We have separation of church and state, not faith and state.

The UK has a state church, does that bother you?

Interesting you think our government should be run on Jesus' commands.

    Pot, meet kettle.

    Islam maybe?

Jefferson was a flake among the founders when it came to religion, although I wouldn't even call him a deist. Here's some quotes you missed:

Nothing they have done in West Bank over the last 30 years has had ANYTHING to do with defending themselves.

You don't build walls to capture river valleys thus cedeing the high ground as a method of defence.

What is happeing is pure ethnic cleansing in order to steal the property of the rightful owners.

And, that is an internationally recognized humanitarian atrocity.

    Hilarious.
Of course not. Their government is secular as they want it to be. They also have a Queen. I'm OK with that, too.

I'm somewhat surprised that the church agrees to that. But, they have an ancient tradition of state involvement in the church.

Separation of church and state is one thing we brought with us from England. Our colonies ignored that, of course, but when we formed a nation, that division was reassserted.

Israel was commanded to do these things even when it wasn't in self defense. I'm glad you believe God/Jesus changed his mind about being evil and reformed, turning from his murderous ways.

Just as you are willing to ignore the evil parts of the Bible, there are plenty of Muslims willing to ignore the evil parts of the Quran. I embrace you both in that enlightenment, but make no mistake, it is the same.

Nothing in the New Testament was predicted in the OT. It's all misinterpretation by Christianity. The OT is fulfilled in Jewish history.

I don't agree with you on Jesus being a prophet of peace
Why he order his followers to buy swords and to kill people don't believe in him.

It is the critical distinction - without which, understanding of many Middle East issues is very difficult. It then begs the question - why ? Why Santa Clause - (hope you get the Grinch Reference) Why Media - why didn't you teach the citizens about this distinction.

Take the conflict in Syria as an example. The Islamist hates individual liberty - hates the dreaded "Secularism" - authority of Gov't coming from "consent of the Gov't" - as opposed to coming from God - "Divine Right" . The Islamist wants to force religious beliefs on others through physical violence (Law) - Strict Sharia.

Taliban, Al Qaeda/Al Nusra, ISIS (Al Qaeda in Iraq), Boko Haraam, Al Shabaab - the extremists in Pakistan, India - the Russian "Stans" - and various other groups around the world - all share the same Saudi Inspired - Sunni - Salafi/Wahaabi radical Islamist ideology.

They share the same dream - Sharia Theocracy ruling the world. Syria is a Secular Nation (as was Iraq under Saddam). The Western infidel is one thing. Secularism in a ME nation is a cancer from within.

There was no sharia theocracy in Syria - banned by the Constitution. Women wear skirts and proper bathing suits - no need of permission from a man to get an education or a relative to go with you when you go out. Your head will not be chopped off for adultery or socializing with a man - not for apostasy - not for homosexuality.

When you do go out there is drinking alcohol and dancing in bars. There are Christian Churches and relative freedom of religion. Assad has Christian Generals in his army - 50% of which are Sunni.

The people fight for Assad - not because they like the guy - but because they don't want the Islamist's to turn Syria into a Strict Sharia Nightmare.

The protest movement had moderates in the beginning but in a short time the radical Islamist's took over the movement - telling Christians to either join the protest movement or leave the country. https://www.christianpost.com/news/...om-anti-government-protestors-in-syria-50104/

Shortly after conflict broke out in late 2011 it was clear that radical Islamists were running the show - Al Qaeda - Islamic Front being two of the larger and more dominant groups which did most of the real fighting against the Syrian Army.

Tens of thousands of radical Islamist foreign fighters heeded the call to Holy Jihad. The US led a massive global effort - involving near 20 nations - to arm, supply and support this Islamist proxy army. You don't fight a Nation State with AK-47s.

In a short time the Islamist's took over almost all the cities in Syria - Imagine you were one of the residents - waking up one morning in your new strict sharia nightmare - dark age style - pics and video's of atrocities all over the internet to show the glory of this new Caliphate. Rape, Forced Marriage - and no end of other atrocity.

These were our allies - our rebel proxy army in Syria - fighting against the Evil Assad.

I don't care about Assad - I do however care about the moderate freedom loving people of Syria - and supported their fight against these radical Islamist's that wanted to take those freedoms away.

By late 2013 the caliphate was functioning as its own state - many groups - and foreign fighters - coalesced under one banner - and an Islamic State was declared (IS) - ISIL/ISIS.

At this point the moderates had been gone for a long time and the movement was led by Al Qaeda/Al Nusra - and ISIS (Al Qaeda and Al Qaeda) there were a few other groups here and there but these were of the same ilk and affiliated to one of the main groups.

Still we supplied these nut jobs with tens of thousand of tons of sophisticated military equipment. 500,000 dead, refugee crisis, war crimes, crimes against humanity. The History has already been written - Obama's legacy will take a hit for Syria.

And that is one of the great mysteries of the Gospel.
My take is that Jesus allowed his disciples to take that
course of violent resistance, and when they began to
do so he stopped them, and healed the injured man.
This provided imagery, over and above mere words,
that the kingdom of God is not about violence. All things
are in God's hands and you trust Him.

Thank you. One idea that scares me as an individual is that Social Darwinists view people who can not produce as lacking value.

Your ridiculous premises are rejected. Israel had a right to self defense, and to the Promised Land God gave them. They were told to drive out the inhabitants, only those who refused and made war on Israel were attacked. There was no genocide, see the book, "Did God Really Commit Genocide?" by Copan and Flanagan.

What evil parts of the Bible? Jesus harmed nobody, nor did He tell anyone else to, unlike the bloody 'prophet'. Jihadists are simply following his word and deed.

If the only examples I gave were ones of Israel's self defense, you might have a point. You don't. Because those are not the only examples I brought up. I don't care about what your cult book says. The evidence says you are wrong.

Provided. You know, the ones you desperately ran away from and couldn't address?

You might be able to make that argument . . . if you hadn't said that Jesus was the God of the OT . . . who definitely did harm people and order people to do so, not just in self defense.

Unless you are going to condemn your own scriptures, your religion is no different from Islam.

Most of that number are from starvation from poor government planning, not direct murder. There is simply no way atheists could compare to theists in total numbers in that regard. The difference here being is that no atheist here is going to defend "going bonkers and killing" people over doctrinal beliefs. Meanwhile, Christians and many other theists are stuck arguing that this at least USED to be okay, even if they now claim their God's former actions are evil and that he has reformed.

No it doesn't. Be specific, at least what post # you're referring to.

See above. Rather like ignored out of boredom, coming from someone who isn't a sincere seeker.

Those 'people' were the OT theocracy of Israel, which doesn't exist anymore. They were under attack by God haters then, just as now. Your dodge noted of my question when Jesus said to do that.

Except one is committing an average of five terror attacks a day and one isn't. Wanna guess which is which?

You've got it exactly backwards, I know you don't want the truth, but "The Black Book of Communism" will explain the victim total to you from your fellow atheists. Stalin at one point was killing I believe 30,000 a week, some by starvation. In the entire history of the Spanish Inquisition something like 20,000 died, and that was directly contrary to Jesus' prohibition of that in the parable of the wheat and the tares. He said to the disciples, don't you try to separate them on earth, God will do it at the last judgement. Take an atheistic idea like communism with no moral standards, the idea man is a cosmic accident with no more intrinsic worth than a dog, and no eternal rewards and punishment, and mass murder happens.

Sure they did, I just finished a book on the Spanish Civil War, where the Communists there did exactly that, purge those on their side not ideologically pure enough.

None are saying your gross mischaracterization.

Amalekites. 1 Samuel 15. God ordered slaughter of children. Not in self-defense. And you claim Jesus was the one who ordered that OT theocracy, so either it was good it it wasn't. Which you will never answer. The best you have to offer is "Everything ISIS does not used to be okay, so long as it was in the name of my God and not theirs, but my God later changed his mind about being evil." Adorable.

TL:DR - your scriptures say God told people to murder kids. If you believe Jesus is God, then Jesus also ordered the murder of kids. This ain't rocket surgery.

You are arguing that they have no moral standards while promoting a God with even worse moral standards. Cute.

Do you seriously need me to explain what the word HERE means? Also, your own scriptures order the death of those who are "not ideologically pure enough." The best you have to offer is that your religion only USED to be as evil, but has since reformed. Cute.

Then I congratulate you for rejecting your evil scriptures. I was under the mistaken assumption that you believed in those scriptures. I'm glad you don't.
