No, he did not. You are making more misstatements than he is! The statement was:

“I’d love to have it open by Easter, OK? I would love to have it open by Easter."

Even if he had said "We will be open by Easter," which he did not, that's at worst a prediction proved unattainable by subsequent events.

Providing your interpretation of his justification for attacking those reporters because they asked about his own previous statements does not provide any useful context.

In the best of lights, it was an unattainable prediction that further convinced a segment of the population that this virus is not serious and will get better very soon precisely at a time when he needs to be reinforcing a total and undeniable reliance on promoting safety and science.

Even if you believe that statement is explicitly clear (and it is not), then it is still objectively a bad decision to use the word "hoax" while discussing any aspect of this virus. Especially in the early days of a crisis when you need to alter the behavior of everyone as quickly as possible.

I'll say it again one more time. I'm on board with what Trump is doing (but that is waning somewhat) but he has got to stop winging it.
48 hrs after suggesting that Easter might be business as usual, he now announces that Easter will in fact be the deadliest time of this epidemic.
I have no problems with facts changing with time, so I do not hold him responsible for some of his very early statements (ie we have almost no cases we should have it down to zero) but he litterally went from telling us that churches might be open for easter to easter is going to be the time of the reaper in 48 hrs. All because he likes to wing it and was trying to portray himself as some messiah figure.

and turns on Trump was wrong, the virus was not on it's way down from 15, in fact, it was on it's way up

Trump made the same mistake China did - thought it was nothing, and he had it under control

It was obvious to anyone with half a brain before he said it. And I said so here the moment he made that idiotic claim. I also said people will now go to church because of it.

Today there were churches full because this is still seen a liberal media hoax. So there are more people trump and the rw media will have killed.

It was an aspirational goal as he initially stated that would be affected by facts and data. Those would have only affected areas that warranted it. Now we have to wait until May 1 to hope some areas county by county will start being allowed to return to work.

And they deserved to be attacked for taking snippets of what he said rather than his entire statement in context. He’s right to call out gotcha questions during this serious time.

Well, yeah, that's the normal thing a president should do. I bet you would have already had the virus cleared up, yes?

I have no problem with your opinion but can we be honest, he said some places "might" and he hoped. Not the whole country, not the hot spots but places where there is little to no outbreak in comparison. There are a ton of cities not affected by this specifically more rural areas but some medium size cities too. No problem if you don't like Trump saying he hoped something may happen but let's be honest about the entirety of what was said instead of applying to the entire country.

But of course, Hillary was the one who could beat Trump the worst, then after she lost, she was the only one Trump could beat.

Trump is downplaying while dems are pushing doom. So far, Trump is the calm voice of reason by comparison.

You are not qualified to speak for what Trump believes and doing so doesn't put you in a position to criticize dishonesty.

    Yes, I heard it correctly.
I also hope that the virus will be erradicated tomorrow and that might just happen. It could really happen. If we all have faith, by tomorrow, we could all be back in our churches praying together. What we need to do is to ignore the naysayers, and live off of hope. I think that our lord and saviour, if we all beleive hard enough, will have this thing licked by next sunday. I hope then, that all of the safer zones in this country, hardly affected by the virus will be able to greet their neighbours, go to church, attend rallies, and meet side by side in churches. This could happen as soon as this sunday.

Just heard Trump's conference today. When he is on script, I think he is doing well.
When he is winging it responding to journalists or being interviewed it is a disaster.
Words really really really matter. I know that Kellyanne Conway told us not to listen to what came out of his mouth, but what was in his heart, but right now, we need information as precise as possible and as clear as possible. this is important. Think of all the preachers who already didn't "really beleive " in this cornovarius thing who heard this as a wink wink nudge nudge it's pretty much over and held sermons up until last week. Just found out that an old friend of mine who was in NY for a few weeks with her family all left NY the day that Trump said that he was mulling putting a quarantine on NY. They were afraid of being trapped there (they are not from NY) so hightailed it out that very day in probably unsafe conditions. Because words actually have consequences during disasters.
Trump has got to put a lid on the attacks, improvs, winging it bullshit and stick to the *******n script

The difference is that China didn't have any other data to go on. Trump had more than enough information to know that we needed to take decisive action. And what did he do? He downplayed the threat - an error that may be haunting us to this day.

What are you talking about we've now tested over 1 million people, more than any other country. Every day we test over 100,000 per day, more than any other country. Trump just announced a 5 min point of contact test starting tomorrow all because the administration fast tracked FDA approval in the last 3 weeks, something that normally takes 9 months. Where do you guys come up with stuff like this.

So cases are "exploding" in spite of shutting down nonessential business? What measures over and above what we are doing would you suggest?

Locking down weeks earlier would have been the prudent thing to do in light of what we saw coming out of China.

I thought cases were "Exploding" in spite of locking things down. Would you also shut down grocery, restaurant, and delivery?

Despite pushback, Trump tells governors he “hasn’t heard about testing in weeks.” President Trump told governors on a conference call Monday that he “hasn’t heard about testing in weeks,” suggesting that a chronic lack of kits to test people for the coronavirus is no longer a problem.
