I always felt that feminism was a government plan to put women on the work force so we could compete with the rising economies of Japan and Germany, in the same way that abortions and Federal grants to schools incorporating homosexual agendas was meant to lessen the population growth. But then again, I have a suspicious nature.

That’s a pretty western centered viewpoint. Leaves out 5 of the 7 continents. I’m not trying to argue (sorry if I came across that way) but just seems to me the colonies did not have the highest standard in the world. Life on the frontiers of North America was pretty damn rough from what I read.

    This is off-topic, but ...

I was there. My opinion is formed from my own personal experiences.

For example (and this is just one small sample from those many personal experiences), I had two brothers, one older and one younger. My parents set aside some money for them to go to college, but not for me. I was forced to take typing and bookkeeping and other secretarial classes in high school so that I could get a job and support myself until I found a husband. The fact that I was the one earning mostly A's on my report cards mattered not. And as it turned out, neither of my brothers chose the college route, and in spite of not going to college, I'm the one who achieved a six figure income.

Such were the choices for most of the girls in my generation. We were not encouraged to do what we wanted with our lives, we were expected to find husbands, have babies, cook and clean and do laundry. Not to diminish the importance of any of that, but far too many of us just weren't cut out for it and we eventually rebelled. It wasn't just for the money, either.

My opinion is that it is an operation of the Left to destroy the family, a task which has just about been completed.

The 101st Airborne was in the skies and prepared to jump into Dallas on 11-22-63 if needed. The public does not know 99% of the contingency plans held hush by the military, as it should be.

At the time there was very little frontier in the US, and the East Coast like Western Europe, was well watered compared to other places in the world. Much of the East Coast is literally a jungle in July and August. Also in the colonies the population was sparse compared to Europe and other parts of the world, so there was a lot of land for farming. I recall the Arabs once saying that the West was given the land and the climate to prosper - but that they now have the oil.

After the Louisiana Purchase and the defeat of the Comanches (good riddance, they were barbarous), the Middle West opened up to settlers and after WWII, we were feeding the world with our amber waves of grain - which have now become short and stubby brown, or so I read. What are they doing to us?

As for Ukraine and Russia, they have a strain of black earth that is considered the best soil in the world. Ukraine was always known as Europe's bread basket. I don't know if their growing season was short, but I know that Russia's was. And as far as their Far East is concerned, the soil is very poor. Russia's has managed to developed some hardy strains of wheat and have overtaken the US in grain exports.

Anyway this is what I know.

No doubt you feel the same tender regard for all the blacks unable to profit so greatly from the myriad benefits of slavery

It is not what I feel. Social scientists have found that women were happier before feminism.

Trying to change the subject doesn't change the facts.

And I just heard from official sources that Trump's immigration ban is a farce. The only people blocked from coming in are those applying outside the US for a green card - as if that happens a lot... All those I know applying for green cards are already in the US working here. I know dozens (because they work for me) of offshore workers and not one has applied for a green card offshore; they get visas to come here first and then apply from here. I'm sure that some, somewhere, in some circumstance, apply for a green card from offshore and don't get here until it's approved, 18 years later, but it's very rare.

Trump's order doesn't stop any H1Bs from coming into the US. It doesn't stop those in the US, who don't have to go to an embassy to apply, from applying for a green-card.

It's a lie from Trump. He started with a good plan but, by the time it got to him for signature, his deep-state, corporate, advisors had stripped it of any meaning and he went along with it.

The lie, the dishonesty, is almost enough to make me vote against him, if it didn't mean Mrs. Biden as president.

Let her. I don't care much for her philosophy, anyway.

The Left has done much to harm human well being in many ways. But feminism is one of the worst. Feminists are dismayed by the fact STEM is utterly dominated by men. So they try to steer girls into STEM fields with dismal results. The girls drop out of STEM programs and the women quit STEM jobs, their lives, if not quite ruined, distorted by these futile attempts.

The Left have this religious belief in equality completely at odds with biology and human nature.

Well in Africa the people who are revolting... not protesting.... revolting are those without food (there's a difference between a protest and a riot)

So true that past culture in regards to the roles of men and women was family centric instead of self realization.

Different cultural values. Superior imo given women were free to choose and chose the traditional route .

My mom hated when she had to work to make ends meet.

Most women I know with kids would rather be home . They work not bbecause they are looking for fulfillment but purely economic reasons . That is the nitty gritty of the ssituation in much of America

It has been said that its a mans world at least this was said in the past. But the women even back then ran the show , off to the side but powerful .

Women have always lorded over man with some being outright nags. .Many are harder than a diamond and brutal . If they were ever oppressed you can bet your arse they wanted it!

    Lol

Women are no good at STEM? Yeh, you're right, Marie Curie and Jocelyn Bell would have been so much happier as homemakers. I'd go on with names but I'm beginning to think your bridge must be lonely.

Well interesting that that is how things are in the US. We changed things in the UK simply by good teaching practice. Now boys are crying because girls get all the tops marks in these kind of subjects as well as others. I think I can see why you do not like girls having equal rights.

    Right! The male scientists!

I have nothing against those who choose to work at home as primary caregivers. It's not an easy job, despite the stereotype housewife sitting around, watching soap operas and eating bon bons. I know that's bee ess, and caregivers have my admiration and respect.

But those of us who wanted more felt absolutely trapped because we had been told, over and over again, what our lives were supposed to be. If that wasn't a majority of women, the feminist movement never would have happened.

The scientists probably base their "happiness meter" of then compared to now on how many women who were already wives and mothers in the 50s expressed content with their lot. It was easier than having a career, and going along to get along was easier than bitching with the other women in neighborhood sewing circle. Plus, women didn't have the money worries as much as they do now ... the economy worked much better then, the middle class had power.

It could be that my role models were different, too, starting with my own mother who, as soon as my younger brother started school, ditched the sewing circle for a job in retail, not because that was her ambition and not because we needed the money, but because she needed the stimulation of frequent conversation with other adults who could discuss something besides the PTA and the price of a loaf of bread. We're restless souls, but we're not the only ones.

Free to choose? Really? Just what other avenues in life were open to women then? Are you somehow under the impression that American society in the 50s encouraged girls to go to college? That it told us we could do anything we wanted? Not in my mother's time, and not in mine until my generation forced the issue and demanded to be treated as equals. (Still working on that.)

Sometime in the early 80s, when I was working as a programmer, earning a decent living and raising a child on my own, my father and I had a long heart-to-heart and discussed the fact that if it weren't for what were societal norms, I would have been the one out in the garage with him working on engines (my dad was a construction worker who moonlighted as a racing mechanic) instead of my brothers, neither of whom had the aptitude or temperament for it as I did. Instead, my place was inside, cleaning bathrooms and doing laundry, etc. Does that seem like it was my choice to you? Because at that time, what I wanted more than anything else was to drive race cars. I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of women in my generation who actually managed that. For pity's sake, girls in my high school weren't even allowed to take autoshop!

All kudos to your mom, she seems to have been good at what she chose to do (you seem like a nice, thoughtful person), but I and my mother before me were not allowed to choose what we were actually good at, so please don't debate me about choices.

That statement denies human nature at its core and flies in the face of what we know of biology itself. The denial of equality is the basis of most of the conflict in human society and history. Excellence, achievement and mastery is the heritage of every individual through their own efforts, never the exclusive birthright of any group

Yes, women who were wives and homemakers were content with their lot. There is a reason for this. Human females are the ones who bear children and care for them. They are biologically equipped to do so and human males are not. So evolution equipped them to be happiest when they were doing so.

I think it was Simone de Beauvoir who wrote that feminism was not conceived with the majority of women in mind but for the "talented tenth" if you will. You might not be the only restless souls, but you are decidedly the minority.
