Full Title: Survey Finds People Who Identify as Left-Wing More Likely to Have Been Diagnosed With a Mental Illness

Quite interesting. The data they collected is interesting. But considering how many videos are out there of people who at least lean left screaming and throwing fits or assaulting those with MAGA hats its not much of a surprise. Will this lead to further studies or will it simply be dismissed outright?


Carried out by Slate Star Codex, the online survey collected a wealth of data from respondents about their education, demographic, lifestyle and political views.

The results show that people who occupy the farther left end of the political spectrum are more likely to have been “formally diagnosed with depression, borderline personality disorder, bipolar disorder, or schizophrenia.”



In addition, the results show that the highest percentage of respondents (38%) who admit being diagnosed with forms of mental illness also identify politically as Marxists.

In comparison, just 12.1% of conservatives say they have been diagnosed with a mental disorder.

Fairness considerations fundamentally affect human behavior, but our understanding of the nature and development of people’s fairness preferences is limited. The dictator game has been the standard experimental design for studying fairness preferences, but it only captures a situation where there is broad agreement that fairness requires equality. In real life, people often disagree on what is fair because they disagree on whether individual achievements, luck, and efficiency considerations of what maximizes total benefits can justify inequalities. We modified the dictator game to capture these features and studied how inequality acceptance develops in adolescence. We found that as children enter adolescence, they increasingly view inequalities reflecting differences in individual achievements, but not luck, as fair, whereas efficiency considerations mainly play a role in late adolescence.

This is not a shock to any sane person.

The Democratic Party has become mental in so many ways. Hell, their front runner is a damn Socialist and they support men in bathrooms with little girls.

I don't find it surprising at all that people who identify as left wing are more likely to have been diagnosed with a mental illness. Particularly the far left, which reports the highest number of folks with mental illnesses. I don't think it's so much that far-left folks tend to have more mental issues, but rather that folks with mental issues are more likely to find the radical left's agenda appealing.

It's also interesting to see that the "sanest" of all are the right-of-center folks.

 

I think that anyone who has nothing better to do than take extremely long surveys has a screw loose.

Other studies do not make flawed uncontrolled online polls relevant.
A flawed study is a flawed study irregardless.

 

This phenomenon has been researched for years around the world.

They find similar conclusions.

 

Which ones? It is an interesting narrative that I haven’t looked into — but the one posted in the op is a joke with zero controls.
