You can do even better, by transforming those raised beds into weaking beds, even more better if one uses a 1/2 inch electric conduct and forms a hoop house over it and puts clear plastic cover on it.
I harvested my first strawberries today and I am still in winter with snow on the ground, very yummy.

Slugs, get some small paper cups and fill the with beer, they love beer so much they drown in them.

You need to get yourself desperately updated, the borders in the EU are closed, everybody gets checked. Miles and miles of vehicles standing at the internal borders.
80 miles at the Brenner. Like the good old times when we had border checks.

Alternatively you could use a sugar and yeast solution which I have found works better than beer. The only problem is that slugs are really attracted to the sweet smelling solution and will travel quite a distance. So you are not just killing your own slugs but also the neighbours.

it is thus getting a tad warmer...so...and here is my cunning plan....I was thinking that with the supermarkets being sold out of goods and all that spare refrigeration capacity they now have we could store all the bodies in them when the hospitals run out of morgue space...:hiding:

Well, the way you have been going on we have more or less decided that in the not too distant future, we will all be pushing up the daisies, so we thought it might be best if we swapped a few gardening tips.

I was consulted by our local health professional today. masks are just a partial help, because the virus can not only get through nose and mouth into, but through your eyes, too.
Safety goggles, or even better a faces shield are needed, too.

No that isn't true. I was just listening to one of the Dr's treating people in Italy. The second most helpful thing he said was to wear a mask. It does however need to be a N95 for protection and a medical one if you do not want to pass it on but a medical one will not protect you from getting the virus whereas and N95 will give a lot of protection. I don't know about Canada but the US apparently went on and on about how these masks would be no help and I think the UK went on about them being needed by others. Problem was these countries simply did not have enough masks. Masks is one of the things which the countries which have kept themselves pretty free of deaths and infections used. They are one of the best protections you can get though as gnob said you can also get infected through your eyes and of course you need to keep your hands super clean and even wash with soap and water things like tins of food you buy.

True, but I was in Sainsbury's today and saw a young Asian couple get down to some serious snogging. They were both wearing masks but did not let that cramp their still. But I suspect they might have felt that face masks and goggles might be taking matters a little too far.

Mask and gloves are innefective because you'll instinctively reajust it throughout the day. You'll also be depriving a healthcare specialist from needed protective gear due to people like you buying all the available stock. Glove, if not removed properly will also not protect you.

The best protection is to stay away from others.

Well, I get my info from medical experts, not online blog. And Canada is doing a good job so far in mitigating the effects, both medical and financial, of this pandemic. Better than many europeans countries or the USA.

N95 masks protect people. People who try to put people off wearing them are courting their deaths. End of this discussion.

You're so busy trying to be always right on this forum that you can't even admit that health professionals know more than you. This is quite sad, especially now.

What do you mean the way I have been "going on?" Have I been saying that you're all going to die?

Johnson is taking a slow approach compared to other states but he decided to close down all schools in the UK. Probably London will be locked down in coming weeks, where most UK cases are reported. The best way to deal with the crisis is to close down Heathrow and stop the flow of international travellers altogether. Britain is already out of the EU and it is not obliged to keep its borders open for EU nationals.

The UK remains subject to EU law doesn't it?

and you are so busy always with the personal attacks that you are worth nothing.

Masks work. Where they have been worn they reduce infection. Just tonight an Italian Doctor was pointing out that they are one of the best protections. It is a shame that propaganda has stopped some people in the West from using them and likely is one of the reasons we are being hit so bad though most people here seem to be self isolating.
