"As The Coronavirus Crisis Heats Up, Why Isn't America Hearing From The CDC?"

"At a time when the nation is desperate for authoritative information about the coronavirus pandemic, the country's foremost agency for fighting infectious disease outbreaks has gone conspicuously silent. The CDC normally takes the lead in outbreaks, ranging from the 2009 flu pandemic to Ebola to the lung injuries caused by vaping"

"This has never happened before. In the nearly 75 years that the CDC has existed, in every single infectious disease outbreak the country has dealt with, the CDC has been central. Though represented behind the scenes on the White House's coronavirus task force, the CDC hasn't held its own press briefing for reporters in two weeks."

"Meanwhile, various members of the White House task force have taken over the job of informing the public. Much time is spent in briefings on economic or political considerations like legislation or the performance of the stock market, with questions often being answered by the president or Vice President Mike Pence."

"At the White House briefings, science and public health questions often get addressed by Anthony Fauci or Deborah Birx. The two, both doctors, seem to walk a tightrope of trying not to annoy the president while deftly attempting to temper some of his more optimistic assertions"

    https://www.npr.org/sections/health-...g-from-the-cdc

Pretty obvious what the answer to that question is, Trump ain't going to let some expert on the virus get up in front of the American people and tell them something that Trump doesn't want Americans to hear, not because it might scare Americans, or they wouldn't understand it, but because it might make him look bad. Trump wants a framed and manipulated message that he can completely control regardless of the facts

Dr. Fauci should be the face of COVID-19 for the administration. Politics has absolutely nothing to do with it. He was an apolitical man until we got ahold of him.

He is a man who is not trying to scare you(just to do it) or mislead you or sway you in any way about politics. He is a steady voice that we know will give us THE news, not a distorted version of it. He will tell us the bad things. He will tell us the good things. He will tell us to the best of his ability what we can and cannot do, both in our personal behaviors and we as a nation. He will tell us what we should or should not expect.

Trump can handle the political end of things in his usual manner. Dr. Fauci should be the one informing us about COVID-19.

Trump needs to have his "the hero they deserve but not the one they need right now" moment about himself and let Dr. Fauci take the helm on the virus, publicly.

Colorado here people are ignoring everything coming from the government.

I work for am essential retailer and people are coming in mostly for non essential products.

So the CDC can yell all they want about anything. It's the American people who aren't listening. The spread of this thing is on us not on the government..

Which is why he or Birx answers any medical related questions..

More listening to the briefings and less opinions from NPR...

The CDC is too busy dealing with a virus outbreak to do public relations.

A number of baseless and biased speculations in the opening post that make it obvious OP isn’t about the CDC, or trying to understand what the large number of labs are investigating. The message of the OP is to launch the last Trump damning sentence on those little informed and too lazy to do their own research. To indict Trump as you do provides no basis for a rational relative measure with what the leaders of other countries are publicly conveying their own citizen such as the UK, France, Germany, Ireland, Japan, etc. You could have simply shortened the OP to a more honest opening such as Virus Bad, Trump worse.

There are several science forums where discussions are occurring in real-time regarding sharing of research, potential treatment compounds being investigated (including some that have been in the pipeline since Ebola with even the chemical composition and process for making them, virus DNA signatures and comparison to other similar viruses, biological descriptions of how the virus attacks the body and why it’s selectively deadly, metic.

If you want to hear from the CDC why not go directly to the source?
    https://www.cdc.gov/media/dpk/diseases-and-conditions/coronavirus/coronavirus-2020.html

Then too, the CDC is not the only body working on or party to all the other participants involved in working to develop solutions, Just a couple examples,

Another, possible treatment drug, Remdesivir, being investigated.
    https://www.thejournal.ie/treatment-drugs-for-coronavirus-5049067-Mar2020/
    https://www.biopharmadive.com/news/coronavirus-us-clinical-trial-remdesivir-gilead/572920/

The Wikipedia write up on Remdesivir is interesting.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remdesivir
Note the other two candidates mentioned. Also, the potential downside (mutation) mentioned.
No clue on how long it would take to evaluate the downside effects of the drug and no clue on how
long it would take to manufacture sufficient quantities.

Deflects off the question, and it is directly about the CDC, even so, you are telling us we have to go find the information? Instead of listen to Trump everyday, why can't Americans hear directly from the experts? In past health threats it was the CDC Americans heard from, so why now have they been pushed to the background? Why are we heading Trump instead of the experts?

If you watched the Trump/Pence show you'd know that Trump reads narratives off of prepared text, has individuals from his cabinet address assigned topics, which usual turns into praises of Trump, and then streams questions. Trump assigns who answers what, and if he feels he can't frame an answer we get the "greatest," "biggest," tremendous" superlatives to describe something he thinks he has done.

Seldom informative, and not the helpful information a CDC report would offer

I find them quite informative and often days before the media publishes the info, if its reported at all.

You mean he's not going to let some fanatical Trump hater help the leftist-allied mainstream media additionally panic the nation for strictly leftist political reasons? Gosh . . . go figure. Every time some rump-hole plays politics to the detriment of this nation it turns out that the bastard has a long affiliation with the DNC and was a notorious Trump hater.

Why shouldn’t you? You take the time to read the critics and the administration damning pundants. To use your tactic of baseless speculation, it’s obvious why you opened the op; to trash the administration. Very transparent of you.

Some of these “experts” would destroy the economy and ruin the savings of most Americans just to save a few extra lives. ITS NOT WORTH IT!!!

You have to look at the bigger picture. It’s still early but 1000s of people people die from illnesses every year and we don’t shut down the economy. 1000s die in car accidents but we don’t prevent everyone from driving. 1000s drown but we don’t stop people from swimming.

Is it worth saving the lives of people who will have nothing left with no one to care for them because they lost everything too? What kind of life will it be then?

Another low informed voter article...Redfield is the director of the CDC and his boss, Azar, both are at the briefings and speak regularly

Perhaps you can explain what the CDC would do for public communication that the task force isn't doing?

The CDC has a Public Relations dept. You believe the department couldn't spare just one person to provide the public with the facts and what we should be doing to stop the spread of the virus? Isn't that a major part in dealing with the virus?

They have a public web presence that provides the opportunity to see what they are working on, recommended means for mitigating personal threat, and more. Do they have to hand feed the information to people that can’t read through the MSM who will then add their biased take?
