If the government isn't funding colleges properly, then is it not working because of the government, or inspite of the government?

Government shouldn't be funding colleges, students paying for classes should be funding colleges.

Cool. I'm glad that's what you think. What about the government contracting universities for military weapons? The Atom bomb was in part the brainchild of some of the leading universities. I also think Duct Tape was too but I haven't seen any sources on that.

The funds should come from whatever agency needs the work done, if it is successful. If it fails the university should eat it.

Public universities are government. This is my argument. Government has made a government service too expensive. Now government thinks it's the solution.

Are you just going to keep posting your opinions, or are you actually interested in a discussion?

I'm not posting my opinions I'm posting the truth. Socialism has been proven faulty and destructive. The more socialized a country gets the worse it serves it's people.

Not my opinion, fact, proven by the 1900s

And can you assemble that brainpower just like that, or does it make sense to have them on retinue?

If the government has been defunding colleges, colleges have to make it more expensive. If governments are defunding, the funding has to come from somewhere, namely the private sector. The government may "run" the colleges, but that doesn't mean the government is funding them. You're overly simplifying a complex arrangement of government and private interests. My argument is simple, governments are the solution because they renegaded on their role, and now have to get back into it.

Cool story bro, tell it at a party make a friend. Do you also realize universities are forms of soft power in international affairs?

They probably came up with the Iran deal.

Education will never replace common sense .

PRIOR to the Covid-19 virus, colleges were shutting down and going out of business at a record pace, which will now probably accelerate.

If there is no market for what they produce that's the way its supposed to be.

They had to raise tuition rates because they had to cut educational funding in order to pay for tax cuts to the wealthy and to pay for unfunded mandates.

State colleges and universities are entirely government funded just not at the federal level. The states control tuition costs and virtually everything else through the appointive boards if regents. Tuition cost have been doubling about every five to six years and that doesn't include room and board at dorms, also through the roof and text books that can often be as much or more than tuition.

A scholarship means you did something to EARN it, such as grades or athletics or winning some contest (usually academic in nature). A pell grant means you were GIVEN that money without earning it.

Lol that’s patently absurd. They needed to cut their costs, not raise prices. There’s a PLETHORA of way that they could cut costs. But it’s not in their interest to do so because they know the government will pay if they simply increase tuition. Hence the absurdly high cost of tuition and books.

I have to ask if you think that attending a state college is already cost-free? A state-chartered university has some advantages, but nothing on the scale of what socialists advocate.

The lion share of their funding comes from government, and any tuition increase at a public university has to be given the okay by government. Funding could be part of the issue, but the truth is many universities just love money. I attended the University of Texas. In 2013 the college's enrollment was 52,186. In 2019 there were 51,525 students. Yet over the time period the college decided it needed an additional $600,000,000 in funding. Roughly the same number of students merited a 25% increase in budget size. Universities are just any other government institutions. They have an insatiable desire to spend money. So if college is too expensive, then that cost falls squarely on government.

That is kinda funny. The state, ie the government, owns and operates the schools. If they raise rates are they then charging themselves more?

I was born with a high capacity for intellectual development. I'm sure I didn't try any harder in school than anyone else, it just came easier.
