Our Constitution is being shredded as we troll.. As far as I am concerned the Republican Senators self castrated the Senates role in government. Stop the Dysfunction in Washington!

    _____________________________________________________________________

Attorney General William Barr has issued new restrictions on opening investigations into politically sensitive individuals or entities, including a requirement that he approve any inquiry into a presidential candidate or campaign.

Barr outlined the new policies in a three-page memo obtained by NPR as the Democratic primaries are underway and the country gears up for November's presidential vote. The memo was first reported by The New York Times.

Barr's new restrictions follow a sharply critical report from the Justice Department's inspector general on aspects of the FBI's Russia investigation, which began in the summer of 2016 during the presidential campaign and continues to ripple through American politics four years later.

Basically, Barr is saying this: If you wish to investigate the President, you first need permission from the President's henchmen.

Sorry, Mr. Barr, but Congress has authority to investigate and you have no authority to stop that.

Or, he's saying that the top level of management no longer has the excuse of not knowing what was going on.

That will sure put a stop to sham investigations.

And yet, Trump still manged to completely block a great portion of the investigation into Ukraine and Mueller....

Barr should be gone in January with the rest of this slime...

The concept of checks and balances doesn't work when the Senate is full of Trump kowtowers.

Barr is part of the executive branch. He has no authority to hinder the legislative branch from performing its duties.

So there can still be sham investigations by Congress.

Not really. It's not a "sham" just because you don't like it or just because the guy being investigated calls it a sham.

Of course your hypothetical would be true.

Regardless, so long as this new rule remains in effect, the Attorney General will not be able to claim that he didn't know about a sham investigation into a presidential campaign.

These are guidelines for the DOJ, whose investigative arm is the FBI. It has no effect on Congress or States' Attorneys.

It sounds like these guidelines are meant to avoid the abuses of the Obama DOJ and Comey-led FBI.

The Senate is not actually full of them, but one is still one too many...

Hopefully, my friends in Maine, Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, North Carolina, Iowa, (and Alabama) start that process this year..

This is the mindset that created the trump putin hoax that was proven to be BS.

You are trying to keep a lie alive .

Is there a way to shun such people? For they can add nothing of value to discourse . No intentional deceptive person does.

It would be cool if there was a secret threshold. It would have to be secret to keep people from conspiring. They could have a secret rule where the most people on "ignore" were banned.

Well the house is doing everything they can to mess with the Trump administration. They are ttempting to do anything negative against him even if they are hurting the country. The democrats asked for this with their ridiculous unconstitutional trolling.

I'm not seeing where he's telling Congress that they can/can't investigate? Perhaps you can point it out to everyone else?

Where exactly is The Constitution being shredded here? Shouldn't the upper echelons of the DoJ know about possible major investigations and what's going on with them? Isn't it kind of their job to know about such things?

Does that mean you oppose the concept of jury nullification? Cuz thats what the Senate did. For Trump, and for Clinton.

What investigation into Mueller? I hadn't heard of any investigation into Mueller???

Or do you perhaps mean "block a great deal of the investigation BY Mueller"?

If that is the case then you're spreading false info. Trump ordered everyone to fully cooperate with Mueller, did not once assert Executive Privilege, and provided all documents requested by Mueller.

The only thing Trump didn't do was give a face to face for an interrogation. That's it. Which is smart considering every lawyer and prosecutor and cop with any integrity will tell you not to do that if you have any choice at all. Mainly due to entrapment caused by spin by the interrogators and plain ole forgetfulness that everyone has.

You are correct... I meant the Congressional investigation into the Mueller report... tried to shortcut that long phrase with just Mueller. My bad.

What I'd like to know is why they want to investigate the Mueller report beyond the actual report itself. I thought that they trusted Mueller. They were given an almost fully unredacted report even. It was less redacted than any other investigation of a President in history even. That alone shows the length that Trump and Barr went to in order to accommodate Congress (read Dems). The only things that were redacted were those things which the law required to be redacted, laws that had been put in place due to all the shenanigan's that Nixon pulled. Laws that are meant to protect the innocent. Yet the Dems act as if 99% of it was redacted.
