The full details have yet to be released. But over the last 24 hours, the elements of the proposal have come into sharper focus, with $250 billion set aside for direct payments to individuals and families, $350 billion in small business loans, $250 billion in unemployment insurance benefits and $500 billion in loans for distressed companies.

It looks like Mitch manned-up and caved-in.

    Good for him.:flagus:,

Everybody KNEW that Nancy would get some prime concessions.

The devil will be in the details, of course.

I knew that nearly all of the griping and political posturing in public by Republicans was just a way to fill the air and make their supporters believe that they were working while the real negotiations took place behind closed doors.

The next step will be to see if this can get passed by unanimous consent in the House. That is, of course, very much in doubt because any one of the 435 members could object for any number of reasonable grounds and thereby force a delay, at a minimum, and a full blown compromise process and then re-vote by both chambers.

Now's a time for the politicians on both sides to ignore politics and serve the nation this much needed relief.

Big Government, redistribution of wealth, money to those who don't pay taxes, picking winners and losers in industry, don't let the market decide, no invisible hand, no offsets.
Please remind me why people on this very right wing leaning board have been screaming bloody murder to get this bill enacted IMMEDIATELY. :)
I'm a democrat, so these seem like a normal solution to the problem (that is why I would respond that Trump is doing ok in his response to covid despite his early blunders. Solid B- )

Good deal. I wouldn't typically be a fan of this magnitude of spending, but it's the right move considering the situation. Businesses, individuals, and more importantly hospitals are all getting stimulus. There appears to be extended protection for those who're laid off, etc.

Now stay safe and stay inside!

I bet there is a 50/50 chance Pelosi is offended and feels cheated and throws a monkey wrench in the works. She might feel like Schumer stuck it in her back by robbing her of her power by removing her name from the deal. That would be cool.

I wonder what happened to all that pork that Pelosi was demanding went. The airline provisions: carbon offsets, corporate board diversity, climate change study, Retirement plans for community newspapers, $300 million for PBS and Tax credits for solar and wind energy, just to name a few. The angry old white gal is gonna be pissed.

Note that this is in stark contrast to the GOP's efforts after the 2009 recession to cut unemployment benefits. Supposedly, we couldn't afford them back then. The real reason was that they wanted to harm the recovery under Obama, to make him a one-term president.

She's on record asking for a voice vote for this.

She wants it to happen NOW

    Very true.

Pelosi suggested on Tuesday that she is hoping to avoid bringing the full House back to Washington to vote on the package, seeking to pass it through unanimous consent instead. But any individual member can block such a move, creating uncertainty over whether that will be feasible.
Another option may be for the House to approve the package by voice vote as opposed to holding a recorded roll call vote.

    Another GREAT Provision:

The stimulus bill also has a provision that would block President Donald Trump and his family, as well as other top government officials and members of Congress, from getting loans or investments from Treasury programs in the stimulus, according to Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's office.

She has already said she is going to try and pass it via unanimous consent. That implies that she personally consents.

    Exactly.

Everybody KNEW that Pelosi's "Entire Wishlist" wasn't going to happen.

    Everybody KNEW That.

But, she obviously got a LOT MORE than she would have gotten had she done nothing.

I am happy with the Final Rendering of the Bill.

    Political bartering it's finest.

    Huh? Not true.

Under the plan as it was being negotiated, individuals who earn $75,000 in adjusted gross income or less would get direct payments of $1,200 each, with married couples earning up to $150,000 receiving $2,400 -- and an additional $500 per each child. The payment would scale down by income, phasing out entirely at $99,000 for singles and $198,000 for couples without children.

I agree with some of it, but I am sure this new deal has to be better than the bill Pelosi proposed which had stipulations like

    NO VOTER ID for Ballots
Permanently raises the minimum wage to $15 for any business that receives federal aid for COVID-19.
$35 million to the JFK Center for Performing Arts
$25 million for cleaning supplies for Capital building (see on page 136)
Mandates how states must run elections, including the nationalization of ballot harvesting, requiring early voting, same day registration, and no-excuse vote by mail. This way, democrats can mail in their own ballots for everyone.
Requires all airlines that receive assistance to offset carbon emissions for domestic flights by 2025.
Permanent changes to who can serve on corporate boards of directors for companies that receive assistance for payroll and operating costs.

    ^Lol at that "Wish List".

Much of that never had a prayer.

Still, Pelosi got many MAJOR Confessions, and it was a good deal for the Dems.
