Destroying the incomes or savings of close to 300million, not to mention the unrecoverable loss of X number of small businesses and even some larger businesses that can’t rebuild, is NOT worth only 500k deaths, many who were already sick or elderly. NOT worth it at all in the grand scheme of things. Many elderly who survive will no longer have the money to finish living their lives happily. So you “saved them” only to make their remaining days miserable, because they lost everything that was going to make their retirement enjoyable? Worth it?

Survival of the fittest. It makes us a stronger nation in the long term. That’s Chinas approach. You think they give a **** about some loss? The difference there is their people never have a choice. We do here but now the choice has been taken away. Healthy people and those who have little or no chance of dying haven’t had a choice.

Sucks. But we have to deal with it now. Hopefully we can pull out of this before it spirals down too far. I’ve spent nearly 30 yrs building a savings. Wiped out in a couple months? Thanks. Appreciate the sympathy;)

    Correct.

    Nope.

It is a flu. SARS is a flu. MERS is a flu. They are not "common flu" (as that is caused by orthomyxoviruses), but they are still viruses that affect the respiratory system.

... more fear mongering... The media would be proud of you!!!

We are making use of the resources that we have, and the free market is adjusting to the supply/demand changes. Auto makers are making ventilators, breweries are making hand sanitizers, and companies such as My Pillow are making masks.

Yes it can. Government couldn't even pass a stimulus bill right away. Pelosi sat on her ass for weeks and held up the works because she wanted to take advantage of the "crisis" to shove a bunch of Democrat pet projects down the country's throat. They didn't get their whole wish list, but sadly they still got a large amount of it. They even gave themselves raises. The free market, on the other hand, immediately began switching their operations over from now low demand products to making now high demand products... all on their own...

    Yes there is.

    FEMA is a disaster.

    Yeah. So?

That is not insulting capitalism. That is how one maximizes profits. You need a strong desire to acquire money.

    ... more fear mongering...

An infection rate of 0.006% is minuscule. A death rate of 0.00012% is minuscule.

Im not a fan of Trump. The opposition had a chance to step up and be the voice of reason, but decided to make Trump look better by default.

You are completely wrong. I suggest you find better sources of information.

Again, SARS, MERS and COVID-19 are not types of flu. They are caused by three separate types of coronavirus.

Flu of all types - from "common flu" to H1N1 - are caused by orthomyxoviruses.

This is scientific fact - not a matter of opinion.

Although the authorities are alarmist, the increase in the number of cases per day seems to be slowing down somewhat.

    Containment measures may be working.

    Same.

    Yes they are.

    Correct.

What one typically refers to as "the flu" (and what commonly spreads around each Winter) are orthomyxoviruses. However, any viral respiratory infection is a flu. This includes coronaviruses such as COVID-19.

No it's not. Breweries were switching over to making hand santizers long before Trump ever said anything. Nobody told the My Pillow guy to start making masks. He did that all on his own. Other companies were already switching over to making ventilators before Trump told GM to do so.

Trump's "mandate" (or whatever you wanna call it) was unnecessary, as companies were already doing so via the free market.

This isn't about the dollar cost of saving grandma.

Today COVID is raging through the sailors on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt, causing the ship to plead for help.

As I remember, aircraft carriers aren't crewed by a bunch of grandmas.

But, if you come up with an equation for the cost of saving a human life ...

    ... tell it to Rushbo.

No, that is NOT an excuse.

Trump was WAY late. And, Trump is NOT coordinating the production and distribution of supplies that are needed in various places and not so needed in other locations.

Only our federal government is in a position to rally companies to volunteer, help them retool, and coordinate the delivery of the product.

And, Trump has refused to do that - even though everyong involved is asking for that. Even the manufacturers are pointing out that they don't know where the need is and thus can't know where their products need to go. THEY are asking for help.

For other disasters (weather, flooding, etc) FEMA does that. There is NO reason for ignorig this for a bio catastrophe.

The federal government is not God. You act as if we are incapable of handling business without government mandates and involvement. I've already told you that the free market has already been handling this. Companies are re-tooling due to the change in supply/demand. State governments are able to communicate their individual needs to manufacturing companies.

There is no reason to fear monger, nor to live in fear. The situation is being handled and the spread of the virus will reduce very shortly.

Trump was totally enabled to increase the focus on production and delivery of PPE and equipment for hospitals as well as the public. He signed the Defense Production Act (then tweeted that he wouldn't use it). He has FEMA, that has the ability, experience and equipment to move required material to where it is needed, build field hospitals, measure relative need, etc.

He did not use that. The work corporations are contributing today could be FAR larger if the need were articulated and support given. The willingness is there.

Pelosi insisted that America's workforce is considered - not just the corporate officers. This disaster is leaving people unable to pay rent and food insecure. Why would't Trump and others care about that???

The free market is NOT "handling business".

Suggesting it is is just plain ignorance. There is NO measure by which that is happening. Manufacturing companies are NOT in a position to figure out the location of the greatest need - and they have stated that when asking Trump for federal help in figuring out distribution.

Your nutty idea about COVID surrendering shortly is not what experts in pandemic are stating.

Everything that you are claiming isn't being done IS being done. Pelosi doesn't care about America's workforce. She cares about Democrat Party pet projects and giving herself a raise. Such a small amount of that bill has anything to do with putting my own money back into my pockets. To make matters worse, the fed is just creating money out of thin air again to "pay for" this stimulus, so the money that I DO have is being severely devalued yet again.

Yes it is. I've already told you how it is doing so.

It is already happening, and I have given you examples already.

Infections of COVID-19 will likely be a non-issue by sometime in May (June at the latest).

    No, action is STILL necessary.

US hospitals do NOT have the ventilators they need. And, there isn't an indication that they are going to get them, as it will be a while before companies like GM can ship their first vent.

Are those the ventilators Trump plans to send to Europe instead of NY?

And, now Trump is promising to send them to other countries.

    Bull.

Not NEARLY enough is being done.

==> The issue isn't that ZERO is being done.

The issue is that what is being done is entirely insufficient, and that Trump is ignoring that. He's even promised US ventilators be sent to Europe!

But, in some cases it's actually true that NOTHING is being done. For example, there is NO help related to identifying serious need and getting equipment to those hospitals - something that governors and manufacturers are both petitioning Trump to supply - since it is a nation wide issue.

Cuomo has come up with more highly cost effective solutions to real problems that the federal level CAN supply - but chooses not to.

We are not even getting a consistent message on physical separation and stay at home policy - the only method we have for slowing this pandemic.

But a bogus "hand sanitizer is $15, instead of $3.

Good Masks for use for nurses and doctors aren't available.

Bogus cotton "masks" that Pillows that do very little from the Good Pillow ripoff, who is the worst rating for his God Pillows from the Better Business Bureau rated "F-", are barely good for kids to play Cops and Robbers.

There are NO ventilators coming in from our vaunted car companies, maybe they will come in in July (their promise) All American Made!, just give them 500 billion dollars to start! Cash! (Then they will arrive from China around October - Promise! With Made in America Stickers and little American Flags with Trump smiling on the decal!)

    Wrong!

This is just your opinion, based on erroneous ideas - not scientific medical fact.

Viral respiratory infections are caused by numerous viruses. Only those caused by an orthomyxovirus are classified as flu. COVID-19 is not caused by an orthomyxovirus. Hence, it is not correct to call it flu, let alone "quite literally flu", as you did. And, that's why no one (with the possible exception of some ill-educated folks at Fox) is calling it a flu. Because it's not a flu.

Your persistence in denying scientific medical reality simply betrays your unwillingness to do some actual research, and educate yourself.

    I'll make another prediction.

Just an attempt to reconnect you with reality.

By May, 500 to 600 Americans will die from the virus every day.

That number could easily exceed 1,000/day if the containment measures are not followed.

So the chances of the virus becoming a non-issue by then are 0%.

The 1 or 2 companies who made some switch weren't going to cover the expected demand.
