More exactly though, the polls showed that Hillary had a healthy lead until James Comey announced the existence of Anthony Weiner's laptop, with Clinton emails. From that point on, Hillary's support rapidly dropped. The data clearly shows that the Republican tactic of repeatedly going after Hillary's emails, even though there was no wrong doing in the emails, had succeeded in derailing her presidential bid.

But what is to be 'learned' by polling data? I'm not disputing what you say, I just don't understand the importance of polling data.

At the time Trump had issued his travel ban, the Chinese had already locked down the the areas of the outbreak, effectively containing it in China. Trump didn't issue a travel ban until after the virus was already here, and a little too late.

    See post #77.

I'm certain that the economic downturn was coming anyhow. The scare of the virus may have triggered a sell off but it was going to come. A lot if the rise in stock prices has been from those who have confidence in Trump's claims that he is making the economy better, not that the economy is getting better. That is to say, a lot of stocks had been selling at prices not commensurate with the value, profits, and productivity of the companies.

Collecting people's opinions as the wheels come off, will tell us the weak spots. The polling has been showing greater support for certain governors, as leaders in this crisis, and not the president. Polls are showing that many don't trust the words of the president. Another pandemic is sure to come, a picture of what people are thinking is sure to come in handy.

Sorry to burst yer bubble, but that is what the data shows. Isn't that what all the lock her up was about? Something nefarious in her emails?

all while remaining silent about Trump's dealings with Russia

Comey (a republican) said, only two choice, speak or conceal, why did he choose to conceal for Trump and blab for Clinton?

What about boats. On the West Coast it seems all the big outbreaks have come where there is a steady stream of shipping to and from China. Seattle, San Francisco and LA all see dozens of ships from China daily. Portland, whose airport sees a lot of people from China has had a very small outbreak. The ports of Portland, mainly only receive ships from Japan, loaded with automobiles.

No polling data is going to weaken a Trump supporter's support.

That's an interesting perspective. Mine is different. I believe (based upon a lifetime of conversations with countless people) that people vote along party lines. People who are wishy washy about a candidate - in my experience - still vote party.

I would say that is true to an extent,

most republicans in 2016 voted for Trump because they did not want Hillary to win

most democrats in 2020 will vote Biden because they do not want Trump to win

that is why Biden gets my vote, though I would have preferred Bernie

I'm surprised the poll numbers were so close. I think Trump has been a national disaster as a leader throughout the pandemic.

Our government is irresponsible and inefficient. Those sitting around waiting for the government to tell them what to do are foolish. Remember Katrina? While it was too little too late, it was better than nothing.

I disapprove of almost everything managed by the government.
I never said they should do nothing.

    Make sense?

The poll is an outliar. 14 of the last 15 polls are positive for the President on Covid.

    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/e...s_handling_of_the_coronavirus-7088.html#polls

And small wonder, he's been fabulous, which is why the US has one of the lowest death rates in the first world. Even the CDC admits that his early action, which voices on the Left decried and worked to circumvent by inviting multitudes to crowd together to support Chinese New Year, still saved thousands of American's despite politicians on the Left slander it, and working cicumvent their protective effect.

Since Democrats in Congress keep attacking @realDonaldTrump, let’s compare records.

    JAN 7:

CDC established a coronavirus incident management system, two days before China announced the outbreak.

Pelosi began Week 3 of withholding her sham impeachment articles.

    JAN 21:

The CDC activated its emergency operations center to provide ongoing support to confront coronavirus.

What were Congressional Democrats focused on?

Writing their opening arguments for their bogus impeachment trial.

JAN 27: A tale of 2 press conferences.@Mike_Pence outlined the administration’s efforts to work with China to counter coronavirus.

Chuck Schumer demanded that more time be wasted with new impeachment witnesses.

JAN 31:@realDonaldTrump initiated travel restrictions from China, which the experts have praised as a critical decision to slow the spread of coronavirus.

Democrat leaders called him “xenophobic” and “racist.”

FEB 9: The Trump administration’s Coronavirus Task Force met with governors to coordinate response efforts.

Chuck Schumer was busy soliciting inspectors general to open NEW investigations into @realDonaldTrump.

FEB 24:@realDonaldTrump requested additional funding to fight the coronavirus.

Democrat Jerry Nadler demanded more documents from AG Barr to continue his political vendetta against the Trump administration.

MAR 2: The Trump administration secured commitments from top pharmaceutical companies to develop a vaccine to fight coronavirus.

Democrats began “quietly discussing moving ahead with punishments for individuals who defied subpoenas” in the impeachment sham.

BOTTOM LINE: While @realDonaldTrump and his administration have been focused on protecting YOU, Democrats in Congress have been focused on attacking HIM!

Actually, those who have even a grain of common sense are listening to Dr. Fauci. Those stupid enough to listen to Orange Foolius... well... let Darwin take the wheel, and may the odds ever be in their favor. [IMG]
