"If Democratic Socialism Works, Why Doesn’t Venezuela Have Toilet Paper?"

like the USA, most of their toilet paper comes from overseas, why did we have a shortage?

    corporatism is just as bad

that is why America chooses to use the best of all systems and not limit ourselves to just one

nice twistie leftie, wrong, but nice twist...

5 of the 10 largest paper/pulp companies are right here in the usa, and they make tp/tissue...

the shortage was due to our 'on demand supply chain' system, all handled electonically by scanning inventories by barcodes at the end user retail store level. saves businesses billions of dollars annually by using data to know how much is needed at each location on average over long periods of time.
it does not account for mass raids on goods during times of natural disasters because they occur too infrequently...

has nada to do with import/export, nor politics... its pure business sense...

I recommend you work hard to give government something else for it to mess up. It will keep you busy.

We have a shortage because irrational and frightened humans are hoarding.

Venezuela has had shortages of all sorts of things including medicine because the US has imposed cruel sanctions against the country so that we can steal their oil.

Look at the sour grapes - from the one accusing others of not being calm. It is hard to lose - but sometimes - break downs can lead to breakthroughs :)

I'm sorry you don't see the "common sense" of combining capitalist & socialists strengths together to benefit us all. It's not that hard to discern.

Sweden is a capitalistic system. They, as other Scandinavian countries tried socialism and it failed.

Sweden & other W European countries are successful combination capitalist & socialist economies working together. Capitalism alone serves only the wealthy classes while abusing the working classes. Socialist policies & programs are needed to soften the harshness of capitalism, or we end up where we are now with the extreme economic disparities that exist in America today.

Their airy-fairy fantasies aside, ideological, dogmatic crackpots and chronic malcontents have always opposed such innovative programs as Social Security and Medicare, overwhelmingly popular with the People.

Every advanced democratic nation on earth is a pragmatic fusion of regulated capitalism and enlightened social welfare institutions.

There are no extant purely-capitalistic countries anywhere on earth, Somalia being a prime example of the minimal government paradigm that a cadre of pifflewits champions.

They've always had capitalism as part of their economies, but coupled with socialist programs. They still do.

Yeah, you can’t have a mix market economy, and be considered a socialist country. It doesn’t work that way. None of the Nordic countries, or any Western European country is socialist. There isn’t a functioning socialist country on the face of the planet. People need to learn the difference between social services, and socialism.

OK, I suggest you start teaching this difference to Republicans. They need the help desperately. They consistently label every conceivable "social service" program as "socialist" or "socialism," in their effort to kill it. Clearly, they are being dishonest.

Then they’re just as dishonest as the left. How many times has some left winger held up the Scandinavian countries as a shining example of socialism? Is it really dishonestly, or ikust gnorance?

They attempted to go socialist and like other countries which attempt to go socialist it failed.

Here's a good book for you to read, quite entertaining and funny at parts but shows the difference between socialist countries and capitalistic countries and even discusses Sweden and it's attempts to become more socialist.

"The bastard step-child of Milton Friedman and Anthony Bourdain, Socialism Sucks is a bar-crawl through former, current, and wannabe socialist countries around the world. Free market economists Robert Lawson and Benjamin Powell travel to countries like Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, and Sweden to investigate the dangers and idiocies of socialism—while drinking a lot of beer."

Don't think I can like to a commerial site selling it but you know where you can find it, a great read while quarantined.

I could ask the OP the same about the United States. most grocery stores in the United States have been out of toilet paper for weeks because of high demand, and manufacturers not being able to keep up if capitalism is so great why does that happen?

Isn’t there a pandemic going on, or something?
You’re pretty much comparing something like we are going thru now, and every day life in a failed socialist society.

So the United States' toilet paper shortage is because of a pandemic in Venezuela's is because of socialism even though the pandemic has hit Venezuela as well.

That absolutely makes no sense. Maybe you have got the memo, but Venezuela was out of toilet paper before the pandemic, and a good portion of the US workforce isn’t working. Was there this nonsense hoarding of tp before the pandemic? Did you lack and goods or services you wanted before the pandemic?

    wow

People hoarding and government not allow market forces to determine the price against capitalistic principles. The government stepping in and telling a merchant what they must charge for a productic is socialistic not capitalistic.

It requires significant ignorance to make such erroneous statements\ about Venezuela.

Venezuela has all kinds of shortages because a majority of the population was fooled into believing that Socialism would give those who do not produce, all that was had by those who do.
Too many Venezuelans, like you, have a profound propensity to place blame on others for the failures and short comings in life. So the Chavez movement tricked millions into actually believing that
if they put all their trust into one person (a Dictator) that The people would be showered with the wealth of the upper class. Like fools, they believed it and before long, nothing could be produced because
all the producers were run out of Venezuela. The nation become one of the poorest in the Western hemisphere in the wake of Socialists. Blaming it on the USA is a fools errand.
Name all those nations we stole all their oil? <<<< crickets >>>>

Venezuela was wrecked by it's own population of Socialist imbeciles.

The US has a long history of helping people to become free of tyranny. The sanctions you speak of are designed to help pressure a known drug dealer and tyrant dictator out of power so that the people
can once again prosper. Odd how you are so quick to blame the USA for harming so many while the vast majority of those South of the border fight and die just to get here. EXPLAIN THAT..

If the US wanted to "steal" oil, with the world's most formidable military, we sure as hell could have done it easily by now.
