I think had republicans removed Trump, Pence would have done a much better job handling this crisis then Trump

Bush was stunned for a few days after 9/11 but eventually manned up to the situation. I didn't agree with all his actions, especially in taking advantage to attack Iraq. However he did rally the country and fought back against al queda or whatever it is.

Trump has shown no leadership at all. He seems more interested in his polling numbers. Half of his news conferences are campaign rallies in disguise, trash talking his political opponents rather than offering a path forward.

This is another case where he seems lost when it matters most. You could see it when bungled his appearances with groups of world leaders. Like with the last summit in France, where Macron kept Trump occupied so that Trump would not disrupt the proceedings.

This is a time for a great leader to step forward, but apparently Trump lacks the testicular fortitude to be such a leader.

Yet here in Liberal-Land, dems crowded the beaches and parks after the stay at home order. Im not a fan of either party, just don't try to pretend that dems are any smarter.

I don't like Trump either, but Dems have successfully made him the voice of reason by comparison. Your Humpty Trumpty line says more about you than him.

You forgot to mention that Trump fired the head of the CDC & removed its departmental funding in October 2019. How was that showing concern for American lives?

Fake News, Redfield has served as the director of the CDC since March 26, 2018.

    Happily Working at the CDC

Ridiculous. CDC's Funding was removed? How do you come up with this crap? 10,600 people work at the CDC earning $1,100,000,000 a year.

That was fairly common, even up to mid March:

Dr. Gregory Poland, a Mayo Clinic infectious diseases and vaccine specialist, says that the threat of the coronavirus is real, but the seasonal flu still remains a bigger issue for most people.

"Right now, seasonal flu is causing many more deaths than COVID-19, and the tragedy is that many people die because they consider it 'just the flu,'" says Dr. Poland.
    https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/...easonal-flu-what-you-need-to-know-about-both/

COVID-19 is a very similar disease to influenza. This new coronavirus seems to cause similar symptoms and to progress in a similar way to flu. And, as a respiratory disease, COVID-19 likely is transmitted in a similar fashion to the flu, via direct contact with respiratory droplets.

    - Jonathan Runstadler, a professor in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Global Health at Cummings School

So this attempt to rewrite such recent history is really a lot of fake news. Mid March was only 3 weeks ago, do you spend a lot of time around folks with ALZ? Why do you think you can just make things up like this and not get instantly fact checked? Everyone has access to a Google browser, it's easy as pie.

I checked with factcheck.org & found your info more accurate than mine. My apologies. The facts are that it wasn't the director of the CDC who lost his job, but Rear Admiral Timothy Ziemer, the Senior Director of the NSC’s Office of Global Health Security and Bio-defense, lost his after John Bolton dissolved that dept in May of 2018. Admiral Ziemer's office worked closely with the CDC in planning & dealing with external bio-threats to the U.S., & Bolton's action weakened our overall ability to deal with the current pandemic. Since Bolton never did anything without Trump's prior approval, then ultimately Trump was responsible for this decision.

Trump has repeatedly tried to reduce funding of the CDC since his inauguration, but Congress has failed to act on Trump's wishes.

No worries. That's solid double checking.
I don't buy the last claim. The idea that multiplying committees in the Federal level increases effectiveness runs counter to our experience, what it does is multiple obstacles to action. The CDC flubbed some things. like getting accurate tests out quickly, but I see no reason to believe that an additional committee at the NSC would have made any difference. Other than that initial flub, I've found the CDC to be very good. When I needed accurate information immediately, I quickly found it on either the CDC or the NIOSH websites.
Well, it's rooted in a fake claim by someone in the Biden Campaign, Joe Biden doesn't appear to have the awareness to come up with a reality skirting claim like this one:

“The Obama-Biden Administration set up the White House National Security Council Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense to prepare for future pandemics like covid-19. Donald Trump eliminated it — and now we’re paying the price.”

—Former vice president Joe Biden, in a tweet, March 19

The Washington Post published an article by Tim Morrison, a former Trump administration official, titled

No, the White House didn’t ‘dissolve’ its pandemic response office. I was there.”

He explained that the office, which he oversaw for about a year starting in July 2018, was folded into another one to streamline a bloated organization and the combined directorate was stronger because related expertise could be commingled.

Rearranging organizational charts and bureaucrats is part of the lifeblood of official Washington. What makes the government work effectively is the right people in the right place to make decisions.

Anthony S. Fauci, who runs the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases does not view Bolton's reorganization as a mistake and neither do I.

The National Security Council staff is supposed to help the president coordinate the government response to international crises and homeland security issues, by identifying emerging problems and making sure Cabinet agencies and other departments are working cooperatively.

After Barack Obama became president in 2009, he eliminated the White House Health and Security Office, which worked on international health issues. But after the 2014 Ebola epidemic, Obama, shortly before he completed his two terms, established a Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense at the NSC. A directorate has its own staff, and it is headed by someone who reports to the national security adviser.

The staff of a hundred that saw us through 9/11 and two wars, was swollen to an unruly 430 people at the very end of Obama's tenure, and WHY was never clear. When Bolton became national security adviser, he found an organizational chart that was a mess, with so much excess staff that it led to conflicts.

Bolton fired Tom Bossert, the homeland security adviser, realigning the post to report directly to him. He eliminated the multiple number of deputy national security advisers down to just one. He folded the global health directorate into a new one that focused on counterproliferation and biodefense. Ziemer was NOT fired, but rather departed for a high-level post in the U.S. Agency for International Development as he was due to leave the NSC anyway. His staff all remained in place. They were not eliminated at all

Bolton wanted a seamless approach to arms control and nonproliferation, weapons of mass destruction terrorism, and global health and biodefense. The epidemiology of a biological health emergency is very similar to a bioterrorism attack. Morrison, who headed the combined office beginning in July 2018, was upgraded to deputy assistant to the president and so had much more bureaucratic clout than Ziemer, who was only a senior director.

A number of major projects that had been stalled in bureaucratic fights, such as a National Biodefense Strategy, finally were completed after Bolton's reorganization.

Ziemer's staff reported that there was no change in focus, that Bolton “was very dedicated to the issues we had been working on.”

The positions that made up the old unit still are filled within the NSC, most in the nonproliferation directorate; one was moved to another directorate. Morrison worked closely with Bolton and could get things quickly to his attention.

During the summer of 2018, NSC merged three directorates into one to reduce the seam between those preparing for biological threats whether they are man-made or naturally occurring. NSC spokesman John Ullyot pointed out that: “No director-level positions were eliminated during this process, and the organization retained its subject matter expertise under a different organizational structure.” He added that under Bolton’s replacement, Robert C. O’Brien, “no NSC biodefense director positions were eliminated under right-sizing.”
First, NSC and CDC are different funding line items.

Secondly, while Trump does have a funding reduction for CDC for chronic disease (not epidemic disease) PROPOSED in it's 2021 budget, it's not been enacted, and frankly, Pelosi won't even use Trump's budget as a starting point for what finally passes the House and then is sent to the Senate, so, this is a lot of posturing without real world effect.

Warren, Biden, and Bloomberg all falsely claimed that the Trump administration had enacted budget cuts that had hobbled federal health agencies on the front lines of fighting the coronavirus. You have to be careful with the claims these folks make.

The President would trim funding for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in order to refocus the CDC on its core mission of preventing and controlling infectious diseases and on other emerging public health issues.

The Administration plan proposes to take the money that would normally go to the CDC for chronic condition study and block grant it to the states. Chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes have common risk factors, and thus consolidating funds will help magnify the public health impact.
