First I'm putting this thread in the suction because it does have to do with civil rights.

Those of you who could fit into some of these minority identitarian groups but don't follow the politics of them will know this very well.

But this is more for the mainstream. Not that I don't want people in the minority identity to comment on this.

I was thinking earlier today about the gay community. Mostly how they seem to be monolithic from The outsiders perspective. And I was wondering why that was, and it's because of the old adage the squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you want attention paid to you make noise.

So what did I mean in a title. What is minority blackmail?

It is the idea people who could fit into these identity groups somehow owe the creators of them their allegiance. The left currently loves to take credit for ending slavery, or the Civil Rights act. but if we look at it historically that's not the case. This is the way minorities are blackmailed into voting.

I've experienced it. By not agreeing that the borders should be flung open for everybody who wants to just waltz into my country I am the equivalent of an Uncle Tom in the gay community. And because I'm reaping the benefits of the privileges that the left has championed (same sex marriage) I should therefore agree with everything that the left does. I should support some of these LGBT versions of the Civil Rights act. And if I don't I'm voting against myself interests and I should be scorned not because of my political views but because of my sexuality. Gay men are supposed to agree 100% with the Democrat Party.

That's not how it is. If you get to talking to gay people trans people lesbian people bisexual people that may even vote Democrat, they don't really support Democrat platforms. They're either doing it or maybe even just saying it to fit in. Because everyone knows that loudmouth that will tell you to your face that you're a hypocrite and how could you go against the party that fought for you're privilege to be married to a partner of your choosing, they'll tell everyone that they know about you and if you're in a small dating pool this kind of crap can alternate you. I've seen this happen in churches and in small communities as well.

I'm sure everyone has experienced this in some way or another regardless of your identity. Maybe it's an idea that you have or the viewpoint that you hold.

So what are your thoughts on this sort of thing?

I would say this is certainly one dynamic of sociopolitical group pressuring.

I have more disagreements with the “left” than I have agreements, especially on gun rights, fiscal policy, special rights / identity politics and immigration but have never been insulted or called an uncle tom — maybe it is your tone? Now on simple disagreements with the “right” the insults and lies seem to fly at a staggering pace...

I do admit that the squeaky wheel gets the grease however.

Party ideology is the worse thing to happen to this nation in my opinion.

Despite what some poster insisted with me the other day humans are predators with a mutant brain tied into hyper intelligence. This makes even the nominally sane among them just a little bit mentally wonky all the time. Now to that add, pack animals. I guess because we are naked apes with hardly any meaningful ability to climb, hardly any sense of smell, bad hearing, and only adequate ability to see -- those of us not needing corrective lenses and so forth and so on we HAVE to congregate in packs in order to be safe. All of this is biology and genetic hard wiring. What it means to contemporary humanity is that we tend not to think about any of that stuff as we are going about our lives, but still they either control or heavily influence us at our root.

The Gay community for instance, the hint is in the name . . . community. As pack animals by nature we must adhere to the general rules of the community -- at least where it can see us -- or risk being ostracized. Think of it as peer pressure with teeth. Yes it amounts to blackmail but it is also a survival mechanism. The group is more important -- on the whole -- than the individual because without the group all of those individuals are entirely on their own in regards to survival -- this can be survival of the mind or the body or the social amenities or the pocket book or a combination therein.

Now for the predator and the hyper intelligence part. Remember that for most people none of this involves conscious thought regarding the origins or the whys or where-ofs. It's natural, it's instinctive. You do it or you go elsewhere to some other group or you become a loner. The intelligence part puts the kinks into the social organization parts. Or in other words there is a compulsion to always make things more demanding and stringent and controlling on the members simply due to the hyper-intelligence part which loves complicating things more than being laid back and letting things go with the flow. The predator part? That's the simplest part of all. No mercy, no exceptions, no wriggle room, and no individuality outside of rigid standards mercilessly enforced.

So what can any group member do? You can either gain sufficient power inside the group to begin altering the community standards -- which is usually a lifetime commitment. Or you can smile and nod your head and then in private go your own way. Even if when it comes to politics you dare not admit to your peers what you really believe and nor whom you are going to vote for they have got no way of really knowing who you finally did vote for inside the little booth and nor -- if you are very, very careful who you might have secretly worked for on your own time to help get elected.

That second part there, however, can lead to personal disaster if you get found out; and so best in that case just to grin and appear to go with the peer flow and then do your own thing on voting day. Ironically it is the equivalent of being or of returning to the closet in a group that purports to HATE having to do that. But that's reality. Sometimes reality is so full of irony that it leaves behind a great deal of bitterness. But so it goes.

But it's not just disagreements that I'm talking about here. It's the idea that I owe allegiance, because the society advanced. The idea that I am Uncle Tom or disagreeing with them about anything. I encountered this on the right but it's strictly religious people.

It's not just the religious, although that is a majority within the right. For these vocal minorities it seems that only conservative or liberal are choices, ignoring others such as libertarian, combining parts of each. Heaven forbid if you are fiscally conservative while also being socially liberal.

You are a typical outlier. You really aren't statistically important enough, and your vote sure is not important enough, to bother 'blackmailing' you. You should logically be ignored.

Yeah but I'm not. So this suggests that I'm dangerous. There is a reason that I'm not ignored.
