It’s your duty to buy stuff

My wife and I will both be getting a government check soon and despite my natural tendency to put that money in the bank we decided to spend it. New lawn mower would be nice and I wouldn’t mind having a back blade for my tractor and our wood burning stove is showing it’s age. This money is meant to stimulate the economy and even if you don’t absolutely need anything you should look for stuff to buy. One thing though, make sure it’s made in USA.

 

Good point but I wouldn't spend it all. There is a good chance you will have to pay taxes on the check.

 

If I get such a check, it won't be used to buy anything. Sorry.

 

I'll buy some toilet paper.

I might buy some extra shares of stock.

I might buy down my mortgage a bit.

Stimulus money won’t stimulate anything if people don’t spend it.

It is the duty of hospitals to reduce the amount they are charging people who are infected and need to stay alive, especially the uninsured. It is also the responsibility of the wealthy to donate as much as they can to these efforts, understanding that they did lose a lot of money in the stock market and their businesses might be in trouble. It is also the responsibility of the banks and landlords to eliminate or reduce rent and mortgage payments during this time. We need to be in this together as a country like we are at war. Its time to put profit making aside and focus on the good of the people and the economy.

 

My guess is he/she makes more than the cutoff amount. My wife and I will also not get checks

 

I'm sure many will, but not all. my parents wont. my in laws wont. they've all been retired for years, they havent lost a dime. they will add it to the savings account, which is my plan, or like I said, toss it on a stock and let it ride.

edit: now that I think about it. there's a new ruger I'm interested in, that would make a nice birthday present to myself.

I don't think that type of reasoning is entirely accurate.

Maybe it would be more accurate to say people with excess money should try to spend it, in a way that will help create income to people that need it.

Services from low wage workers would be an especially appropriate way. Especially categories of workers who would be likely to be struggling right now because what is happening. (But therein presents a sort of paradox, to some extent)

 

I hope you will be buying it from a small business owner rather than a big box store...it might cost more, but you can add in some extra dollars to your free money and help those who need it the most.

I’m retired and don’t need the money but I’m going to buy stuff that I don’t absolutely need to keep this money circulating. Buy the gun.

 

They won’t spend it in America

 

Doctors without Borders operates in the US as well. They buy some American supplies. They help save American lives.

 

I'll buy some tools and beer.

 

They mostly work in Africa and other third world states. Seems like we could use help here right now
