It has been almost forty years and the older I get, the kookier conservative thought becomes. I attend CU Boulder. The Athens of the West. But then scholarship is a trait of liberalism, of liberals.

Yes that’s exactly what they’re doing. That’s the ENTIRE point. They can justify raising your taxes if they tell you that costs for schools have increased and we have to pay more because god forbid we disenfranchise anyone.

That capacity wouldn’t have mattered if you didnt pay attention in class or didn’t do homework. You didn’t just learn calculus through diffusion. But while you were studying those other cats (who btw DID need to study harder than you), chose not to do so and went out and partied with friends, did drugs and drank alcohol, skipped class and didn’t pay attention.

You've been out of college for 40 years but you still atrend? I'm confused..

Lol Athens.... Colorado couldn't provide the Coors corporation with people smart enough to do advertising in Colorado so they moved out of state.

There is a big difference between enlightenment and indoctrination.

Conservative thought = you deserve what you earn and. You're responsible for what you do.

    You think thats kooky?

We live in a liberal society. Most American conservatives are essentially conservative liberals.

One of the central ideas of liberal thought is the idea that we can continually improve the human condition through scientific understanding and technological improvements. This only happens with an adequate educational system. Any capable governor knows that his state's future depends on the quality of the education of his citizenry. It is why those states with a better educated populace, tend to do much better, economically, than those states who don't.

I think that you are confused. I think that I deserve what I earn and am responsible for what I do. It is one of those things that I find a bit off about conservatives, their insistance that they are the responsible ones, and the smart ones, and everyone else is rather lacking in these areas. It is that delusion that I find kooky.

I will agree that there is a lot of hypocrisy but that occurs on both sides. For example i know lots of environmentalists who drive v8 powered trucks.

You are correct there can be a huge difference between conservatives and conservatism.

So I'm guessing you have no problem with conservatism but with the behavior of conservatives in regards to being hypocritical.

That’s nice but there hasn’t been a Democrat leader in recent memory that has proposed personal responsibility or earning your keep. Any that dare to mention such craziness are laughed off the plantation as TOO CONSERVATIVE. :)

What you are is really what many are. More conservative economically, but more Liberal socially.

Name a Democrat platform that isn’t based on victim hood or identity politics? You just can’t anymore. Maybe In the past. Not now.

Single payer healthcare is about making things better for everyone. No victims, no identity politics, but a plan where everyone benefits equally.

Except doctors who’s salaries will drop which isn’t a good thing when we’ll need exponentially more doctors. And basic logic dictates we will have a lot of less qualified medical professionals when we have to lower standards to account for the volume. Also, every benefit besides “everyone has care”, is theoretical, since there isn’t a system in place that isn’t in a smallish country. Scale is a problem.

    Overall benefits are debatable.

The problem with socialized higher education is that the government, once again, chooses the winners and losers. How is it fair that government provides college to those who who are smarter or worked harder and not to the same lazy and worthless that they've been feeding and housing for decades - or.. will they offer free college to the lazy and worthless and those who worked hard and are smarter can't get in? Or, do they do a no-adult-left-behind to mirror no child left behind... and college is dumbed down so that everyone gets a degree.

I generally agree- but at the same time, it makes no sense to try to educate those who do not really have a drive to use it and accomplish, and many would choose free college just to avoid having to work. More importantly, those who do make the most of an advanced education are going to make a lot more money in life, and that would say they should pay for it rather than expect society in general to gift them with it. I'm for making advanced education affordable- but self supporting. I'm also for making it apply to skills and advancement, not philosophy mills turning out professional troublemakers and hiring professors who program people instead of teaching skills.

Unfortunately, you're right. And that's a direct threat to our republican form of government. All the more reason to separate government and higher education...

Or were born a preferred race or gender or sex. Or your parents faked pictures of you in a rowboat. Or your parents were poor because they didn't work to get an education. Or it was Thursday.

How is that a direct threat?

Because the Constitution gives foreign policy power to the President and ratification of treaties to the Senate. Universities have no constitutional role.
