I seriously don't know what point you're trying to make here.
Unintended, and yet easily predictable. And yes, it happens all the time that liberal regulations and policies backfire and blow up in the faces of the leftists who vote for them, because leftists are apparently incapable of logical aforethought, or learning the lessons of hindsight.

    When progressive idiocy meets reality.

    https://www.marketwatch.com/story/a...ks-fixes-for-freelance-journalists-2020-02-06

And now they're scrambling to try and fix what they broke.
And here's a classic progressive solution to a problem of their own making.
    Throw taxpayer money at it!

Because there's no progressive disaster that FREE MONEY! can't fix.

Is there any reason they can't continue working part time? Is that now illegal? I don't believe it is.

The law is just one less way that companies can exploit their employees.

They'll get hired back; just scare tactics from the company and I hope that the employees do unionize.

What leads you to that conclusion?

    I work a full-time, non-union job for a living, and I've done so for over 25 years.

And? What's the significance of you personally not using a service that multi-millions of people use every day?

I think you're totally confused about the two parties. Democrats are for intervention and big government. Democrats want to take more and more of your hard earned dollars.

Republican (libertarians) are for WAY less government intervention and smaller government. The power should be in the states, not the federal government. Republicans are for lower taxes. You know, keep more of your own hard earned money.

From what I read it's going to blow the whole thing up. Took a ride thebither day and asked the driver what he thought andnhe said the government needs to keep it's nose out if it it's between him and Uber and he likes the freedom and flexibility he has now.

Why? They work as independent contractors and like the flexibility and freedom that affords them.

Yeah, but that's only in reality. In progressive fantasyland, all those drivers are now unionized, making $15/hour and they get full bennies and gold cold healthcare insurance. All the laid off freelance journalists have joined the Local 502 Union of Unemployed People, and they're raking in the big bucks too.

I wonder how many children died of starvation when they lost their jobs? Or how many were sold into prostitution? Or how many became beggars? Or how many became criminals? Or how many hid their age? Or how many took more dangerous underpaid and illegal work for the street gangs? I wonder what ended child-labor, the productive genius of the capitalists, or the emotional blackmail of the power-lusting altruists?

Ayn Rand: “Never mind the low wages and the harsh living conditions of the early years of capitalism. They were all that the national economies of the time could afford. Capitalism did not create poverty—it inherited it. Compared to the centuries of precapitalist starvation, the living conditions of the poor in the early years of capitalism were the first chance the poor had ever had to survive. As proof—the enormous growth of the European population during the nineteenth century, a growth of over 300 per cent, as compared to the previous growth of something like 3 per cent per century.”—http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/capitalism/12.html

More CA insanity, it basically makes being an independent contractor illegal. This will be challenged in court.

That's what the company says but how do we know that it wasn't because they had a lack of work? If they laid off the people, who would pick up the slack? What's to say the company already planned on not hiring them back anyhow and the law was perfect timing so they used that as an excuse. Non-union companies can do whatever they want to with their employees and sub-contractors without any recourse.

To prove that not everybody is dependent on a service that others claim is necessary.

Republicans grow government at the same rate democrats do. There are no libertarian republicans that are currently in office. Republicans are for lower taxes for their donors, and increased deficit spending and debt. They do it every single time they are in power.
