Umm. Went into cardiac arrest before arriving. Hospital isn’t responsible for diddly trying to save him/her. And I’m curious if this teen is a citizen. Vague details from articles like these are always suspicious. Being in LA with no insurance and no money and they didn’t actual point out that he was a citizen makes me believe the obvious.

    A non story.

He went to the urgent care previously and was turned away due to his lack of insurance, as the story reads. What hospital turns away someone with distressed breathing (especially during this crisis) due to lack of ability to pay?

They didn't know until after he died if it was Corona. But he was refused treatment knowing it might be Corona, He went home and died.

When they have to decide if caring for an illegal with no money is worth infecting paying people who deserve to be there and using valuable resources that should be spent on citizens first. Being a teen he's also stronger and not at risk. Also if he had a medical history from his pediatrician he strangely doesn’t have they could have better made a more informed decision. Hospitals are not really obligated to help you unless it’s life threatening. Just speculating obviously but again, the story is light on the important details.

The democrat leaders in LA and Cali need to be strung up over this. How incompetent can these leaders be? The mainstream media should make a huge deal out of this, front page news and the lead story on every news outlet for several days - show the American populace just how incompetent these liberal politicians are. The mayor and governor need to be given no quarter. Start petitions for their removal. Recall their butts ASAP. On a daily basis, these people have promised us utopia for the last umpteen years, and have still failed to deliver.

But fear not. Full tilt Scandinavian democratic socialism, if not full on socialism, will be the norm in the United States within a few decades. If we are to progress towards our utopian goals: emergencies, death and destruction, and national crises must be taken full advantage of. If a few lives have to be sacrificed along the way to stir up the media and the populace to action, it will have all been worth it. Every great cause must have its martyrs.

If the msm doesn't play this up to the fullest, then shame on them, I will hold them fully accountable for not pressing the issue and helping society move to a fully socialist form of government. We must oust these DINOS, Democrats in name only, who talk a good socialist game but then do nothing to move the country forward to its destiny.

I can't wait for AOC to be old enough to run for the presidency.

Do you have any other article which identifies him as an illegal with no money?

In the article posted, it said he had no pre existing conditions, which suggests they do have medical records for him.

As for 'life threatening' - I would suggest that anyone showing up at a hospital with limited ability to breathe would be considered as having life threatening conditions.

I wonder if this actually has to do with lack of insurance or the kids age.

There was a recent case in my local town where a woman's son was vomiting up blood and could barely breathe and the ER turned them away due to his age. Not an insurance issue but still. Our facilities here are extremely limited to the point where if the doctors in the ER don't think you're about to drop dead on the spot then they are sending folks home because they can't really afford for someone who is "likely" healthy enough to suffer and get through it to take up one of the very few beds we have here.

The community threw a fuss about it and I'm not sure if that policy has changed since but it was a mess with local medical officials going on our local Facebook community group and trying to explain to people that they just do not have the capacity to take people right now unless you are flat out about to die.

Also in the article it said he could have gone to a public hospital. Do private hospitals have to take you for NON-urgent elective care? What if everyone showed up and said they didn’t want to pay? How does that private hospital stay in business? That’s not fair. Forced to use limited resources on people NOT dying?

And just because the mayor said he didn’t have any health issues that could simply be whatever the kid told the hospital or what the parents said. Why didn’t the article mention his parents brought him to the hospital? Why no quotes from the parents, and only a mayor? Seems quite odd? It’s like they don’t want to be identified. Urgent care is not a hospital. Th hey often send people to emergency room when someone comes in with non minor conditions.

So the rationing of beds has already started? The system is overloaded and can’t handle the patients?

Sounds like USA is catching up to Italy’s health care crisis pretty quickly.

I think this might be a case of fake news...meaning yes the boy died, but why? Why didnt the parents take him to the hospital right off? If urgent care turned him away, they could have done that and would of most likely been referred that direction.

My assumption based on the vagueness of the story, the lack of investigation by the reporter and lack of clear facts is that this is fake news. Maybe there is a better written story out there that has seeked a comment from the urgent care and doesnt have time line gaps.

If the story is accurate, which I am not sure of, it would be a hospital in the state of California that will give free healthcare to illegal immigrants.

It's fake news. From the article in TheHill:

"Parris said the teen was sent to the hospital but went into cardiac arrest on the way and died. He was briefly revived, but ultimately passed away."

He wasn't turned away. Urgent care doesn't hospitalize people. If someone needs more treatment than the urgent care facility can offer they send them to the hospital. If he was sick enough to die then he needed to go to a hospital.

I wouldn't take my little community as an accurate representation of the US as a whole. We are a very small community and pretty isolated from the rest of the country with nowhere near the resources of even most regular American rural areas. A multi car pileup on the highway here would probably overload our local medical facilities.

I would suggest his parents for not following the advice of the clinic and talk from directly to the hospital as they advised. That’s frankly outrageous

Where are you getting this? The article states he went to a urgent care (not a hospital) and adviced to go to a hospital. The boy’s parents didn’t listen to the advice he got worse, then take to a hospital, but it was to late and he later died there.

Maybe someone thinks stat cares have ICU capability?

He was probably told to go to the ER, then left and went home, came back at some later time, in duress, and was transferred.

The whole story is not being told
