunity and to they and establish such would be an enormous expansion of Presidential powers. I would suggest the Senate sitting in trial of the President, upon impeachment, equals the powers of a Grand Jury.

Fortunately in our system public opinion does not determine judicial processes or outcomes. The framers and founders were adamant about that. But the public can vote anyway they want for any reason. That is how president's constitutionally get removed. An overthrow of the executive branch by a politically motivated rogue House was one of the framers greatest fears about the long-term survival of the republic. They just could not find a simple clear way to contain it.

If I have to explain the meaning of "secret" to you there is no hope.

Interesting perspective. I guess you missed the fact that impeachment is CONSTITUTIONAL.

The greatest fear for the republic is a president who flaunts the law and abuses his power in an effort to retain it. He got caught trying to cheat in the elections and you think its a democratic hoax. How typical.

    HOWever..
"Defense", "prosecution", and the issues elated to same, do not apply here.

Congress and the President are co-equal branches of government; because of this and the separation of powers inherent to same, the President can legally respond to a congressional subpoena with a claim of executive privilege.

Congress can then press its rights in court, which may or may not compel the President (et al) to answer congress's subpoena.
Until the court so rules, the President's claim of executive privilege is legal.

It's cute how you think there's some pro forma process to assert executive privilege.
Refusing to, or refusing to allow someone on the executive branch, answer a subpoena, is, inherently, a de facto assertion of EP.

And I demonstrated why the poll doesn't mean much.

I have researched Rasmussen's methodology enough to convince me of my opinion.

Yes, of course, because the will of the people only counts when you're for Trump. That's what you're saying in essence.

There's a reason the bar is set at 67%

For the removal of President after impeachment by the house.
There are several instances in the US system where the majority does not rule - by design.

Every lefty is convinced of his own opinion. When they "poll", they call their friends and ask if they agree. Any poll that does not tell them what they think is right will be seen as being done with political bias.
I assume there are no mirrors in lefty-land, because they are unable to look at themselves with any honesty at all.

The bias of the left is not obvious- only about as much as the full moon on a clear night. It is virtually universal, and used so loosely that it destroys their credibility on everything. That's hardly a wise thing to do- but their bias is so dominant it blinds them to the reality of their own actions. Denial has been worn thin to the point of total transparency too. One might deny a certain cloud look like a rabbit, but when it comes to denying a skunk sitting on your shoulder.... nobody is dumb enough to buy it.
