Shall this restriction be applied to politicians, celebrities, corporate CEOs, other wealthy/famous people and all their bodyguards?

If not, can you justify why the rest of us should be restricted by law from protecting ourselves as well as they can? How is this equitable? How is this not making the rich and well-connected even more priveledged than they already are?

The main argument that you'll hear is that those types of folks are way more high profile than "you" thus more at risk than the average no-name person. Same reason why even in Western 1st world nations with strict gun laws their high ranking officials have armed bodyguards. And why even the Pope rides around in that bullet proof glass thing.

And that these bodyguards are "professionally trained" with firearms and therefore less likely to produce collateral damage than the average gun owner.

To be fair those arguments do hold SOME weight. Not that I agree with it but lets be honest, Justin Beiber or Donald Trump has a much greater chance of getting their ass kicked by some random person if caught walking alone in public than "I" do. Them being more at risk than me doesn't exclude me from protecting myself by any means, but it does sort of make sense why these folks can't walk around public without protection.

I walk around society completely unarmed most of the time and feel completely safe because I'm just a random dude who would only be attacked as part of a random roll of the dice scenario at best. High profile folks like celebrities and politicians are not at risk for random robberies or something they are at risk for assassinations. There's a difference.

Yes, I'm familiar with and understand that dynamic. Which is why I asked the questions that I did (none of which are answered in your response). I didn't ask what the reasoning was, rather how its equitable. I imagine you're mostly playing 'devil's advocate' here. I am to a certain degree as well by pointing out that these restrictions, if not applied as I laid out in OP, do not promote equality (neither equality of results nor even equality of opportunity), but in fact make the elites more able to exercise their rights than the rest of us. A dynamic that those who most vocally promote gun control otherwise tend to claim to abhore.

...the same dynamic which I suspect has lead to you being the only responder ;)

You aren't important enough to have the means to protect yourself - the state will take care of that for you.

So far doesn't seem like there is anyone on this forum who wants to ban civilian use of all semi-auto firearms.

I presume you're referring to only banning certain types, like ARs and similar weapons, correct?

If so, would you agree that such restrictions should apply domestically to the private firms that protect the famous, wealthy and well-connected?

Incorrect. I'm not personally saying guns should be banned. I merely pointed out so far doesn't seem like there is anyone on this forum who wants to ban civilian use of all semi-auto firearms. I thought that was pretty clear.

And yet the individuals who do wish such, do not shy away from making their voices heard in other discussions.

And perhaps they can't answer the questions posed in the OP. Or perhaps they don't like the implications the questions present.

Since there supposedly 'isn't anyone here who wants to ban semi-autos' yet you still felt compelled to participate in a discussion addressed specifically to those that do... what, if any, further restrictions do you or would you support?

Nope. It would seem we agree more than disagree on the issue.

I prefer to take care of myself, not for the state to take care of me.

Nah, they just want to render them useless by restricting the magazine capacities instead. Actually you need to ask your gun grabbing pals where it all ends, then you'll see the truth...

I don't consider my 10 rounds to be "useless". Still no one in this thread who is looking to ban all semi-autos. Glad to see it.

All gun grabbers want to ban semi-autos, they just don't have the courage to say it out right. Instead they want to nickle and dime our rights away with nonsense infringements.

10 rounds may not be useless, but that's only one of the many restrictions. They have gone as low as 5. That would make most revolvers illegal...

Maine and Oregon have 5 round limits for hunting on semi-automatics. Aside from that, I know it has been proposed for handguns, perhaps not yet implemented, but it has been suggested already, which means it will rear its ugly head over and over again until some idiotic city or state enacts it...

I didn’t think anywhere had a five round mag capacity for handguns. Ten is the lowest I’ve heard

The state of New York attempted to limit magazine capacity to seven rounds of ammunition, as it determined ten rounds was the new high capacity amount that was unacceptable for private citizens. When it discovered after the law was passed, that few firearm manufacturers actually produced seven round magazines for their firearms, the law was amended to stipulate that private citizens were not legally allowed to load more than seven rounds of ammunition in their magazines, regardless of their capacity.

Not making a case for or against. I own a semi auto hunting rifle.

But, why would not any ban/restrictions/etc include all people?

Unless there is a special license/permit for certain industries or jobs?

Anyone not capable of taking down their game in 5 rounds, should not be hunting.
Or should not have been shooting at that game in the 1st place for they didn't have adequate enough shot and just started throwing lead. IE, dangerous to others.
