This is an opportunity for Donald to get a little very necessary credibility with the decent folks in life, no matter the party.

He can follow Crozier's lead and do the right thing. Lately he's looking more like Reagan in his second term. It happens to everybody.

    Or he can punish Crozier.

    We'll know next week.

Crozier's naval career is basically toast. How much more can Trump punish him?

Modly's leaked words may have been impolitic but Crozier is stupid. Punish Crozier? He's punished himself, an ignoble end and now his name is synonymous with weakness. In the years to come his actions will be a case study in failure at the United States Naval Academy.

Thank God Capt. Crozier's gone before he could surrender the Teddy Roosevelt to the next thing that scared him.

What's "the right thing", the Captain was rightfully relieved of command and lucky he's not facing a courts martial.

    Modly was unwise.
”Modly’s resignation comes a little more than a week after Capt. Brett Crozier, the then-commanding officer of the USS Theodore Roosevelt, sent a memo warning of coronavirus spreading among the sailors on the aircraft carrier. The memo leaked and Modly subsequently removed Crozier from command. The former acting secretary flew to Guam to address the ship, insulting Crozier to thousands of sailors who had given their former captain a standing ovation as he left the ship days before.”

Probably quietly push him out through retirement and put this behind them. Crozier tested positive so leaving for medical reasons would end any need for further action...

An incompetent unqualified political hack fired one of the Navy's senior captains for doing his damn job.

America has a long, long history of shitcanning military leaders who put their people ahead of political prudence and the one inviolate cardinal rule of being an officer is this: Never EVER, EVER make your superiors look bad.
Most especially when they ARE bad.
Captain Crozier most certainly knew that.
And he did what he did anyway.
Because it was his duty to take care of his crew and damn the personal consequences.

That "unqualified political hack" is also an Annapolis grad, past instructor at the Air Force Academy and an Navy pilot.

Eh, I guess work in the military isn't "essential." I noticed doctors and nurses running and screaming from UVM Medical Center here in Vermont when the first case of coronavirus was diagnosed. Oops, nope that didn't happen.

    Freak show.

That sucks, but doesn't really chance anything. That 06 violated the chain of command and national security.

And to you and other liberals doing one's job means insubordination, violation of the chain of command, and the deliberate use of insecure communications.

His actions, speaking out, putting his sailors first, knowing that it would cost him his career, SHOULD BE THE NORM. This is what we should expect and demand from every leader, at all levels, every single day, in uniform or out, no exceptions.
Alas, we don't live in that world and the good captain knew that full well.
The sad reality of the matter is that this was completely predictable. Captain Crozier was screwed, no matter what, once the first case of coronavirus was diagnosed onboard his ship.
If he waited for the chain of command to act, his crew would die, his mission would fail, and he would held accountable.
If he spoke out, his crew might be saved, but he would be held accountable for making the Navy, and thus the Administration, look bad.
    And here we are.
He was screwed either way. And so he choose to save his crew. And that's how it should be.

The general population has been hoodwinked into thinking this captain was somehow mistreated because they do not understand the military or national security and the repercussions of what he did and there would be even more misplaced uninformed outraged it they courts martialed him so yes it will be swept away and he will retire with rank having lost his command.

That's unlikely to happen and you know it.

Trump claims he didn't even know the guy.

Where have I heard that before?

And I'm certain that you don't know what "confidential information" is, or isn't.

Sounds like the acting NAVSEC was being a putz in this case and resigning was the best decision for everyone involved.

After 28 years in the military with a clearance I am certain I know what "confidential information" is. It's amazing that you claim to be prior service and yet people have to explain simple SOP about confidential information to you. Maybe you are just a poser or maybe it's been so long that you totally forgot what classified information is. Not my puzzle to figure out but your making yourself look extremely uninformed.

Wellllll . . . they did defend and rationalize all of that where Hillary Clinton was concerned. It's now become part of their ideological genetics.

I think it's safe to assume the entire above post is based on zero military experience.

The Secretary was absolutely in line with the dismissal of Crozier, and absolutely out of line -- maybe even at Crozier's level -- with his commentary.
