Maybe she is using the total cumulative number of cases and not the current number of active cases.

Every single rural area of Germany, without exception, is reporting infections. COVID is especially showing up at horse-farms.
EVERY SINGLE COUNTY IN GERMANY, without exception, is reporting infections.

    Facts. Facts. Facts.

Once again, for those hard of hearing: since we have no idea how many people are asymptomatic, but we know from surveillence testing that it must be a huge number, it is eminently logical that COVID is also in rural areas. Maybe not in the same strength. But it is there.

Hell, in the highest village in Switzerland, with no road where a car can get you up there, there is COVID.

I read that China actually documented the first case of an "unknown" virus November 17th. That means that the virus was likely swirling around from November 1st, just no one died for a few weeks. So November through the shutdown January 21st....almost 3 months, while they invited and encouraged the masses of annual world travelers for the Spring Festival through most of January.

They need to shut down their wet markets and either stop letting people purchase bats and wild animals for food, or set up stringent meat inspection and testing for viruses and other bacteria. They should have done that with the first SARS virus less than twenty years ago.

Germany is MUCH smaller. Also, I don't believe that every rural area in Germany has COVID 19. There's no way to properly document or test that.

I just noticed that Syria has reported all of 5 COVID-cases.

Syria, with hundreds of thousands of refugees, fleeing from a dictator, living in close quarters in tents.

And somehow, Syria only has 5 cases.

    Laughable.

That's the thing about autocrats. They lie. Alot.

Oh, yes there is. And it is fully documented.
And the size of the country has nothing to do with the fact that rural areas are also infected.

Woah...much closer to South Korea? No. Not even remotely. South Korea initiated a massive testing regimen immediately.

I've got to leave for work. I skimmed the article quickly, but will read when I take a break later today.

I would expect that a lot of the world recorded a numbers of deaths as "the flu" or "pneumonia" before we had verified cases in countries outside China.

Wrong. Size of the country does matter. Much more rural communities in the US because there's way more land. Germany is tiny in Comparison.

I have my doubts about the majority of people...with people in my city out and about on day three of a supposed "lockdown". My job is considered "essential" but I only notice about a 25% decrease in traffic on the roads....and then there are the "swimming pool people" who are off work, but won't stay home.

People act responsibly after all the hospital beds are full and they have tents set up for extra morgue space. People aren't scared silly yet.

I saw this article that writes about the same article, written at Talking Points Memo.

    https://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/this-is-very-important-from-italy-please-read

But for those who want to see a visual picture of the finding.

    upload_2020-3-27_9-59-18.png

The blue line is the average number of deaths in the town for that region. The green line is the number of deaths reported to Covid. The red line is the number of actual deaths from all causes.

The theory from this author is that these are not all Covid cases, but that people who face life threatening issues are unable to get adequate care because of the health system being overwhelmed from Covid.

South Korea hit 1000 cases on February 25th. The US hit 1000 cases on March 10th.

South Korea has a recovered percentage of 50%. The US has a recovered percentage of 1.7%.

IMO trust and verify. Gov Cuomo is now questioning whether lockdowns are the best strategy.

What do you mean "so what"?

That is truly important information vis-a-vis recovery rates. Extremely important.

"So what" is not an argument.

Sometimes, personal observations are merely anecdotal, but sometimes, they can be very helpful.

You say that where you live, you notice a circa 25% decrease in traffic.

Where I live, from what I can see, hear and sense, it looks and feels like well over 80%. Germans are taking this deadly seriously.

As for whether or not people are scared at this time, I would say that that is likely a very individual issue.
