It's gotten this bad. The respect for the rule of law by the administration is gone. He's not got the Judiciary pissed off and someone should remind him he has 3 cases comming up in March before the Supreme Court.
Put Manafort in solitary? Absolute bald faced lie. At the request of his lawyers Manafort was accorded a private room with a window, TV newspapers and several hours of social time. He's right in that Al Capone never got such luxuries.

I really hope the Judiciary ramps this up...large. As you say, while Trump might head the Executive, he does not have the right to direct how your Justice system must function.

At least 2 of the Supreme court cases March 31st should be slam dunks 9-0 against Trump. One might get some dissent but should still go against him.
Perhaps he's trying to discredit the judiciary in general so he can claim that they have it in for him?

The AG should not have a say in any cases handled by his department.

Who should, and why have an AG?

What can they even do? Sounds like collusion in judiciary to undermine the executive branch...

Quick, call an emergency meeting, the 2 tier justice system is in danger. If we don't act now, Democrats could start being held accountable to US laws...

It's like this story was pre written... where has this group been and why have we never heard them speak up before? Guess everything was perfect before now.

The left is saying Barr should keep his nose out of DOJ matters.

Actually the left is saying Trump should stay out of DOJ matters and that Barr needs to stop speaking and acting like he's Trump's personnel lawyer and start acting like he's the AG.

Which is what has the judiciary concerned. When even the pretense of equal justice under the law is abandoned the whole system fails. Cases are not brought to the justices by themselves, US attorneys bring them and if they have to look over their shoulders for a presidential attack they lose a great deal of their efficiency. Federal judges are right to be worried where this is headed.

They seemed totally fine with obama and Holder. And Clinton meeting lynch, total pass. Now they speak up. I think they are the ones who are biased.

First, Barr decided to review the sentencing recommendation the day BEFORE President Trump tweeted. Any suggestion otherwise is a false narrative. Trump has never interfered in any prosecution according to both Sessions & Barr.

Second, The president as Chief Executive has every constitutional right to intervene. The DoJ doesn't even exist in the Constitution, nor does any federal inferior court. They are creations of Congress. Presidents since Washington have initiated investigations, stopped investigations, and given clemency & pardon. It's nothing exceptional.

Well a private association of judges ain't the Judiciary. It acts with no legal authority other than the legal right to assemble and voice political opinions.

Was Clinton president? Was it a prearranged meeting? Can you give an example of any president since Nixon commenting on a DOJ prosecution or sentencing other than to inform of their existence?

First, when your child says he was just going to do his homework after you tell him to do it do you believe him and never bring the subject up again?
Second, is is very much the exception since Nixon for the very reasonable desire for the DOJ not to be politicized and the president appear to be ethical about their investigations and prosecutions. You are right in that unethical behavior is the norm is this administration.

    He was

I'm sure you believe it was just a coincidence...

Lynch was in charge of the Hillary investigation then met with her husband in secret and gets a total pass. That's why I don't take anything anyone who defends it says seriously. It will make me look dumb if I did.

    Yawn.

Y'all act like judges are some special unbiased God-like superpower, but they're as human and political as everyone else, no matter how much I hate that fact.

I have a friend who is a federal judge. She's as rabid of a Trump hater as the farthest fringe leftwing nut on this board, she just doesn't share anti-Trump memes on Facebook, rofl. Oh, and then there's Ginsburg. While judges ought to be neutral, good luck with that. The best we can hope for is that when they're acting as judges, they're as neutral as possible, but the rest of the time? Ha. Good luck.

Wise to move the meeting up from April given the unprecedented bully tactics by the media and members of Congress on the DOJ

If Barr calculates the punishment at 3 years (based on aggravating and mitigating factors), and his prosecutors are asking for 9 years, does he have the right to step in and change the prosecution’s recommended sentence?
