    Wrong again.

    US infection rate, .0004
    Italy infection rate, .0016

We enacted an early China travel restriction, Italy didn't.

It is cultural also, despite the fact that Italy was intimately tied to China. Italians are known for tight families and being touchy feely people. No doubt alot of young Italians today will be feeling guilt about the fate of granny.

There is nothing that Republicans can say about themselves that is up lifting. They have no good ideas. None at all. All they have is bashing Democrats. Take away bashing Democrats and Republicans have nothing to say.

    I've never done a case-to-population comparison.

I said the rate of spread was higher in US.

Measures to counter the spread are ineffective.

To be fair, information even from the health experts has changed based on the situations on the ground. As an example, more younger adults and even teens/kids are now catching this virus. No one really knows anything, and where I'll criticize Trump is that this wasn't a situation of faking it until you make it.

    This is the story...

"On Thursday, a health care union called the S.E.I.U.-U.H.W. said it had found a whopping 39 million masks from a private company based in Pennsylvania that distributes medical supplies and pharmaceuticals. The masks were being sold for $5 each to groups like Kaiser Permanente and the Greater New York Hospital Association, the union said, adding that it had no financial interest at stake."

    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/26/us/national-cathedral-masks-donation-coronavirus.html

    The SEIU wasn't hoarding masks.
I guess you don't have anything better to do with your time.

Have you noticed most of the news articles criticizing our testing rates are either from early march or using stats from early march?

Since we stopped requiring CDC verification of results, our testing is through the roof.

$5 each! Nope the union wasn't hoarding, it was price gouging. A criminal act.

To be fair, the record shows that medical experts sounding the alarm were not heeded, and the delays in testing and in anticipating needed protective gear and ventilators contributed to making the U.S. the epicenter of the pandemic with inadequate resources to serve the public need.

    Trump's fake claims such as
    [IMG]
"Anybody who wants a test gets a test!"
one day after Pence had admitted that the US could not meet the coronavirus testing demand
were not helpful, regardless of who is desperate to dismiss, defend,
or ignore such false public utterances.

As I pointed out, rushing to testing seems to have been a bad idea for places like NYC, as it likely increased the infection rate, especially among healthcare workers, as people rushed in droves to hospitals to be tested.Testing isn't the panacea that everybody pretends that it is in order to bash the Orange Man.

Drive-up testing where you can stay isolated in your car is a much better method, but it's not doable for a dense city like NYC that depends upon public transportation. It would've been far better if NYC had just told everyone to forget about testing(like they're doing now) and just stay isolated.

The PPE issue is being dealt with, and Trump did have a plan for that- bring manufacturing back to America. The left loves globalism though, and they fought for it tooth and nail.

"Those jobs aren't coming back." Guess who said that? Hint: it wasn't Donald Trump.

The ventilators haven't become an issue yet, so you can simmer down on that one.

A lot of local politicians are now conveniently blaming Trump for their own errors in judgement and lack of preparation.

The mayor of New Orleans was bitching at Trump for not forcing her to cancel Mardi Gras. Seriously, New Orleans? Ray Nagin already pulled that trick with Hurricane Katrina. You don't get to blame Uncle Sam for your own local screwups every time it happens. We're wise to your crap.

You're not very smart are you Natty? Epicenter is not the correct term, but keep using those words you're reading on CNN that you don't understand. It makes for humorous reading.

You do? I'm glad. Just because they're enjoying themselves doesn't mean they didn't take it seriously.

I'm sure you've asked yourself how many of them have contracted coronavirus, and how many of those have died? You don't? Well, you have to because you've stepped in it big time. So go research it.

You dwell in appearances. The media shock value is totally exhausted, and gee ... no follow-up, wouldn't ya know. If you want to continue this silliness, you're going to have to come up with something more solid than what you have, which is zero.

    Dismissed.

the reason they didnt do it for swine flu, its because its less contiguous and lethal compare to seasonal FLU, cov19 is complete different ball game. its about 100-300 time more deadly than swine flu and much much more contiguous

Your ad hominem aside, you appear to be confused. I partake of a broad spectrum of media sources, but seldom your CNN.

The term "epicenter" in its current usage refers to "the central point of something, typically a difficult or unpleasant situation."

If you feel that Trump's documented instances of minimizing, downplaying, and providing false information concerning the pandemic has been helpful, you have a right to hold such an opinion with no justification whatever.

Even those who believe everything Trump tells them concerning everything would do well to at least familiarize themselves with the contradictory, informed views of actual experts. Ignorance comes at a high cost.

The last time I bought a case of N95 masks, it seems to me that they were about 10 cents a piece, in quantities of 500.

The overall economy can stand a shutdown. I say this as an economist who is very supportive of the government strategy. So far, they're on track and I hope the guys Trump brought in with him can pull it off. Mnuchin said today he's focused on executing. Good stuff.
My guess? I don't think that many people have had it yet. Before we open things up, we need to run some general population studies with antibody tests. Those tests, I understand, are almost ready.
I think the number of deaths in Italy and Spain suggest you may be wrong.
If you're wrong and we end up killing a half million people, we'll probably end up making sweeping changes to society--universal medicare, a larger social safety net, and likely the end of the Republican majority. Anyway, we need to look at antibody tests.

About the economy... if we beat this thing (has China?), and I think we can, we should be able to restart the economy without too much damage.

Another month or two and the damage is done. Small business all across the country are gone. Lives destroyed. Cruise industry in ruin. Airlines imploding.

And it’s well documented what a curious case Italy is and how their culture differs from ours. A much older population crammed together with young people in n small living conditions with mass numbers of smokers. All very high risk.

And the economy can recover but not after destroying far more lives financially than even the extremely high number of 1/2 million dead. And society will be forever ruined by a massive social safety net causing mass dependence, and breeding generational laziness or apathy. Our country as we know it is over and we will cease being leaders in anything. Socialism is a disease and no country survives long when the govt essentially pays itself because who is creating wealth when govt owns it all? Using taxes collected from the same people who paid them. People will vote for bigger regift since more people will work for it or be dependent on it. It’s all funny money. It’s not real anymore.
It’s all over except for super wealthy compounds surrounded by mass blight.

Redouble the effort we're doing now. Trump needs to make every effort to increase production of PPE, ventilators, and creating hospital beds. He needs to go "all in" on trying to save the people instead of talking about firing up the economy too soon.

We need to keep handing money to business, big and small, and people. More will likely be necessary.

Most people have no idea why this economic strategy works and your boy Trump will get a lot of credit if we can restart with out near the damage most anticipate. If we can figure out where we can restart safely with antibody tests, the loss will be even less.

South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore--they haven't lost many people. If we come off looking more like Spain or Italy, there's going to be hell to pay.
