I would say the second half of the 1800s was pretty good also. 'Capitalism' is Marxist terminology, I prefer the term Free Enterprise System, which isn't an 'ism' but is a natural pattern of human behavior that's been around as long as man has in which goods and services are voluntarily exchanged. There is no workable alternative, the folks who just want free stuff notwithstanding.

Yes, most of that due to poor financial habits. We should be teaching handling money in school instead of PC.

This is laughable. There's no way the child of middle-class/poor Americans has the same economic opportunity as some trust-fund baby. Did the college admissions scandal not teach you anything?

88% of millionaires are self made.

Poor people need to stop believing LW lies that they are oppressed and held down, and instead see what rich people do and imitate them. Success leaves tracks. Amazing all the immigrants who come here with nothing barely speaking English who end up wealthy, while we have generations of Americans on the public dole. It's supposed to be a safety net, not a hammock.

Nah, human nature would have them go after the real thieves, the politicians and bureaucrats--killing the golden goose won’t cure poverty, stopping the egg-sucking weasels will.

Taught me better to work and become rich, instead of doing nothing but whine about being poor. It’s been said by many: Want to help the poor? Don’t be one.

When concentrations of wealth and power get too obscene, countries tend to fall apart. People expect the rich to have it better than them. That's nothing new. People don't like it when the rich have it insanely better than them, which is how it is now.

That is awesome advice. Want to avoid heart attacks? Don't have one. Want to help starving people in Africa? Don't be one. I'm so glad I had a choice in being born American! I totally picked the right country when I was floating in the ether, deciding what kind of life I wanted to incarnate in to.

Unfortunately, **** happens in the real world, and most Americans are one paycheck away from eviction. About 45% of Americans don't own any stock at all. It's tough out there. All the "can do" "you can lift yourself up by your bootstraps" bullshit that you hear goes by the wayside when you're fired from your job after a car accident and are now on the hook for $30,000 in hospital bills.

But you have to treat them as full time employees during the time you hire them.

Why should I like or dislike it it has nothing to do with me nor my situation. Should we prevent them from having insanely large businesses as we now happen in the global economy? Should we reject the founding and constitutionally guaranteed right to our private property and to earn as much as we want?

Where in the Constitution do you find that dividing line? Thomas Jefferson said, "To take from one, because it is thought his own industry and that of his fathers has acquired too much, in order to spare to others who (or whose fathers) have not exercised equal industry and skill, is to violate arbitrarily the first principle of association, "to guarantee to everyone a free exercise of his industry and the fruits acquired by it."

The only duty of government is to guarantee equal opportunity. There will never be equal outcomes. Everyone talks about income inequality, what about the work inequality?

There's actually a lot you can to do prevent that, diet and bad habits are responsible for a whole lot of our diseases. I suspect most people who had heart attacks spent a lot more time watching TV than they did studying good health.

Here's my anti-poverty program: Finish high school, don't do drugs, don't have a child out of wedlock, and get a job - it's easy in the Trump economy. If you do those things you have a very small chance of ending up in poverty.

Ah, I see you’re metaphysically stunted. Best of luck.

What’s the difference between a flaming liberal and the ignorant? Give up? No worries, I can’t tell either.

When the personal attacks start, you know you've won the argument. Good day.

When the companies they work for aren’t union companies. There’s no law that states a company must be a union company. You can thank immigration for that one. The only strong unions left are in the service industry in gaming. Thats because the casinos want very strict and thorough checks on all their employees. Usually requires fingerprints, internal background checks, FBI and NACI checks, and a stool sample. Kind of hard for an immigrant on a work visa much less an illegal to get the security clearance to work at any capacity in the gaming industry.

    Who said they did?

You are so caught up in what other people have that you cant think rationally about the simple concept of a labor market.

I am good friends with a guy that grew up poor, didnt go to college, and owns a successful landscape business with about 15 crews.

I grew up middle class and own a professional design firm.

Are you attempting to claim that people shouldn't have a "me incorporated" attitude?

Just hire illegals and pay 'em cash. If they complain about anything call ICE.

Then get a job where they don't treat employees like rented mules. My hip went south and needed to be replaced. I was out from January till May. When I came back and went to the office with my return to work order, you'd think Prince Charles just walked in. They all warmly welcomed me back. Of course I work hard for my employer and they appreciate that. Maybe the guy in the car accident was a royal pain in the butt and a lazy schlub too. Maybe they couldn't wait to dump him for any reason. Even lousy companies know who their good workers are.

~ Some do not want to be an employee but rather like self-employment/independent contractor status. This is another step on individual rights by big government .
    Nobody "wins" ...

Quick question: Does this law affect real estate agents? My wife has said they are considered independent contractors and considering how big a business that is, it would affect a great deal many people and businesses.

    Real estate agents were exempted.
Lot's of professions were exempted, and the selection of what professions would, and what professions wouldn't, be exempted was all done willy nilly and seemingly at random, as one would expect of wacky ideas cooked up by lunatic California leftist politicians.

More and more exemptions are being granted now that the law is in effect, and the havoc it's wreaking unfolds.
