President Trump's re-election campaign sent cease-and-desist letters to local television stations on Wednesday, threatening them with legal action and potentially their broadcast licenses if they continue to air an ad from a Democratic group, Priorities USA. The ad plays audio of Trump downplaying the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic over a chart of the mounting number of cases in the U.S. — now at more than 69,000 — but the Trump campaign objected only to one clip, of Trump saying "this is their new hoax."

    https://news.yahoo.com/trump-campaign-issues-cease-desist-042600766.html

You can watch the targeted ad and the non-targeted Biden ad in the link above. The key difference is that the Biden ad visually shows "Trump calls CoronaVirus DEMOCRATS 'New Hoax;, with the audio just having Trump say Hoax (which couldn't have been hard to find).

The targeted ad doesn't mention Democrats, just shows the words "The coronavirus" then "This is THEIR new hoax" backed by Trump saying those words. (Caps mine)

I think this action by the Trump campaign is a YUGE mistake anyway, because the difference between the 2 ads is too subtle to be grasped by most.

    "This is their new hoax"

"This" is obviously meant to be the CoronaVirus
"Their" is obviously meant to be the Dems
"Hoax" is his go to word which means nothing to anybody but him.

The key element is that Captain Vague called something a Hoax, when it clearly wasn't (either the virus itself or the Dems treatment of his response to it)

Bottom line is that while the Priorities Ad can be construed as being slightly more misleading than the Biden Ad, neither is really violating any standards here.

    Thoughts?

Donald Trump is angry. The Democratic Super PAC Priorities USA assembled an ad that features the sound bites of Trump and Trump only, and guess what? Turns out he’s an unhinged maniacal liar who’s gotten everything about the coronavirus wrong. That may not be news to you, but it is apparently news to Trump. And his dangerously factless musings on the coronavirus over the past several weeks have not worn well.

    https://www.dailykos.com/stories/20...ant-sound-bite-of-his-mad-coronavirus-musings

    -------------------------------------------------
How can he object to assembling HIS comments? Is this in ANY way legal? Should Democrats be able to use Trumps words, in their campaign?

Tell us how they misused his words, as it is the ONLY defense?

In the same fashion the news media deliberately misquoted Donald Trump to make it appear he said white supremacists are good people?

Pretty pathetic when all the Dems have left is to keep spinning "hoax" ---- even as everyone left, right, and center has debunked the way they've taken it out of context.

But if you can't find anything legitimate, sure, keep dusting off "hoax"

Do you think MAYBE Trump should weigh his ill concieved words? Should he have a minder, instead of acting like NEro, who offed everyone that told him boo?
IN what EXACT way, after watching the video, have they twisted his CLEAR statements? FOR EXAMPLE, line by line?

    The statements in question.

    This is their new hoax
We have it totally under control
Its one person coming from China
One day, It's like a miracle, it will dissapear
When you have fifeteen people and within a coupla days is going to be down to close to zero we really think weve done a great job in keeping it down to a minimum.
I like this stuff, I really get it. People are surprised I understand it.
No, I don't take responsibility at all.

Here are his statements in question. Which ones and how, are they not being used in the way he spoke them?

    Lolwut?:roflol:

Trump has got to be DREAMING!

Cease and Desist? Is he Serious?:roflol:

So? All of a Sudden,Trump HATES the First Amendment?

This is especially COMICAL in light of:

Trump, His Cronies, and Pro-Trump Super-Pacs, Russian Bots, Macedonian Troll Farns, and Places like Breitbart have spent YEARS selectively Editing (and Mischaracterizing) the words of Trump's Opponents

Poor Lil' Bone Spurs, he can dish it out but he can't take it (so Lil' Donny throw a tantrum):

Trump fans be like: You can't use Trump's own words or actions against him.

Trump cheats on his first wife - doesn't matter. It's in the past.
Trump hires porn stars to cheat on his current wife - doesn't matter. It's in the past.
Trump declares bankruptcy multiple times and stiffs his sub-contractors - doesn't matter. It's in the past.
Trump gets played by the North Koreans - doesn't matter. It's in the past.
Trump spends $115 million in tax-payer money to play golf - doesn't matter. It's in the past.
Trump negotiates with the Taliban and hands over Afghanistan to them - doesn't matter. It's in the past.
Trump claims the virus is contained at fifteen people - doesn't matter. It's in the past.

    The list is endless.

Not much to defend Trump with these days. His supporters normally pointed to the economy, something that's only marginally his doing in the first place(just like it is for every president), as why he's been so great but you can't really do that right now.

But then, truth and Trump supporters have separate bedrooms so they don't really see much of each other, if at all. One could even say that Trump supporters have been self-isolating from truth for the last 3 years.

    Yeah.

And then, Biden stumbles for 3 seconds and they spam the forum with 10 threads about it.:bored:

Anyway, this "Cease and Desist" letter will serve no other purpose than to pique the curiosity of anyone who hadn't already seen it.

Thus, MORE People will see it now. And this entire inane "strategy" will BACKFIRE.

As ALWAYS, Trump (and his people) not thinking things through.:smh:

It's targeting the undecided voters in the middle - that 15% that will swing elections.

You can't judge effectiveness by polling the Pro-Trump people or Anti-Trump people - their minds are already made up.
The Pro-Trump people are so emotionally invested in Trump at this point, that no amount of negative advertising
    will change their minds.

I hope he sues, soes the dems can do DIsCOVERY.

Discovery, in the law of the United States and other countries, is a pre-trial procedure in a lawsuit in which each party, through the law of civil procedure, can obtain evidence from the other party or parties by means of discovery devices such as a request for answers to interrogatories, request for production of documents, request for admissions ...

The Upper Courts have already ruled that Trump infringed on First Amendment rights when he tried to ban people from
viewing his Twitter feed ... I imagine this will go the same way.

Fact: Trump has been doing such a tremendous job even Biden says he's going to vote for him.

What misquote? He said that there were "very fine people on both sides." One of those "sides" consisted of white supremacists, therefore he did, in fact, call white supremacists "very fine people." There was no misquote. If he meant something other than what he said, he never bothered to clarify.

Trump does not need the media's help to make him look like a childish, bumbling ogre. He does that himself. It's who he is, and has always been.

    Hey? I have a Solution:

Trump just needs to KEEP Mentally-Deranged, Feeble-Minded MOUTH SHUT.

That way, he won't have to worry about Whining every time that his infantile Brain Diarrhea gets well-deserved scrutiny.

It's desperation because it's the only platform they have for this election. The peepee tapes investigation went nowhere. Pointing out that he had two scoops of ice cream on his cone didn't go anywhere. Making fun of him eating Big Macs didn't go anywhere. Making fun of his wife's shoes didn't go anywhere. The "peach mint" didn't go anywhere. Blaming the virus on Trump isn't going anywhere. Hell, they picked Clinton last time. They are grasping at straws and look what they got.

Now that's the picture of desperation.

Trump is the idiot who only knows a handful of the best words, hoax apparently being one of them.

Don't blame the D's for blasting it off the tee that Trump set it on...

Any actual comments on the thread topic? Just to mix it up every now and then?

There was no 'misquote', you're very wrong. "You also had people that were very fine people, on both sides.". No, there were not 'very fine people on both sides', absolutely not.

With those words, Trump assigned a moral equivalence between those spreading hate and those with the courage to stand against it. There was an evil on display in Charlottesville unlike anything this country has ever seen. The last time white supremacy was on full display in the United States was in the 1930's. It was Donald Trump that gave legitimacy to it and allowed the seepage of white supremacy and racism back into the mainstream of our society.

Just because you support him does not give you or any other Trumper the right to change, modify, or interpret his evil words in whatever way you wish, just to make them appear to be less dangerous and hateful.
