There's no point closing the schools and leaving the shops open, you'd only have a bunch of teenagers flocking to the malls. They have to do both.

It’s a no brainer to shut schools.
What the hell! Did you see Bondi Beach? That place was packed full of school children and now they have the potential to now go and infect all their mates and school teachers. Under the new lockdown laws these children won’t be able to hang out in shopping malls. Infecting a whole school community would be the icing on the cake.
Close down bloody schools until they can isolate where this disease is. The exponential infection rate would go through the roof during the viruses incubation period.
Morrison needs to find new advisers or some sh!t because keeping schools in makes no logical sense! Attempting to extrapolate Singapore’s action is ludicrous because the dynamics and demographic is completely different!

When Gomer compares Australian schools with Singapore its a false comparison because Singapore
is temperature testing every child when they arrive at school....we are not, so the comparison is false...
The advice about 30% of the kids having parents in the health system is absolute garbage...
Gomer has stated that individual parents can make the decision to keep their kids at home if they
so desire...call me old fashioned but isn't that passing the buck Gomer...
Blind Freddie can google census stats for any town in Australia and observe that the percentage
of kids in that town is X and the population is Y...to say that 30% of these kids have parents in the Health System is garbage....
Gomer is a one trick pony and his only trick is being able to talk underwater with a mouthful of marbles..
His sidekick Frydenberg (also known as Rosco..after the Dukes of Hazzard character) is no better...
    They are both pretenders.....

Keeping schools open is a really bad call.

A good idea would be to keep a primary school open with minimal staff in every district/suburb and allow the children of essential service workers to go there if no other option is available.

Holidays are in a few weeks anyway, bring them forward and see how this play out.

Well the kids who aren't at home need to be. Troops need to be deployed on the streets to get people to self isolate.

Absolutely, and Singapore has a population of 5 million in a land mass 12k times smaller than Australia. I’m lost for how this clown used them as an example. Other places that closed down schools with bigger populations were also successful. Them poor bastards on the front line in our schools are potentially putting theirs and their families lives on the line due to the close proximity they will be to potential infection. You can forget social distancing with small corridors and classrooms. I just shake my head.

Troops on the street is a drastic measure. Look, people just need to look at others like they’ve got the disease. Keep as far away from others that you can be. Stuff the 1.5 metre, make it 10 metres lol.

My daughter asked me yesterday if she can please keep going to school for as long as they'll let her.

Many of the whingers and complainers in this thread probably haven't watched a single one of the PM's press conferences where he lays out all the reasons for the steps they are taking.

Schools will close at the peak of the pandemic, this could be for many months... the earlier they close the more of children's education is lost.

So what if a year of school is missed.
This isn't something we can pretend we can press thru trying to keep things as they were.

I have a child in year 9 and I simply told her to expect year 13 to be a thing for many school students.

They wouldn't even need guns. Just some scary guys in uniform to tell people to piss off and go home. There are not enough police to fill the roll.

The Queensland Teachers Union will go on strike on Wednesday if the state grubberment doesnt
    close down schools......
If children miss a period of school, they are able to catch up.
I was employed in Canberra in the 80s and when I returned to NSW my three sons
were 6 months behind in their cognitive development and schooling due to the pathetic education system in Canberra at the time. My youngest son was nine months behind in his reading ability. After a period of about two months which involved extra homework and schoolwork done at lunchtime, they all caught up.
Im not saying this is ideal, but there are methods available for children to catch up on missed
schooling. My example above was before the internet arrived....

Students missing out on their education for a period of time is absolute nonsensical in current climate. It’s not ideal but it is what it is. As you say we have the greatest resource available to keep things rolling the best we can.......Internet.

I don’t think public schools are resourced enough to offer on-line learning currently, therefore should be making schools pupil free to allow teachers to work on developing on-line learning.

A teacher relative stated that confusion and anxiety was running high today. The parents and students who are taking this pandemic seriously have remained at home because they don’t know where other students have been outside of school hours. The students who remain despite being provided with all the information related to hygiene and safe distancing are inadvertently disregarding all recommendations. Teachers are attempting to provide appropriate distances in classrooms but during recess and lunch are sitting and interacting pre-pandemic. These students have to travel on buses to and from school to boot.

Teachers and their families are left feeling exposed to potential infection more than anyone else.
Anyway, what do health officials know about the day to day logistics in the Australian education system. I guess teachers are apparently too uneducated to be consulted on with the issue.

Morrison couldn’t act appropriately during bushfires and now he expects people to just accept something that absolutely defies all logic.

I'm so glad no one in this thread is leading the country.... imagine having to try and pull people together with all this whinging... it's divisive at the least. Probably wrestled someone down in the toilet paper isle last week

Well thank you for sharing your thoughts on the massacre in South Africa. I wouldn't want to hear you whinge if you had to deal with the problems they have to deal with...

People are spoilt brats in the west, they live in luxury and complain about their governments endlessly while billions of dollars are thrown at them.

Then turn around and tell people being burnt alive and tortured for days they should stop complaining....
    you're showing your colours Billy

This is for you billy... here's the things South Africans complain about while you get your handouts

So now Im a spoilt brat as well as a whinger….South Africa is a mess...a toilet...always has been and always will be...
Im not saying they should not complain about being burnt alive and tortured for days....Im just comparing your criticism
of me being a whinger, but it seems OK for you to whinge...youre a bit hypocritical aren't you....
I find your views quite intriguing as a family member of mine was once dating a woman originally from South Africa.
Her father called him "white trash"....which from my experience, is quite normal for South Africans to have that opinion
of "white trash"...anyway...this discussion is a no win situation...goodbye....

    sw,
not sure why you hold on to Scomo.
He is not a leader, he proved disastrous during the fires and at least to me, shows the same kind of missing qualities in dealing with the virus. No one I know would trust him building a canoe.

    Because

    a) unlike you I see a PM who is working very hard for Australia
    b) I believe this is a time where we should be standing together and using this pandemic for political point scoring is self serving,

Get outta town. Every PM we had would have been working their rings off at a time like this. It’s ludicrous decision making that wreaks of incompetence. This fool failed to close our borders earlier knowing full well this disease was coming in internationally and now we are supposed to trust this fool with leaving schools open. Wake up SW. He has Health officials making calls around logistics within an education system of operations. It makes not a skerrick of sense. This fool will kill us all with this dumbarzse decision making before too long.

What’s more he has stuffed up the whole economy. Small businesses would most likely still be operating and we’d be attending the footy and enjoying drinks down at our local watering hole if he had stopped international flights immediately.

T... we've never experienced anything like this before so you don't know that, personally I doubt Malcolm Turnbull would have been able to grasp the average Australian's plight from his Ivory tower.

I think you're just looking for someone to blame and making a punching bag of Scott Morrison. Now is the time for us to rise to the occasion, not sink to new depths.

That's a good idea, considering we're facing an approx 16% unemployment rate.

Here's a notice we received from our school Monday, schools will close in Victoria but will provide care for children at risk... not all children are so fortunate to be safe at home, or have a carer at home.
