    Why would he veto it?

What happens when Iran makes a nuclear warhead? Would the president have to get Congressional approval before he can defend Israel or Europe? Would this end enforcement of current sanctions on Iran?

Of course he will veto it.

It only passed with 55 votes and they need 67 to override.

    And, they won't override.

    End of story.

This is basically a symbolic vote that's pointless. Congress of course, has the full authority to authorize war, and the commander has to appeal to Congress for that authority. It's already enshrined in the Constitution. The US did not act in concert of war. It acted in concert of two authorities: The War Powers act of 90 days, and the 2002 authorization against terrorism.

Or is the Senate willing to give up the war on terrorism?

    Exactly.

It was a "symbolic vote" and you make an excellent point.

That's kind of funny the same Senate that was in his pocket just a couple days ago is now clipping his wings.

My how they shift back and forth fast.

When we killed their general/terrorist, it was a military action that took about an hour. That's hardly a "war".

Meanwhile, we've been in Korea for 70 years without a declaration of war.

It was a justified action, but it wasn't a war.

Sure, and who gets to decide what 'justified' is?

    We do.

Every nation has the right to defend itself. That general/terrorist had killed approximately 620 Americans and he showed no indication of stopping.

And not one of them was in the USA.

They were in the ME where they have no right to be. Matey, lets me tells you....if 'you' used your military muscle down here, I would do the same as that bloke who defended his turf from an interloper.

Defend them from what? Do you realize how many nations have nukes?
The only thing that stops a bad guy with a nuke is a good guy with one — that’s similar to a motto I frequently hear from many here.

every prez has had the ability to strike against an enemy or threat, without notifying congress, as long as the campaign is less than 60 days.

obama did the same thing, and when mitch found out about it he congratulated obama, as did all of america...

the only reason the left is whining, is due to their hatred of trump & using it as a campaign slander for the upcoming election.

iow, the dnc is deceiving their base, yet again...

We could take Australia in 15 minutes. But of course it would never happen.

Iraq was paying the families of suicide bombers $25,000 for killings in Israel, our ally. Hussein has to go - with or without WMD.

Why is the Iranian military in Iraq? If the general/terrorist had been in Iran, he’d be alive today.

I would not want any President to sign this into law.

If Iran launches a nuke on the U.S. or Israel, then the President has to wait for Congress to decide our response? Not a chance on this earth!

Seems pointless since we aren't at war with Iran.
